What Should Johnny's Next Blogging Obsession Be? Some Suggest The "Vacant Twins" At 3954, 3950 Bryant Ave. N.

Photos, blog post by John Hoff

After I announced my "What Should Johnny's Next Blogging Obsession Be? Contest," suggestions began coming my way by email, in person, on Facebook, and via anonymous comments submitted to this blog.

Wow, there's a LOT of candidates! I say that's a sign of a healthy blog democracy.

One resident who lives uncomfortably near 3950 and 3954 Bryant Ave. N. has dubbed these side-by-side boarded up houses the "The Vacant Twins" in apparent homage to slumlord Keith Reitman's recently demolished "Blue Twins," the subject of my previous "blogging obsession."

The owners of TJ Waconia now sit in prison but their negative impact on our neighborhood ripples forever out into the universe. At least one of these two houses on Bryant Ave. N. were part of their empire of fraud. Currently...

Readers Lobby For "What Should Johnny's Next Blogging Obsession Be?" Fence At Hawthorn (Sic) Crossings Strip Mall Is Becoming "Perennial Also Ran" In This Contest...

Contributed photo, blog post by John Hoff

Ever since I announced my "What Should Johnny's Next Blogging Obsession Be" contest, discussion has been taking place and suggestions are being made. I heard one Northside resident was going to take pictures of tornado-damaged houses that should have been fixed long ago, still wearing ghostly aqua-colored wraiths of tattered tarps.

And then there's 3203 Logan Ave. North. Plenty to say about THAT one, but participants in the North Talk Facebook forum are still reeling from yesterday's revelations the elderly owner's son is none other than "White Student Union" founder Thomas David, an incredibly controversial character in 1991, now a twice-divorced convicted felon on parole still reliving glory days when he was (so he claims) the valedictorian of Patrick Henry High School.

And then, to put the cherry atop the flaming flambe of neighborhood controversy, somebody set fire to 3203 Logan Ave. N. a couple nights ago and arson investigators are reportedly looking into it. (The fire was put out quickly, almost as though somebody who cared about the property was right there to call after the fire....hmmmmm...readers can do the freaking math)

In light of all that, once bent up little fence at the Hawthorn (sic) Crossing strip mall may seem a bit anti-climactic. However, as the poet said, "Good fences make good neighbors." On this basis, Hawthorn Crossings hasn't...

In Case Anybody Cares, 3515 Girard Ave. N. Was Recently Shot Up...

Creative stock photo, bullet found in the body of Jesse James, blog post by John Hoff

As much as I like Facebook forums and appreciate their role in Northside neighborhood revitalization, sometimes I read something in a forum and I think, "This information is just going to waste and needs to be preserved in the more visible part of the internet."

Well, a report that somebody shot up 3515 Girard Ave. N. about a week ago is exactly the kind of info that needs to be in the public record...

A couple weeks ago, Jeff Skrenes gave me and my son, Alex, a tour of his new home at 2601 Penn Avenue North, a location that is right in the middle of everything. From all sides of Jeff's property, one can stand and watch the unstoppable, inevitable forces of neighborhood revitalization pushing up against, well...

What Should Johnny Northside's Next Obsessive Blogging Target Be? Maybe 3203 Logan Ave. N.?

Facebook image, used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff blogging from somewhere on the Kansas Turnpike

With Keith Reitman's "blue twins" now demolished, I don't plan to wait for landscaping to be completed or for Jeff Skrenes to post demolition video. Time to move forward.

Time to announce my latest What Should Johnny's Next Obsessive Blogging Project Be? contest.

Let's review the glorious history of these "obsessive blogging project" contests, shall we?

1.) The "butt wall" at Merwin Liquors, fixed, click here.

2.) The ugly "butt glass" at Friedman's Shoe store, fixed, click here. (Some hotly dispute whether blogging about this made any difference. The trend speaks for itself)

3.) Keith Reitman's ugly "blue twins," demolished, click here.

Now I need a new obsessive blogging project...

Hennepin County Jail Roster, July 29, 2012 To August 22, 2012...

Creative stock photo and blog post by John Hoff, blogging from a rest stop in El Dorado, Kansas

I guess we're just short of a month, here, aren't we? Well, I don't care. Sometimes I just feel like publishing the jail roster because I get on a Facebook forum and neighbors are griping about scary thug behavior, about litterbugs and attempted break-ins and that kind of thing. Well, I say, time to balance out the universe a little; time to dish up the arrest records and make somebody's (alleged) law breaking a permanent internet fixture.

So without further ado, I give to you...

Livability Complaints Become A "Walk Down Memory Lane" For One Northsider Living Near FBI Raid House...

Contributed photo, blog post by John Hoff

After I dug up some old 4th Precinct CARE Task Force "livability complaints" in regard to 3851 Emerson Ave. N. in the wake of yesterday's FBI raid, my source of information wrote me a very articulate email about how reading the old complaints was like a "walk down memory lane."

I'm just going to present my source's comments in his/her own words, which are articulate enough as I received them...

Northside Progress Busting Out All Over As Slumlord Keith Reitman's "Blue Twins" Demolished...

Photo by Jeff Skrenes of North By Northside, blog post by John Hoff

Jeff Skrenes of the North by Northside blog was the first to tweet the information (on his NXNS Twitter account) that slumlord Keith Reitman's ugly "blue twins" at 2522 and 2520 Penn Ave. N. were demolished today.

Watch North by Northside blog in the next day or so for video and other information about the demolition.

The ugly "blue twins" were historic buildings which still had some potential until slumlord Keith Reitman neglected them into the landfill. Readers will recall Reitman's "blue twins" were the "winner, winner chicken dinner" of this blog's contest to determine what should Johnny Northside's next obsessive blogging target be.

With the blue twins now reduced to splinters and rubble, I will be announcing a new contest in the near future. Readers and fans are urged to put on your thinking caps in regard to which North Minneapolis livability issue is the most deserving of this blog's highly-focused, creative and critical attention.

"North Minneapolis Crime Watch And Information" Is Now On Facebook...

Photo used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

Pictured above, the grave of Annshalike Hamilton, a horrible North Minneapolis murder that really needs to be solved. Seeking a stock photo for this blog post, I decided to use this image to raise consciousness about this "cold case."

Now for some good news...

There is a Facebook page called North Minneapolis Crime Watch and Information. Here is a link, click here, but it won't do you much good unless you're a Facebook user.

The reader demographic which comes to this blog, over and over, would probably really appreciate this Facebook page. In one sense, it will compete with this blog but it's a form of competition I heartily welcome.

Go there and like, like, like!

Additional Photos, Video Surfaces Of The FBI Raid At 3851 Emerson Ave. N.

YouTube video embed, blog post by John Hoff

A short and shaky video has surfaced of the FBI raid at 3851 Emerson Ave. N. yesterday. While not showing much more than the one original photo that I published, I like to make this additional info public because sometimes a tiny clue will surface as different people with varying perspectives scrutinize these images. Besides, it's a heck of a thing that raids by the FBI are only covered by a neighborhood blogger because such raids are so ridiculously common in our neighborhood. This kind of thing would be on the front page for days if it happened in, say, some rural county.

Here are additional images of the raid. Click on the images to make them bigger if you want to closely examine them...

In the wake of social media discussions about yesterday's dramatic FBI raid at 3851 Emerson Ave. N., word came in a Facebook forum about another FBI raid that took place "Monday or Tuesday last week" at about 8 am. The target of the raid was reportedly 3454 and 3456 Girard Ave. N., a duplex...

I don't like using the same photo for two blog postings in a row, but today it seems necessary. If you click on the photo above, and look at the rear door of the armored Humvee (the door hanging open to the right of the tree) you can see the letters "FBI."

Good enough for me. That's an FBI raid.

A reader of this blog provided both the photo and further information today, plus a lot of info is freely available on the internet by searching under the address, because the property has been a constant source of concern to the 4th Precinct CARE Task Force for a number of years...

Raid At 3851/3853 Emerson Ave. N. Duplex Appears To Involve FBI...

Contributed photo, blog post by John Hoff

A North Minneapolis resident sent me the photo, above, of a raid at 3851/3853 Emerson Ave. N., a duplex. You can see a big van and what appears to be an armored Humvee parked up on the sidewalk. The resident told me the raid was "FBI" but I haven't been able to verify that.

The building is a homestead owned by Jerlean Davis and Sherry Davis of that same address, click here for City of Minneapolis property info.

A resident of the immediate area pleaded for me to see if any "police contacts" could tell neighbors what is going on.

Total Vindication in "Blogosphere Trial Of The Century," Here Is Link To The Appeals Court Ruling In Moore v. Hoff...

Creative stock photo, blog post by John Hoff

As announced here on Johnny Northside hours ago, the Minnesota State Court of Appeals has issued a ruling which is a complete and total vindication of this blog in the "Blogosphere Trial of the Century." There will be no new trial and, furthermore, this is a published case so it will be precedent.

For those who want to read the actual court opinion, here is a link, click here.

A great deal of mainstream media coverage is expected. Watch for...

Complete And Total Victory Today In "Blogger Trial Of The Century," Jerry Moore v. Johnny Northside...

Contributed photo, xoxo, blog post by John Hoff

We won. No remand back to lower court, no new trial, just complete and total victory. In fact, the opinion was PUBLISHED and so it will be in the books as something that can be cited as precedent in future situations that may arise when bloggers make truthful statements and, as a result, as one example, somebody who is involved in a mortgage fraud at 1564 Hillside Ave. N. loses his job at the University of Minnesota doing research involving mortgages.

More details and a link to the actual document to follow in a future blog posting.

Melvin Lee Anderson, Charged With Fleeing Police In A Motor Vehicle, Released On $20,000 Bail To His Non-Existent Address...

Creative stock photo, blog post by John Hoff

Looking through the Hennepin County jail roster, as I so often do, what first catches my interest is a zip code in the 55411 or the 55412. Then I look at the address and the criminal charges. If it's juicy, it's something I might write about.

Usually, fleeing police in a motor vehicle (allegedly) is juicy. Naturally, something I want to know is "does this person's address correspond to one of my favorite slumlords?" So I'm going to check the online property records.

Hmmmm, I thought, looking at the address for Melvin Lee Anderson, (DOB 9/12/83) I've never heard of a "Long Avenue North" in North Minneapolis...

Controversy In 59B State Rep DFL Primary! Terra Cole Versus Raymond Dehn! Johnny Northside Blog Calls For Public Examination Of The Voting Rosters!

Creative stock photo and blog post by John Hoff

In the hotly contested DFL primary in 59B, these are what appear to be the results of yesterday's vote:

RAYMOND DEHN 876 37.12%
IAN L ALEXANDER 627 26.57%
TERRA COLE 857 36.31%

But on the North Talk Facebook forum there is a livid discussion about dirty campaign tricks used by the Raymond Dehn camp, click here for documentation. Word is Terra Cole has not conceded, but this is not confirmed and could change by morning. Given the margin of victory, there is no automatic recount. Any recount would have to be paid for by a losing campaign and these things don't come cheaply.

Considering the dirty tricks that CAN be seen, this blogger wonders aloud about dirty tricks that CAN NOT be seen. Therefore...

A "Jail Roster Nuggets" Follow Up On Shawn Lee Jackson, Convicted Robber And Burglar...

MN DOC mugshot, therefore public domain, blog post by John Hoff

Shawn Lee Jackson had far less than 15 minutes of fame on this blog, mentioned in a single paragraph along with half a dozen other alleged criminals, as follows:

Shawn Lee Jackson, DOB 3/7/89, is formally charged with burglary and sits in jail with a $60,000 bail. His address, according to the jail roster, is 3102 Fremont Ave. N. This is the same address listed by predatory offender Jamal Lee Brown, mentioned in a previous jailhouse nugget blog posting, click here.

This brief mention of Shawn Lee Jackson caused one reader (apparently not a regular reader of this blog) to send me a brief email, which I summarized and added as a comment to the same blog post, as follows:

Received info today from a reader saying "Shawn Lee Jackson" came into his house, uninvited, while "my wife and I were watching a movie" and "he now gets to chill up in St. Cloud. Keep up the good work."

The reader also added the following:

His girlfriend was driving the get a way car. She is Jessica Bennette Brown. She is on the Hennepin County Ten most wanted list.....Captured now."

Also noted that if she pleads not guilty, her case might be next week.

Looking For Clues About "Ethel Buckingham," Girlfriend Of Shooting Victim Kalvin White...

Facebook photo, Kalvin White, used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

According to an article in the STar Tribune, Ethel Buckingham was the girlfriend of North Minneapolis shooting victim Kalvin White, and the last person to see him alive...assuming he was still alive when she found him on her porch on the 3100 block of Dupont Avenue North with a gunshot wound. Buckingham tried to give him CPR until the police arrived. She was quoted as saying, "He didn't do anything but go to school and do his music." The STrib, however, dug up Kalvin White's criminal record of stealing from a purse, simple robbery and possessing a gun.

Looking at the state online court records system, MNCIS, there is only one Ethel Buckingham listed. Kalvin White was 24, and this Ethel Buckingham I've turned up was born January 18, 1983 so she's 29. OK, so they're about the right age to be dating each other. She's a bit older than him, but whatever.

The most important clue that MNCIS has PROBABLY turned up the right Ethel Buckingham is the fact the "MNCIS Ethel Buckingham" lives in the 55411 zip code. And then there's the criminal record, so it appears Ethel and Kalvin would have had that in common...

Jill Clark's Advocate Diana Longrie, What We Know, And A Lot More We Don't...

Facebook image from profile of Diana Longrie, "Diana Longrie for US Congress," used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

This blog has already touched upon "Who Is Diana Longrie," the controversial former Mayor of Maplewood involved in what was been labeled the "Maplewood Meltdown" of that city's municipal government.

Apparently fond of spectacular meltdown situations, Longrie recently stepped into the Jill Clark health and law license disciplinary mess, taking on at least one of Clark's civil cases and, at one point, acting as Clark's advocate in proceedings.

Behind the scenes, one attentive researcher has been forwarding me links, shared below, and also passed along an interesting piece of gossip...

Strange Clothing Color Choices For Kalvin White, Latest North Minneapolis Murder Victim...

In a perfect world, a person could wear any kind of color they liked and that would be just fine. Some dude wants to wear a pink shirt? Hey, it looks GOOD on you. Some young person wants to get all dressed up in red or blue and walk to a corner store in North Minneapolis? Just make sure the clothes are CLEAN. Hey, it's getting cold outside. Better put on your hoodie.

But it's not a perfect world. In fact...

What Facebook Tells Us About Kalvin White, Latest Victim In (Likely) North Minneapolis Gang Violence...

Facebook photo from Kalvin White's Facebook, used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

Kalvin White,  was not a prolific user of Facebook. His last posting was on July 11, when he posted a picture of a black luxury 4-door car by "AT&T social net," so apparently with a cell phone. The photo is small and does not replicate well. The vehicle can be seen in some other photos, however, and appears to have been a source of considerable pride...

Death Of Kalvin White Appears Linked To Unknown Gang Affiliation (CORRECTED POST)

Facebook image, used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

An article in the Star Tribune talks about the "culture of retribution" which claimed the life of 5-year-old Nizzel George, click here.

This blogger thinks there is more going on than tit-for-tat retribution. Looking hard at the affiliations of a number of dead and arrested individuals, it appears there are two sides in a gang war. And Kalvin White, the latest North Minneapolis homicide victim, probably had an affiliation with one of those sides. Note the picture published above, which almost looks like an album cover. Note how a six-pointed star is embedded in the design of the little silver logo.

That ain't because he's Jewish, folks. Six pointed stars are commonly used by gangs upon one side of a great gang divide. Five pointed stars are used by gangs on the OTHER side of the divide, including the "Moes," a name associated with the Almight Black P-Stones, as previously discussed.

So over here on one side, you have "Moes," a name used by Almighty Black P-Stones. Whether these Moes are "genuine P-Stones" associated with the Chicago based gang is an open question, but what does it matter? The bullets are real and some actual or aspirational affiliation with Almighty Black P-Stones ("Moes") is clearly present when somebody like Julian Anderson, age 15, accused in the Nizzel George Murder, goes by the street name "Funny Moe." He didn't pick that name out of a hat.

Therefore let's call one side "Moes."

Over here, on this side, you have...

Well, who do you have? Who are the Moes going to war against?

I'd love to answer that question. Right now, I can see two sides (the "Moe" side) but I can only clearly and confidently determine the self-proclaimed identity of one side.

But based on the use of a 6-pointed star in this image, Kalvin White was does not appear to be linked with the "Moes," who use a 5-pointed star.

A behind-the-scenes researcher sent me...

JNS BLOG EXCLUSIVE: Raid At 2711 Humboldt Ave. N. Reveals Incredible Paper Trail Of Who Is Connected To The Property...

Contributed photo, blog post by John Hoff

Yesterday morning there was a police raid at 2711 Humboldt Ave. N. in Minneapolis, complete with flash bang grenades, a SWAT team, Animal Control and (my personal favorite) a mobile crime lab. This, unfortunately, is not so unusual as our neighborhood struggles to make itself better, with the police on the leading edge of that fight.

What's notable is what the paper trial on the property revealed...

JNS BLOG EDITORIAL: Things Really Are Turning Around In North Minneapolis, I CAN FEEL IT!!!!

Photo, blog post by John Hoff

Three words: VEGAS ROAD TRIP!!!!!!!!!!

I will explain in a moment.

Somebody was asking me, recently, what is up with Level 3 Sex Offender Peter "Spanky Pete" Rickmyer's attempt to serve you with a (baseless and frivolous) lawsuit?

Well, there's things I CAN say, and things I WON'T say, and things I WISH I could say, but here's what I'll ACTUALLY say:

Where's the fun in dodging legal service when the other side isn't even TRYING?

I kind of miss the good ol' days when Spanky Pete wouldn't immediately violate his probation and go to prison if he served a lawsuit without the assistance of a licensed attorney and the permission of the chief judge of Hennepin County District Court. (Licensed attorney being defined as, "Not only holding a law license, for the moment, but not on disability inactive status")

One reason I miss the good old days is because...

Speculation About Why Julian "Funny Moe" Anderson Is Called "Funny Moe"

Creative stock photo, blog post by John Hoff

Julian Anderson, known as "Funny Moe" and 15 years old at that time he allegedly participated in the murder-by-gunfire of 5-year-old Nizzel George, has been revealed by this blog to be the second alleged shooter arrested by authorities, but not yet NAMED by authorities nor, for that matter, any other media source.

Obviously, there's no way "Moe" is a nickname for Julian, or for Anderson. So why is Julian Anderson called "Funny Mo?" Well, considering this kid allegedly...

Jeff Skrenes, who recently purchased a house on Penn Ave. N., and quickly received his "baptism of fire" when a shooting happened between the occupants of two cars on the street outside, recently sent me four photos of the aftermath of the incident.

Nobody was killed and the incident didn't even make "the news," except the version of the news offered up by Johnny Northside Dot Com.

Roger Smithrud Has A Sign, And It's Just As Nice As OTHER Candidates' Signs. Yay! Roger Is Just Like A Real Candidate! Well, Except For That Whole Snowball's Chance In Hell Thing...

Contributed photo, blog post by John Hoff

Roger Smithrud, whose rightful ownership of the title "perennial also ran" is exceeded only by his eerie resemblance to a garden gnome, has a VERY NICE SIGN.

See photo, above.

The appearance of this single sign in North Minneapolis is the first I've heard of Roger Smithrud running for Hennepin County Commissioner District 2. If it's the LAST I hear, though, it wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Looking on Roger Smithrud's website, www.smithrud.com (I bet he didn't have to fight anybody hard for that domain name) we see some of the painful, cringe-inducing reasons Roger will always be an inconsequential ballot ornament and not a viable candidate...

"Intimate Debris Field," A Made Up Tale Of Life In North Minneapolis Prior To The Coming Of Urban Utopia...

Photo by Daniel Field, obtained from Facebook with permission just sort of assumed, but if not, then used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

The following tale is the result of a request by Megan Goodmundson to write a made up story about how the items pictured above ended up on the sidewalk of North Minneapolis resident Daniel Field, and to include certain elements in the plot.

**********************************************************************************

"I likes to come here an' see the chickens," she said, sliding down lower in the big black leather captain's chair of E Dawg's completely restored 1980s Chevy shaggin wagon, all shiny gold on the outside, dark leather and shag on the inside, sound system that could knock birds out of the air.

"What fuckin' chickens you talkin' 'bout, whatchew squawkin' 'bout, girl girl tilt-a-wirl? Everybody ride you, me right beside you..." E Dawg replied. He was replying in rap a lot these days, so when he got in front of a crowd he could spit that shit hard.

Introducing New Penn Ave. N. Resident Jeff Skrenes To "The Hooker Steps" At 2755 Penn Ave. N.

Photo, blog post by John Hoff

Jeff Skrenes, whose numerous neighborhood titles will probably soon require a special blog post that I can link to and skip introductions each time he is mentioned herein, is a new homeowner on Penn Ave. N. Buying that home shows how Jeff Skrenes--who I normally think of as "King of the Geeks"-- has a bit of a gambler streak. But if anybody can turn that area around, it's the Hawthorne Hawkman; part nerd, part swashbuckler.

Naturally, when I visited his home for the first time I wanted to know what problems he was having with Penn Ave. N. hookers...
