2222 4th St N Still Gasping for Air
Guest post by the Hawthorne Hawkman and photo of what residents WANT to see at 2222 4th St N
I attended the Public Safety and Regulatory Services Committee meeting where the fate of 2222 4th St N was brought up. It gets a little confusing, but the demolition was ordered, then that order was stayed when Mahmood Khan entered into an agreement to fix up the structure. We are past the date when he needed to fully comply with that stay, and so the recommendation was to revoke the stay of demolition and proceed to tear down the building.
Khan was able to convince the PS&RS committee to give him at least a little more time. I will get details about what that means, which body within the city council will decide the next steps, and what kind of public input will best help neighborhood goals.
Also, in fairness: this blog reported neighborhood residents' claims that the only way to get from one floor to the next was to exit and re-enter the property. The question was raised in this meeting and a city inspector said that is not the case; that there is an interior stairwell.
Do not click "Read More," but do stay tuned for more details and a Hawkman editorial to follow.)
I have no problem with the property staying, as long as he can live up to his end of the bargain.
ReplyDeleteI ask everyone in the community to drive by the property regularly and report any potential code violations.
If his other properties are any indication of how he rehab homes, we are in for trouble.
