JNS PARODY VIDEO: Al Flowers Must Get Stoned...

Late last night, some friends and I were fooling around with a video camera and musical instruments. We were not taking ourselves too seriously, thank goodness.

(Click here for a disturbing counter-example of what happens when you take yourself too seriously but be warned: you will not get back however many seconds of your life you invest in this video of fringe mayoral candidate William McGaughey doing a political statement set to music)

So, yeah, back to Al Flowers, and his recent pot bust, and the parody song which came out of THAT mess.

This crazy little video of a crazy little song was born from a silly remark I made on this blog. I gloated about how I got to the obvious Dylan reference ("everybody must get stoned") before the "Hawthorne Hawkman," who prides himself on this kind of thing. So, not to be outdone, Hawkman and a buddy ran out and wrote parody lyrics.

I'd better tell you what the lyrics are, because you won't be able to tell from the audio. Actually....

The fact you can hear the outstanding guitar work, and not my voice doing an imitation of Bob Dylan, is probably a really good thing. In this video, "Hawkman" plays my large ring of keys because we lacked a tambourine. Oh, and the video was shot by somebody playing the jambi drum. So it's a little bumpy sometimes.

Here are the lyrics, and you might want to print them and sing along, note by note.

Or not.

Here we go...

They’ll stone you ‘cause you got to let ‘em know
They’ll stone you when they’re stepping on your toes
They’ll stone you when you sue and win three bucks
They’ll stone you and then they’ll say, “Good luck.”
But I would not be so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.

They’ll stone you when you talk about income
They’ll stone you when you call it “medium”
They’ll stone you when you’re trying to make merry
They’ll stone you when they hear you say “liberries.”

But I would not be so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.

They’ll stone you when you try to tell the truth
They’ll stone you when you talk about the youth
They’ll stone you when you wind up in third place
They’ll stone you and they won’t even debate.
But I would not be so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.

They’ll stone you when it’s cold or when it’s hotter
They’ll stone you when you do not pay your water
They’ll stone you with personal attacks
They’ll stone you at Broadway and Colfax
But I would not be so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.

They’ll stone you just because they think they’re greater
They’ll stone you when you want a mediator
They’ll stone you when you interrupt and cuss
They’ll stone you when you bring up stimulus
Or ask about empowerment zones
‘Cause everybody must get stoned.

  5. Too bad William McGaughey (sp?) removed his little YouTube song. Next time he embarrasses himself like that we will have to make our own videotape back up copy.
