William Earl Champion, born February 13, 1962, is in the custody of Hennepin County. This fact has been confirmed by examining the on-line sheriff's roster, click here for a link.
Champion is charged with "Assault/Domestic," and held pending $75,000 bail. He is also charged with "Burglary 1st Degree Assault in person in build/on property" and "domestic assault by strangulation." He was arrested on January 2, 2010.
It is not confirmed whether William Earl Champion is the relative of any prominent state politician with the same surname.

What is the point to this post? Other than the person having that last name, the arrest info is pointless.

ReplyDeleteThat prominent northsiders were buzzing about this doesn't automatically make it newsworthy. Even if the perp is related to our state rep, that doesn't seem to matter much unless Rep. Champion was involved in some way.

Well, the district court website shows that a Willaim Earl Champion, DOB 2/13/1962, has been in considerable trouble with the law for years. Regardless of his relatives, just a sad waste of a life.

There are things being said behind the scenes which I can't yet print. That is one reason I wanted to get the story out there FIRST, because this blog likes to create the trend, not follow it.
ReplyDeleteBut I've done a number of posts about "run of the mill thugs" and this post can easily fall into that category if it doesn't fit any other category.
Vegnation has a valid point. I guess my issue is more that there seems to be an insinuation about the connection to a local politician.
ReplyDeleteThen there's the whole dilemma about exposing such acts and creating a culture where folks know that certain things will be broadcast over the internet vs. allowing offenders who made a mistake to still be productive member of society after paying the price for misdeeds.
I was just saying for the record that if it were my call, I'd have refrained from writing this post. But then again, I'm not hearing the same "behind the scenes" whispers that others are and perhaps once those are out in the open I'll change my stance.
Supposing this guy is a relative of a prominent politician. Unless you are insinuating that the guy has gotten special treatment or been let off in the past. If he is a relation, more like he's an embarrassment to the family that they can do nothing about, like Chief Dolan's sad drug addicted brother. There are actually some families who sigh in relief when they learn that a family member is in jail (better than dead).
