North Minneapolis Woman Maureen Onyelobi Charged In South Minneapolis Murder, May Have Involved Rubbing Out A Witness Over Federal Drug Indictment...

Maureen Onyelobi, a North Minneapolis woman who reportedly lives at 4538 Aldrich Ave. N., is charged in a March 8 shooting in South Minneapolis at 28th and Longfellow Ave. South. Police were called to the area on a report of a shooting and found a male with the initials "A.F." dead of a gunshot wound to the head...

Four discharged cartridge casings were found near the body. Mainstream news reporting establishes the victim is one Anthony Lee Fairbanks.

Finding suspects in the shooting was no great trick for police. The victim's cell phone showed a call to a phone number which family members could identify as a woman known by the street name "Black" (possibly for "black tar" heroin?) who was the victim's drug dealer. More phone records established the phone was located in the area of the shooting at the time of the shooting.

Now here's where the police work gets more tricky and interesting. Police linked "Black" to a woman named Maureen Onyelobi by photo identification, and raided a hotel room where Onyelobi was staying. The cell phone in question was found there. While under arrest, Maureen was observed on video camera trying to hide a very small item which turned out to be the key to a storage locker. In the locker was a safe, and in the safe was the 9 millimeter gun which allegedly killed A.F.

It turns out the victim, A.F., had recently been indicted by the feds for drug charges and, allegedly, Maureen's boyfriend had been talking about the need to "do something" about A.F. Yet more damning evidence links Maureen to a trip to the storage locker to obtain and return the gun (allegedly) and ownership of a van spotted at the scene.

The name "Maureen Onyelobi" turns up somebody in Chicago who was arrested in 2006 on a minor drug charge, click here for that link. The woman arrested in Chicago in March of 2006 was 20 at the time, and our very own Maureen Onyelobi was born 8/4/1985, so she would have been the exact right age to fit the other incident.

(Here insert some kind of caustic commentary about the constant social pattern of dirt bags from Chicago who end up in Minneapolis doing their dirty dirt)

Onyelobi was apparently sitting in jail on a drug related charge when the criminal complaint was filed over the murder.

The address where Onyelobi is listed as a resident on the criminal complaint, 4538 Aldrich Ave. N., is a rental owned by Richard A. and Kathryn A. Berg of 3141 Calhoun Parkway East, Minneapolis. These "cross town" landlords have not been mentioned before on Johnny Northside Dot Com but when "absentees" and "cross towners" turn North Minneapolis housing stock into rentals for god-knows-who, such bloggy notoriety seems inevitable.

Look upon this example, would-be "investors," and do not venture into our neighborhood with your ridiculous dreams of rental property riches.

  2. "Police Beat Posted: Thursday, March 9, 2006 12:00 am"

"2-DeKalb County Sheriff's police stopped a car for speeding at 12:50 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of West Lincoln Highway. Upon further investigation, the driver, Robert Owens, 26, of Chicago, admitted to smoking cannabis and cannabis was also visible in the car. Police placed Owens under arrest for DUI and unlawful possession of cannabis. After a search of the passenger, police also arrested Maureen Onyelobi, 20, of Chicago, for unlawful possession of cannabis."

  6. Yeah, I think you have every right to write it exactly as you have. Especially with your generous use of the word "allegedly." This was an interesting story, nice detective work digging up the details.

  7. I live right near the address in north. The main tenant was a huge pain in the ass who had a dog that caused trouble with other dogs in the area and had dozens of different people living in and out of the house. Around the same time as this arrest everyone seems to have left the house and no one has been seen there since the last couple wks in March.

  8. Wow this is beyond crazy! I grew up with Maureen and her big sister in Chicago. We went to the same elementary and used to study, hang out and make up dances to music like Destiny's Child. Lol those were the days. Her parents were african immigrants, hard working and well off . It seems that after her mother passed from breast cancer Maureen changed. Her sister is well on her way to being a pediatrician, her last year of residence. Maureen gravitated towards a bad crowd. She liked the rough necks, and I guess that's how she met her drugdealing boyfriend. She could have been so much more. I'm so shocked and sad for her. This isn't the girl I knew. She was going to be a lawyer, how ironic! Goes to show you, you could have all the resources in the world, both parents (which many of us don't have) and yet choose to throw your life away. That's satan's deception. He tempts you to do one thing after another and finally that leads to a crossroads where you makea final terrible decision out of ddesperation and only seal your fate. Then he leaves you and accuses you. I pray she wakes up while there's still warm blood in her veins and repents of her sins. She is so much more than some gangster girl. Her mother would have a fit if she was alive to see this..

  11. Too bad the death penalty doesn't exist in this state. What do these losers add to the world? Nothing. And they never will. Deal drugs, steal, murder, live on welfare. They're dead already. I'm glad they found her guilty, and even gladder that A.F. is no more. Too bad Maurice still slithers around. At least he's in a jail cell.
