Blog Post by Jordan North

Federal Judges felt that that Angela Carter was not a flight risk, perhaps because she is caring for her child who underwent a second, reportedly unsuccessful surgery to save her eye. The middle aged, STILL employed school worker and mother may not be a flight risk but is definitely a HUGE risk to the safety of North side residents.....

(I am told) Jacquelyn Burnes disappeared from the very large and splendid home of her parents in Maple Grove to avoid authorities. At this point Federal authorities expect the number of guns purchased by Jacquelyn, using false information, to go up.  Allegedly her boyfriend is being held for the near-shooting incident (with glass flying) of the eight-year-old child.

(Addendum, May 20. JNS, the owner and editor of this blog, inserts the following: Guest author Jordan North asserts the child was grazed by a bullet as well as hit by glass, by which North means this REPORTEDLY happened, since North wasn't there to witness it personally. The word "near-shooting," which was part of editing by JNS, covers "grazing," also. But to be clear, word on the street is that child was grazed. Keep up the good work, Jordan North)

As of last night ,Jacquelyn Burnes was in custody and had her her initial court appearance today on weapons charges. The 29-year-old surrendered to authorities yesterday at the federal courthouse in Minneapolis. She was indicted this week for allegedly buying guns for gang members in the Twin Cities. Federal prosecutors allege one of the three guns she purchased was used in a shooting in a downtown Minneapolis nightclub over the winter.

I was given information from a VERY RELIABLE source on the life of one of these young men. His life started down a horrifying path, at a very early age. Now a school employee and a ex-corrections officer are charged with giving him weapons. My intent is not to gain empathy or sympathy for this alleged gang member but to bring attention to the ROOT cause of some the chaos around us.

Taken from a source's encounter with one of the defendants, as follows:

Facebook photo, used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism.
"Incredibly sad for me, was learning that one of the young men that was connected and arrested, was once a 5-year-old that I used to care for when he raged. I bathed his bruises and cigarette burns, shaved his head when bugs the size of a dime were embedded into his hair. I was the first person to make him pancakes. He was the one whose short life of abuse and neglect brought heavy tears to my eyes as I would fall asleep on the floor next to his bed during his stay for a few months at a crisis shelter, 15 years ago."

My source asks:

"How do we interrupt this cycle, how do we start the healing for those that are products of severe dysfunction and by what means do we measure and apply accountability to these crimes''?

If our only plan is to lock up all these young people, AFTER they have already committed crimes in our community, then we fight and uphill battle. (Keniko Bland was  reportedly arrested for weapons twice this year, so that's not happening, anyway) We would need all the funding from the fancy light rail and the new sports dome, to increase the prison capacity, in my opinion . Yes, law enforcement, Judges and courts need to protect the good people of North Minneapolis and STOP pandering to these folks screaming about profiling.

They need to get it done.....

Perhaps then we can start to focus on all the bruised and burned children.

Hurt people, hurt people.......

  1. JNS blog provides a forum for community members with information and writing skills to report and (to a lesser degree) editorialize about the community. Views expressed are not necessarily those of Johnny Northside, HOWEVER, when I am asked why I allow Jordan North to write on this blog, knowing very well we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things...

THIS is why. She knows what's going on in the community, knows the players, and knows where to find their FACEBOOK PAGES.

    Go, Jordan, Go.

  2. I’m surprised that you don’t see eye to eye on A LOT of things with me. I have written only three posts. Perhaps you should point out A LOT of those things. I don’t want to change the mood or tone of your blog, to something it is not. Perhaps my conservative background isn’t good for your rep.

  3. You are fine. Do what you do. I would say this: just because once upon a time one of these minors was a sad, neglected little boy worthy of our sympathy doesn't mean that NOW he is anything other than a menace to society who needs to be locked up, locked up, locked up for a long, long, long time.

  4. I said nothing that disagrees with your statement. I simply stated perhaps we can be proactive as well as reactive. I see bright, flashing, warning signs when a child is burned and beaten.

  5. Don't we all? But what are we supposed to do about it when that same child grows up to become a dangerous member of society? Are we supposed to keep focusing on would of, could of, should of and keep trying to invoke sympathy for that person? We don't disagree, I just don't focus as much on what you focus on. It's good you're here to emphasize what you emphasize, for it's not MY emphasis. I want no accounts locked away for a long, long time and the fact they were once victims themselves does, well, next to nothing for me.

  6. On another note, the following addendum was added to the text of this article in boldface text.

All that news venues say she might have been hit or grazed with a bullet. They can't even tell. I wish these people had better aim.

  8. I would think that the African-American community would patrol itself better but it doesn't because then they would have to take the blame instead of pointing fingers and making excuses.
I know a lot of people from different backgrounds who got the shit beat out of them growing up and worse and did not blame a goddamn soul.
Fess up or shut up, and these gangster moll's need to visit Shakopee's Women's Prison which is finally erecting a fence just in time, and justifiably so, for these female hoods.

  9. Did you seriously just say you wish they had better aim? I hope your comment is just poorly stated and you don't mean in the instance of this child who (may or may not have been) grazed by a bullet.

  12. Now why the fugg would someone do that to a kid? Cigarette burns?
WTF? He ends up with a thousand yard stare before he reaches the first grade. This kind of shit needs to be reported to an organization that can take action and stop this. This is where the violence problem starts.

  13. I could agree with some of the "thousand yard stare" comment. A lot of the decent, law-abiding people in North Minneapolis have an emphasis on calling 311 and 911 on slum conditions and livability crimes. But maybe what we NEED to do, for any long term good to result, is to keep making reports to social service any time we see the SLIGHTEST evidence that children are being neglected or abused.
