Being the amazing, true-to-life adventures and (very likely) misadventures of a writer who seeks to take his education, activism and seemingly boundless energy to North Minneapolis, (NoMi) to help with a process of turning a rapidly revitalizing neighborhood into something approaching Urban Utopia. Domain Name: Johnny Northside Dot Com
This is a little tribute to my former editor at the Minnesota Daily, Karl Noyes, who convinced me to buy the domain name "JohnnyNorthside.Com" and has been helping me work the technical bugs out of this blog.
One huge bug has been--up until today--the lack of "expandable posts," so the blog would look less "text heavy." From this post forward, you will be able to click "Read More" and continue with the post, instead of having long-ass manifesto length posts which force the reader to "scroll" to the posts which actually interest them.
Unfortunately, due to vexing technical issues which--according to Karl--not even hackers have been able to solve, the words "READ MORE" will appear at the bottom of EVERY post, even when there's nothing more to read. Thus, this post is the first one on this blog where "READ MORE" means there is actually more to read.
Go ahead. Click on "READ MORE" and you'll see.
Karl, who has one parent from the Philippines, has not-quite-but-almost single-handedly stocked a small public library with books, and where do all the books come from?
Dumpsters.
And who totally turned Karl on to dumpster diving in a big way? Well, me of course. But that library project in the Philippines was Karl's own unique spin on the art and science of dumpster diving.
Here is a link to the library project: The Barangay Pepita People's Learning Center.
