HACC Chairman Peter Teachout Gets A Reward For Making A Difference (Photo 1)

Volunteers from Rebuilding Together-Twin Cities have descended on the Teachout residence, working on the recycled brick walkway and other backyard improvements. They are partnered with Home Depot, and pictured here are (left to right) Marleen, (Volunteer Coordinator) Anne-Marie and Kathy.

The way it was explained to me: the volunteers are from Home Depot. The funding is coming from the Northside Home Fund.

Peter Teachout was selected for the free home improvements because of the positive difference he is making in the neighborhood and also because he is of moderate income. However, three lovely children get factored into that equation. You couldn't really call Peter "poor," but he's not rich, either. He's paying his mortgage and pulling himself into the middle class dream...while forced to deal with crack heads, prostitutes and vehicle-torching thugs in his rapidly-improving neighborhood.

Yes, rapidly improving. But much of that improvement can be credited to Peter's neighborhood leadership, and that's why today--to a modest degree--Peter is reaping the reward and receiving the recognition for his efforts. THANKS, HOME DEPOT, YOU ROCK!!!!
