Opposing RNC 2008: These Hands Have "Put Chicken On Layaway" Under Two Republican Administrations
Photo by John Hoff (September 1)
Many protesters arrived via Metro Transit, and while on the bus we had some interesting conversations with other passengers...
One bus rider (obviously cynical about the ability of street demonstrations to have any lasting, meaningful impact on the powers-that-be) said we young, silly protesters would get our butts kicked by the police, we would go to jail, and then we would be forced to pick up paper cups in the street to clean up after the delegate parties.
"That's the plan they have for you all!" he insisted.
He was willing to voice his complaints about the Bush administration, however, saying "Bush said he'd united us and he did...in the unemployment line." He claimed things were so bad under the Bush administration he had to "put chicken on layaway." This rider of the No. 16 bus said, "I want things to change. Yeah, I want some turkey and s****."
I knew he didn't want me to take a picture of his face, but I convinced him to let me take "a picture of the hands that have put chicken on layaway under George W. Bush."
Here are those chicken-laying-away hands, above, riding the No. 16 bus in St. Paul, through Frogtown in the direction of the State Capitol Building.
