Near the front of the September 1 anti-war rally was this upside down American flag, signal of distress. Every time I looked around, my eye kept catching this flag.
I wondered what the particular issue was which most distressed the owner of the flag. Today I heard the government took over Freddie Mac and Fannie May, the nation's two big mortgage lenders.

The moron carrying the flag upside down should be slapped, they are a vile form of human waste. Disgusting.
ReplyDeleteGoon, the upside down flag is a traditional signal of distress.
ReplyDeleteEver see that episode of Baa Baa Black Sheep where the captured fliers hoist their flag--under the orders of their Japanese captors--but manage to hoist their unit flag upside down?
It's like that. It's like saying "America is in distress."
It's not like BURNING the flag.
Not a single flag was burned in all this left wing demonstrating. Flying a flag upside down at a protest about burning social issues is rather like...flying it at half mast to mourn, or--dare I say--waving it vigorously at a hockey game!
It is not disrespect for the flag. It is an expressive and--I emphasize, again--TRADITIONAL use of the flag.
Didn't the citizens fly a flag upside down in Red Dawn? You like that movie, I bet.
However, I personally would have to thing long and hard before flying a flag upside down, and I can't think of a circumstance where I would do it. But who knows what happened to that person to make them feel that way?
