3119 4th St. N. Goes Down
After numerous "stays of execution," 3119 4th St. N. finally met its fate in the form of a backhoe on Friday, November 7. As of this moment it is...
A pile of shattered pieces resting in a big basement-sized hole. Here are some images. From top to bottom:
1.) Shortly before demolition, the letters "RIP" (Rest In Piece) appeared on the front of the building. I didn't do it. That's all I'm going to say about THAT.
2.) With 3119 down, "Patty Cake's" house will get a lot more light. Poles are visible for a privacy fence that will be installed by ReBuilding Together once the 3119 demolition site is all filled in and made nicey-nice.
3.) and 4.) The "Stairway To Nowhere."
5.) Claw marks, seemingly from a building smashing movie monster, in the earth near 3119.
6.) The basement wall is visible, and it is a watery blue.
7.) 8.) 9.) 10.) Some odds and ends in the wreckage are identifiable. The top of a stove, seen from its bottom, folded as though it were made of cardboard. Part of a door lock. A plastic Folgers coffee container.
I remember that container, actually, from when I was inside the building securing the building in an attempt to reduce mold spore from escaping. It sloshed. It was filled with...I didn't want to know.
A packet of rat poison.
11.) One small corner of the building is still standing. I'm sure THAT won't last long.
Great work, Neil Armstrong's famous statement - "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" -There is beauty in rubble!
