Word comes from a reliable source in the Jordan Neighborhood that former JACC Executive Director Jerry Moore--who was fired for misconduct, and is currently a plaintiff against the officially-recognized JACC leadership in a lawsuit which might be characterized as "tilting at windmills"--has been denied unemployment benefits. Moore had appealed being denied benefits, as this blog previously reported. This denial is actually an affirmation of the original ruling which denied benefits.
The wording of this recent ruling said...
...Moore "engaged in misconduct by fighting" and the employer "reasonably terminated" Moore. This kind of determination would appear to make any kind of lawsuit by Moore pointless, but maybe he can find an attorney who specializes in pointless lawsuits, hint hint.
Also, this unemployment appeal should not be confused with Moore's recent reported termination from the U of M UROC program.
At this point, I almost feel sorry for Moore. I can't resist wanting to give him free, valuable advice:
JERRY, GET THE HECK OUT OF NORTH MINNEAPOLIS POLITICS. You have become a liability to your friends and allies, and everything you touch turns to poison. Traditionally, when somebody fails in a very public and publicized way, there are a limited spectrum of opportunities to consider from that point. These opportunities are as follows:
First, go to a different geographic area, pick entirely new issues, and reinvent yourself. You can't hide what happened in North Minneapolis, but you could argue it's completely irrelevant to, for example, city politics in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Or...
Second, become a manager trainee for a fast food franchise, or a convenience store.
Selling insurance is another viable route to consider.
Or...
As crazy as it sounds, some kind of military enlistment. For centuries, men whose lives have been wrecked by circumstances beyond their control have found a fresh start in various branches of the armed forces. Plus, Jerry, your hand-to-hand combat skills could use some serious brushing up. I'm just saying.
But, in any case, GET THE HECK OUT OF NORTH MINNEAPOLIS POLITICS.

Is this news? Is this about NoMi? Give Jerry credit for trying to exercise his right to explore unemployment. After all, you seemed to want to make sure he couldn't work for the U by pressuring them, even though there is not one shred of hard evidence that he broke any law and he certainly hasn't been charged for any crime. You must be proud of yourself for that. I guess you just HATE Jerry Moore so much that you feel you have a right to say and do anything to hurt him. Meanwhile, word is all over the place that your lazy ass is too proud to get a real paying job. What a great example of a father you are (we know because you can't stop telling us so), while you allow for people to hide in your comments and write pure hateful garbage about Jerry's personal life. Hate is hate. What's the difference between hate crimes and people like yourself who hate others so much they want to destroy their lives by any means?
ReplyDeleteIf you want to see "one shred of hard evidence" that Jerry broke a law, then look at the criminal complaint in the Larry Maxwell case (linked here by PDF) and read about the $5k Jerry Moore's consulting company managed to get off the seller's side with the fraudulent sale of 1564 Hillside Ave. N. for some kind of work involving "windows."
ReplyDeleteI think that counts as "one shred of hard evidence."
As for the rest of what you say, whatever. One reason I write so much about my son is so the word will get out to divorced fathers about what a great life is possible in NoMi with all the affordable housing. If you want to get your own blog and write about your own kids--whether that would be three different kids by three different mothers or WHATEVER--be my guest.
As for your ridiculous comment about my "lazy ass," the word that's actually out is that I'm a workaholic and, furthermore, I will do any job for money including the most dirty and filthy tasks imaginable.
Don't project your own issues on me. Whoever you are.
U can't collect unemployment from the people if U slap, shove and punch the people.
ReplyDeleteHey first "Anonymous",
ReplyDeleteThis information is news about NoMi -- its about how to get rid of poverty pimpin'. Besides, if I am, as a reader, suppose to give Jerry credit for exploring unemployment, then it is fair game to critize his time employed. And, this story clearly brought out more evidence that Jerry doesn't play well with others in the employment sand box. If the U felt pressured, it probably because they don't want to have someone with such a bad rep representing them -- sort of makes that whole JACC make sense, you know. And incidently, this is evidence that he broke the law (and rightfully fired for fighting or misconduct). He still broke the laws aganist assault even if he wasn't criminally charged. As for the whole hate thing, I don't see you get THAT out of calling people out on their BS. But I think Mr. Northside here wouldn't shame Jerry for getting a job that doesn't involve researching mortgage fraud for a the state (like flippin' burgers). Oh, and the difference between hate crimes and Johnny Northside's blog would be motive, intent, and ahhh, the First Amendment baby.
So, enjoy the Anonymous status.
Yeah, I wouldn't shame Jerry for getting a job flipping burgers. I hear he's got kids to support.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'd want him preparing MY burger, but that's probably an issue unique to me.
He just needs to get out of North Minneapolis politics and stop thinking he can pull some new hustle and get himself another prestigious position working with North Minneapolis issues. There comes a point when you've failed too hard and fallen too far, and you should just GO AWAY.
Don't hate on Johnny for shedding light on the dysfunctional bullshit that is keeping our community down.
ReplyDeleteSince volunteering in the neighborhood for 7 years now, I have realized and often said that each and everyone of us contributes in a different way, some make policy, some organize, some throw parties, some play with and mentor neighborhood kids. It all adds up to a whole.
Some strive to eradicate poverty.
Johnny is just eradicating poverty-PIMPING one JACCass at a time.
He is my hero.
i think that it is important that Jerry's being denied unemployment benefits be on the record, and be public, as all these decisions provide a paper trail that may save future employers, and future neighborhoods, from being conned, and so that he can't continue to pass off all his misdeeds as an unfortunate string of "he said/they said" coincidences, or, worse yet, claim that he has been "victimized" by the neighborhood that he has been bilking of city funds which otherwise would have gone to actual neighborhood programs (not to mention diverting and draining the energy of neighborhood volunteers).
ReplyDeleteI'm going to call upon Bob Dylan in my defense of Johnny Northside:
ReplyDeleteAs some warn victory, some downfall
Private reasons great or small
Can be seen in the eyes of those that call
To make all that should be stopped to crawl
While others say don't hate nothing at all
Except hatred.
Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Made everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It's easy to see without looking too far
That not much
Is really sacred.
While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have
To stand naked.
An' though the rules of the road have been lodged
It's only people's games that you got to dodge
And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.

ReplyDeleteVery convoluted thought process if you ask me. Why isn't this a NOMI issue? I'd say it qualifies as news about NOMI. Doesn't Mr. Moore have a lawsuit pending against residents in Jordan? Please share with us all some of the wonderful contributions Mr Moore has made to NOMI, so we can all be enlightened. Maybe then some would forgive him for nearly running a neighborhood organization (in NOMI) into the ground financially to support his own agenda.
He doesn't care about the northside at all. It was always a means to an end.

How is Jerry Moore a poverty pimp? You might not agree with the amount he was paid or the results of his work, but don't accuse him of stealing from poor people. I think there are plenty of NoMi non-profits with massive budgets that you could expend energy examining whether or not the funders and the intended programs received good value. There are also plenty of people in Jordan who still like Jerry and didn't think the neighborhood was suffering because of one person who just came into his post a few years back. We all know Jordan had numerous issues way before Jerry came there. I don't see the 'Jordan Neighbors' taking any responsibility of their own for allowing the conditions to fester. I guess it's just convenient for some to have scapegoats 24/7 while nothing really changes, or changes at a snails pace. I'd say let's focus on the work we can do ourselves to really make things better, not on how we think someone else failed us. Otherwise, you'll always be unhappy.
ReplyDeleteThe definition of a poverty pimp doesn't involve stealing from poor people, no more than the definition of a standard-issue pimp involves stealing from hookers.
ReplyDeleteThe main definition of a poverty pimp is someone who uses or exploits someone else's suffering for personal gain. Jerry Moore definitely did not do this. Some of you may have missed the numerous community meetings and initiatives that Jerry has been involved with over the years, contributing his time and talent working alongside others in helping understand and improve conditions in North Minneapolis. Jerry may not be perfect and may have made mistakes, and I doubt any of us are perfect either, but it is a fact that he has helped the Northside far more than he has hurt it. A controversy remains a controversy only as long as people feed it, and Jerry's JACC detractors were feeding it almost from the start of his tenure there, looking for and creating trouble instead of working with and helping him. I don't blame him for the things other's say or do. Jerry should fight back and defend himself; I would hope anyone with self respect would. Then, once this legal action is over, it's really time for everyone to move on, and not try to say who can or who can't be a part of future positive endeavors on the Northside. You don't have to agree with my opinions at all, but just know that many feel the same way as I do.
ReplyDeleteLast anonymous state, "You might not agree with the amount he was paid or the results of his work, but don't accuse him of stealing from poor people."
ReplyDeleteThe problem was that he not acheiving results, he paid Todd Barnes 12K for a "comic book" strategic plan, then bought three backberries with JACC's money, two bluetooths. I assume, Ben Myers and Steve Jackson are reaping the rewards from that purchase. He spent the JACC funds at places like, Gabby's, Blondies and the Monte Carlo. He claims "prostate outreach" for this. What kind of outreach is one doing at the time on the receipts (one as late at 2am)? I am sorry, Mr. Hubbard held prostate outreach sessions at the probabtion house for FREE, he did not have to "wine and dine" people to recieve health education. Jerry used JACC's money intended to help poor people as his personal slush fund...if that is not stealing, I am not sure what is. Nevermind the missing equipment that Ben and Jerry keeps "pleading the 5th" on...
I think you need to stop and evaluate the totality of the issue, Jerry is a mean-spirited self serving poverty pimp who sure has managed to pull the wool over our eyes.
Okay, wait a minute.
ReplyDeleteReally, "Then, once this legal action is over, it's really time for everyone to move on, and not try to say who can or who can't be a part of future positive endeavors on the Northside." Did you forget that Jerry is the main person pushing this law suit??? He doesn't even live in Jordan, and he is one of the freakin' plaintiffs. He is suing his former employer because they fired him for fighting. So, correct me if I am mistaken, but he was the one in control of saying this was over before it started. He is in control of how many appeals he files. If poor Jerry doesn't like the heat -- well, he knows what to do -- follow Johnny Northside's advise!!! So, do let me know if you would like some cheese with that "whine" but I for one plan on remembering when Jerry couldn't explain himself in court, and then plead the 5th. Like THAT was responsible to community. Guily is what is really says! He did something wrong and he knows it, which is why I say: "No Cheese for Jerry, Please!!" If he wants people to forgive, then he needs to keep his head low for a LONG time. He's the one that keeps prancing around, getting his hand caught in the cookie jar--violents, threats, mortgage fraud --- that is Jerry's doing.
"Jerry should fight back and defend himself" Well, I would say that is bad advice -- what he needs to do is apologize.
If Jerry wants people to move on, then he should apologize publically (preferrably on YouTube) for slapping, hitting and punching people. He should include an apologize for taking the $5,000 from the dirty mortgage deal on Hillside. He should also apologize for stealing the JACC equipment, and return it. He should apologize to the residents of Jordan for abusing their trust. He should especially apologize to Councilman Don Samuels for disrespecting him, his elder and statesman. He should apologize to UROC for the shame he is going to bring them for not fully disclosing his background. He should apologize on facebook for declearing himself a "rock star" on the northside, when he really is just a CHARLATAN.
This is funny: "but it is a fact that he has helped the Northside far more than he has hurt it." Really, a "fact" -- I say all to the contrary. The fact is Jerry was paid $5,000 on house deal from 1564 Hillside, which was PROVED in court to be a mortgage fraud deal. So, have you seen that house lately Anonymous? Do you know how much THAT house hurts Jordan, NoMi?? That house is one of the gifts from Jerry that he can have back (remember, he was suppose to be looking out for Jordan when THAT deal happened). And if getting $5,000 for window without any experience working with windows ain't pimping, well what Jerry really needs to do is unburden his soul and donate that dirty money to Johnny Northside's blog. Hey, Johnny, you could put the money to improve NoMi, couldn't you???
