Slumlord Phil Kleindl Was Packing Serious Heat...

Stock Photo By John Hoff, Former United Homes Property

A police blotter item reported on the Minneapolis Crime Blog caught the attention of some folks in Hawthorne, due to the proximity of the incident to the Eco Village project and also some concern about exactly which slumlord was going around so heavily armed. It turns out the slumlord in question is none other than...

Phil Kleindl of United Homes.

Here is the blotter summary of the incident.

31ST/4TH STREET 09-207505

SQUAD SAW PROBLEM LANDLORD DRIVING IN THE AREA. OFFICER KNEW DRIVER’S STATUS WAS SUSPENDED. DURING STOP, OFFICER SAW A .45MM LASER SIGHTED HANDGUN ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. AP WAS BOOKED. AP AGAIN VOICED HIS HATE.

I might add I've spoken to Phil many times and Phil always made it widely-known he was packing.

Furthermore, as much as I realize Phil broke the law and perhaps needs to be punished, I would say this: back when the Eco Village was a crime-ridden dystopian ground zero, waaaaaay before the recent dramatic drop in crime to nearly ZERO in that area, some of us felt a wee bit safer when Phil was around. Why?
BECAUSE WE ALL KNEW PHIL WAS PACKING HEAT AND DIDN'T SEEM AFRAID TO USE IT.

But the suspended drivers license thing kind of surprises me.

  1. Speak for yourself, John. But the knowledge that a slumlord was packing heat didn't make ME feel safer.

  2. I'm aware of other residents who did, in fact, feel safer and I was not making the statement merely about myself.

Frankly, though, I'm just relieved it's Kleindl and no OTHER slumlord.

  4. You'd have to be crazy not to carry if you are a landlord in Minneapolis. Especially if you are one that doesn't bother screening tenants.

  5. "Whats good for the goose is good for the gander!"

If this guy is so afraid of his tenants, maybe he should be more careful who he rents to or find a different line of income.

This just validates everyone in the community owning a handgun to protect themselves from the types of people that landlords like Phil rent to.

Maybe it would be a better neighborhood if it had less absentee landlords that felt it was necessary to carry a handgun when they left their bedroom communities to visit these "investments".

  6. Alright all of you gun shy even if it is to protect your own ass types out there i have many views on this.First and foremost it is legal to carry one with a permit. The criminal scumbags will have theirs so if given an option i will definitely pack mine and half-ass hope that someone attempts to threaten my life and i can defend it with all my heart. Second i would like to tell you, anonameass 10:55,crime stretches out further than our community.Whom this guy rents to i have no idea and this is the first time i have heard of him so i will withhold any thoughts on whomever he is.Hey, Mr.Mortgage Geek, just because you don't mind being a possible victim why dont you just do the opposite and hire yourself out as a walking billboard offering classes on how to have no balls and letting the shitbags win at all levels.I have another querie that bugs me....just what the hell is a bedroom community? Why does this word get thrown around when it comes to anyone who happens to possibly have more money than others in society. Is this stereotyping and the type of thought behavior that keeps rearing its two faced head and keeps the pot roiling? Finally, if you do not have the courage to defend yourself or your loved ones you need to back off and shut the hell up!!!

  8. Oh, How Macho!!!

    So, boathead -

How many times have you used your gun so far?
    Do you keep it loaded?
Do you practice a quick draw just in case some hoodlum with another gun sneaks up on you?
Have you given any real thought to what circumstances you might actually use that gun?
Have you considered what the collateral damage might be if you provoke a gun battle?
Maybe you should discuss these usage scenarios with your neighbors since they will most likely be the recipients of your pipedreams.

  11. Oh my! Another anonameass takes one step forward and two steps back.Anonameass 2:31 come on up to the stage and accept your award for blatant presumptuiousness.Do i keep it loaded you ask? No i request real respectfully that the perp gives me ample time to lock and load and that is after i pull the bullets out of my ass and wipe them really clean so my gat wont jam.I will practice my Quickdraw and soon as i perfect my FoghornLeghorn.Circumstances? What the situation calls for the appropriate measures will be taken.I will protect myself and my loved ones with the proper rules of engagement.I am 100% positve that i will not provoke an attack and i am 100% positive that you have no idea what the hell you are talking about since i look to provoke nothing.... except your lame comment about pipedreams....and one can only wonder what the hell is in your pipe!

  12. I love how boat head is so self righteously indignant about anonymous posting yet uses the name "boathead". Why don't you use your real name, boat?

And you really don't seem mentally stable enough to carry a gun, much less have a concealed carry permit. I can't imagine how having a clown with a gun like you in NoMi makes it any safer.

  13. Slumlord Phil Kleindl put all of his houses on the market and moved to Texas.

Now one of his houses (listed as owned by 'United Homes') is going into foreclosure.

First the water was disconnected for non-payment. Then a huge branch fell on the electrical line to the house and pulled the conduit off, so Xcel had to disconnect electrical service too.

Now I'm just waiting to find broken windows and open doors like every other abandoned house in Hawthorne.
