"Hot" Shoe Deals At Two West Broadway Locations...

Contributed photos, blog post by John Hoff

A good citizen in North Minneapolis shared this info with me, after also sharing it with police and public officials. It appears that suspiciously good $5 shoe deals have been popping up on West Broadway. It's not known if the two "street shoe outlets" are related, or a coincidence. However, the shoes are name brand, new shoes NOT used. One can't help but think, "How is name brand footwear sold profitably for so little money? Did these shoes FALL OFF A TRUCK, mob style?"

In one instance, the red hot $5 shoes are being sold from a U-Haul trailer parked near West Broadway and Aldrich Ave. N., near Cub Foods. The license plate of the vehicle towing the trailer is TWL 674.

In the second instance...

...the shoes are being sold under a tent located next to J&H Used Furniture, a notorious "thug store" which has often been mentioned on this blog.

However, on a positive note: it appears J&H Furniture finally fixed their roof. Citizens only had to call 311 like, what? About a dozen times?

  1. It took the tornado and at least 365+ days from the original storm that caused the roof damage to get the roof fixed. But yes, it's fixed and improved. Used to be a flat roof, not it's a peaked roof.

  2. How is it we have the tornado and THEN the roof finally gets fixed? I'd love to know the back story on how, exactly, that roof finally got not only fixed but improved.

  3. Selling counterfeit goods is a different crime, if that's the case. Either way, police and public officials have been notified. If the "hot shoe deal" people are seen again, the notifications will take place again.

What happened to the good ol' days when people bought shoes at Friedman's Shoe Store? Are customers afraid to go inside because the outside is so ugly?

  4. "Counterfeit you idiot?"

Ok then. That means they are STOLEN counterfeit shoes. Even worse. Even more cause for law enforcement's attention.

I don't care what kind of sweat shop you are running, there is no way you can profit of of counterfeit shoes for $5 a pair. There are far too many people that need a cut of that to get those shoes sitting on top of that cardboard box on the corner of Broadway and Aldrich for them to be "not stolen".

Besides, aren't counterfeit designer brands "stolen" by the very definition of "counterfeit"?

So they are sitting on the corner selling stolen, stolen designs. This gets even better, you idiot.

  6. Just getting caught up on your blog Johnny. We have had the same $5.00 shoe sales trucks popping up occasionally at the NW corner of East 37th Street & Cedar Avenue S. I haven't seen them in a few weeks, so I wonder if they moved to the Northside, and just pop around town evading authorities.

  7. There's a woman now on Lowry and (maybe) Knox selling shoes and handbags for the last coupla days.

If having a bbq on county property outside a liquor store on a Saturday night isn't a 911 emergency, why would this be?

This blatant crap is what's driving me nutz around here. I grew up here and have never seen such disrespect for others .... walking down the middle of the street, cursing like a sailor, at their children, trash everywhere, and thugs out front of the house and/or on the street corners, drive up drug deals -- yeah, I like this one . Feel free to text my address to your homies and park in front of my house waiting for them. Your business deal WILL be interrupted by the 4th precinct, that's for sure.

This is MY home and I can't take it anymore. Two burglaries at my house in a month. Breaking into my car twice in a month, and my old van a couple weeks ago.

I swear, if I ever get my hands on the fuckers who broke into my car ..... last November. It took months to scrape together my $500 deductible and they're still having trouble getting all the right parts to make the car whole again.

It's just not right ... and asshats like Don Allen aren't doing a damn thing about it.

  8. Holy shit people!! get over it! Would you rather have them selling drugs, burgalizing your mother, or selling some damn knockoff sneakers...sheesh!!

  9. @Anon, guess what, they ARE out there selling drugs, burlarizing mothers, shooting people, murdering people, breaking into homes, stealing copper from vacant houses, selling stolen merchandise at inconvenience stores, selling stolen Tbone steaks in the McDonald's parking lot.

We have to set a standard of conduct and acceptable behavior for our community if we want it to be a safe, decent, healthy place to live, work and enjoy life and selling knock of sneakers out of cardboard boxes on the corner of a main corridor is NOT acceptable. The line gets drawn in the sand and we (those of us participating in reporting this kind of illegal activity and trying to instill some higher standards) have drawn the line on the opposite side of "it's okay to sell knock off shoes on the corner".
