It's on the jailhouse roster, plain as the nose on your face. Lekevic Chambers of 3009 Newton Ave. N. is charged with enough stuff to put him away for most of his young life, and the undeniable pattern of the charges points to a drive by shooting in which two people wer killed and one other was injured. Incredibly...
His bail is ONE MILLION DOLLARS.
Chambers' criminal record to date shows only a conviction for driving without a license. The driving incident happened August 25, 2011, the conviction took place January 5 of this year. Then, incredibly, Chambers finds himself in jail and he's hit with a paper raft of charges, as follows:
1/1 ASSAULT MINNEAPOLIS PD PROBABLE CAUSE PROB CAUSE FORMALLY CHARGED $1,000,000

Further info, this blogger hath not.
(NOTE: Blog post wording corrected to make clear there are TWO counts of murder, two counts of felony assault with a dangerous weapon)

This looks like it could be the Knox Ave shooting near 35th Ave on January 31st '12.
ReplyDeleteIt DOES look like that shooting, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteHere, from the Star Tribune On January 30.
--------
Police are searching for a shooter or shooters who wounded three people in what appeared to be a driveby shooting Monday night in north Minneapolis.
The victims, a women and two men, were taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where two were being treated for noncritical injuries and the status of the third was unknown as of 7 p.m., according to Minneapolis police spokesman Sgt. Steve McCarty.
Police were called to the area of 35th and Knox Avenues N. at about 6:30 p.m. on a report of at least 10 shots fired, McCarty said. All three victims were shot outside. Witnesses said they were shot by a person or several people in a black car that then fled the scene.
The victims' identities, as well as further information about who suffered what injuries, were not available, McCarty said.
A witness at the scene said one of the victims was shot in the neck.
No suspects were in custody as of 7:15 p.m., McCarty said.
STAFF REPORT
--------
So it wasn't on the 31st, it was a bit earlier, but it certainly looks like THIS might be the shooting.
Mainstream media nowhere near this story as of today, Easter Sunday. So far this story remains exclusive to Johnny Northside Dot Com.
Here's an excerpt from another article:
ReplyDeleteAll three victims in the Monday's shooting are expected to survive, according to a family member.
----------
The woman, 19-year old Chareese Caldwell has already been released from the hospital. Cousins, Demaron Mix and Michael Mix Jr. remain hospitalized.
The father of one of the men tells KARE 11 the three were targeted, but mistaken for someone else.
----------
So did one of these individuals actually die? Demaron Mix or Michael Mix?
Right now, I can't seem to find an obituary or anything like that to show one of the three individuals shot in the 35th and Knox incident actually died.
ReplyDeletePure speculation- but it could be that there was more than one incident that led to the charges.
ReplyDeleteOne unsolved death by shooting is Terrell Mayes Jr. for which there was a substantial reward.
The charges don't make sense if it's the Mayes shooting unless you can explain it to me differently than I understand it. That kid was struck and killed by one bullet. Nobody else was hit or injured. This list of charges seems to imply a drive by shooting with one killed, and injuries.
ReplyDeleteThere wasn't even a VEHICLE involved in the Mayes shooting, as far as we know.
But when it comes to the Knox and 35th shooting, I don't see any trail of clues in the media that anybody died. I mean, dear god, did one of those victims DIE and nobody in the mainstream media bothered to REPORT it?
I don't know anything more than what's here. Searching turns up nothing.
ReplyDeleteLooks like 2 counts of MURDER-1ST DEGREE - WITH INTENT - WHILE COMMITTING A FELONY
Wouldn't that be two bodies?
IANAL- recent Minnesota Supreme Court case involving drive by shooting into an occupied house. Skip to second paragraph under II for the short version.
http://caselaw.findlaw.com/mn-supreme-court/1590940.html
IANAL- look at Minnesota law for driveby shooting. One can get out of the car and still commit the crime.
"Subd. 1e.Felony; drive-by shooting.
(a) Whoever, while in or having just exited from a motor vehicle, recklessly discharges a firearm at or toward another motor vehicle or a building is guilty of a felony..."

Oh, geez. I'm looking at it and realizing that it's two IDENTICALLY WORDED counts of murder, and then there's, like, two count of assault. Not one murder and two assaults. (The very first assault is the probable cause assault, seems to be redundant, I think we're looking at two counts of assault)
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't get us ANYWHERE. It casts doubt on whether it's Ray'Jon Gomez, UNLESS there's a way to charge one person for TWO counts of murder for ONE murder if he got an accomplice to participate? I'm not sure on that point...
But now I'm starting to think the guy lives in North Minneapolis but the murder(s) was/were elsewhere. I just don't know.
As much as I like getting the jump on the mainstream media, I hope they're ALL OVER THIS very soon so we can figure out what's going on, here.
Trying to contact somebody now.
ReplyDeleteThe only OTHER thing we know is this guy has a court appearance today at 1:30.
Oh, and his BIRTHDAY, which is on the roster but I didn't include it in the posting: 7/12/92
ReplyDeleteJust got the criminal complaint from Hennepin County and writing a blog post now. It's ATTEMPTED murder at 3600 Vincent Ave. N, March 9 of this year.
