Donquarius Copeland, indicted by a grand jury on charges of killing 13-year-old Rayjon Gomez in a drive by shooting, was sitting in the Anoka County Jail on unrelated charges when police investigators connected him (allegedly) with the Gomez murder.
All this time, it appears, Copeland has been in Anoka County. However, yesterday Copeland was transferred to the Hennepin County Jail, according to info found today on the roster.
Copeland lists...
..."NPA" (No Permanent Address) as his home of record. His bail is a zillion billion dollars.
Well, OK, it's $2 million, or possibly $4 million. The figure "$2,000,000 is listed on 2 similar charges, so it's one or the other but AT LEAST 2 million dollars.
There was a hearing today on the murder charges, but I have not been able to access info about how the hearing went. However, I can tell you the charges in Anoka county now appear online.
On February 2, Copeland pled guilty to 2nd Degree Assault With A Dangerous Weapon. He received 5 years supervised probation, and a sentence of 1 year on the Anoka County jail, with credit for 168 days served since 9/2/11. Copeland still owes $285 on this criminal case.
The Anoka County case lists Copeland as living in the 55407 zip code. His attorney in the Assault case was...
Oh my word.
State Representative Bobby Joe Champion.
I did NOT see that one coming.
Unknown if Champion still represents Copeland in the Rayjon Gomez murder case.

ReplyDeleteOh, for god's sake, you two.
ReplyDeleteGo do something productive for society. Pick up some litter, obey a stop sign, SOMETHING.
Holy crap it must take far more effort for you two to spell like that than it would be to get it right. I know it takes me three times longer to figure out what you two anonymous clowns are saying.
ReplyDeleteJohnny adds, in thug voice:
ReplyDeleteAnd shit.
It is simply because you two generic white boys do not know what it's like to be black and the world thinks you're either a crook or a clown. "Black Like Me"; watch it and then read the book.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you referring to? The recent conversation between commenters or the main topic of Donquarius Copeland?
ReplyDeleteHot new Donquarius info coming in a blog post. Stay tuned.

ReplyDeleteShiyat homee, wye yew be thinkin that I be a wite dood?
I can speel gud lik any of muh hom boyz.
Ok, my eyes are about to bleed, I just can't do that anymore. I had planned to write a rather lengthy rant like that.
Anyway...
There's one thing significant about the color of my skin versus the color of your skin (I presume you're dark skinned from what you wrote):
I burn easily. Seriously, I go outside and work in the yard, I get burnt, really bad. Now, perhaps you're able to burn also, forgive my ignorance but have you ever had a really bad sunburn? It sucks. You can't sleep, since the tortured skin on your neck and back is pressing against the sheets. If you don't move it's not as bad, but then you turn in the middle of the night. OW!
You can't take a shower. Well you can, but just wait until you try to wash your hair. OWWWWW!!!
Also, there's nothing generic about me. I pretty much march to my own drummer.
For what it's worth, I don't think you're a crook OR a clown. I think you're caught up in a situation where you feel you have to act (writing style, in this case) in a certain way to get respect.
I assure you that's not the case. I don't care how dark or light your skin is, or if it's green or whatever. I also don't care if you have a tpyo here or there (see what I did there? Heh heh).
All I'm saying is you need to bust out of the mold that you think you need to be in. Write to the best of your ability. Speak to the best of your ability also. It's pretty simple! If you get something wrong, that's ok. Please try. If you're not sure of something, please ask. I for one will nicely tell you which form of your/you're you should use, or whatever. I'm not exactly an English major myself, I'm sure I make plenty of mistakes, but I try!
Best wishes!
Uhmm You Need To Stop Being Violent You Making The violence in north minneapolis worser and you folwell neighbor you to stop talking about ppl cuzz if we talk about you and i will HUNT YOU DOWN FOREVER AND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ReplyDeleteYou're seriously saying that writing about the violence is making the violence "worser?"
ReplyDeleteThat if I and other media stop writing about it, the violence will be, how would you write it?

Graphic remark directed at "Grown Lady" rejected.
ReplyDeleteBlast from the past, I repeat, KNOW, (know?) James Whitmore and learn, learn ,learn... read, read, read, and don't believe the shit that you hear unless you research and truly want the truth.
ReplyDeleteI used to wonder what a word meant and I looked it up and learned the definition of at least three other words which would enhance my wonderment... try it. Be skeptical and question, with tact, everything.
"Inside a white-trimmed blue duplex on Minneapolis's North Side, Catrice Champion sits in a pristinely decorated dining room across from a portrait of her son, a chubby-cheeked boy named Charles Woods-Wilson, better known simply as "Chuckie."
ReplyDelete"I'm thinking this child is the sweetest kid," says Champion. "At the beginning of the day, he was sweet to me. And even at the end of the day, he was sweet to me. But my child was another child when he left the door."
Eight years ago, when he was 17 years old, Chuckie helped start the "DTs," a violent clique still prominent in the city today. On Halloween 2007, Chuckie's street life caught up to him: He was found murdered alongside a friend in a north Minneapolis crack house."

ReplyDeleteI've mentioned Nina Champion on here before, but you hadn't heard of her. She ran a shoplifting ring, had a booster house, and was associated with The City Inc. I'm guessing it's the same family. She was very connected.
ReplyDeleteI looked up Nina Champion in MNCIS right now and nothing came up. Is "Nina" her legal name?
ReplyDeleteWho is Nona Lee Champion?

Nona Champion v. United States
Nona Champion v. United States
Court Description:
Prisoner case - habeas. Claim that counsel was ineffective for failing to object to the pre-sentence investigation report labeling Champion the leader of the conspiracy was properly denied as counsel's actions could not have prejudiced her since her own testimony at sentencing was sufficient to show that she was at the center of the conspiracy;
"the leader of the pack"
I. Champion Champion's plea agreement provides that "[a] 3 level increase is applicable inasmuch as [she] was a manager or supervisor and the criminal activity involved five or more participants and was extensive[.]" However, the plea agreement also provides that Champion is "free to argue that a 2 level increase is applicable." The PIR recommended applying a four-level enhancement under U.S.S.G. § 3B1.1(a) because Champion "was a leader or organizer of the criminal activity which involved five or more participants or was otherwise extensive." In her sentencing position and at the sentencing hearing, Champion's counsel objected to this calculation, arguing that only a two-level enhancement under § 3B1.1(c) is appropriate. The district court overruled the objection and applied the four-level enhancement, calling Champion "the leader of the pack.
In her testimony at the plea hearing, Champion stated facts sufficient to support the district court's finding that she was a leader of the conspiracy. Champion described how (1) the illegal scheme worked, (2) a co-conspirator would steal checks from the mail and give them to her, (3) she distributed the counterfeit checks to other co-conspirators to be cashed, and (4) she typically received one third of the proceeds, despite the presence of many other individuals. Champion also said that the conspiracy had (1) at least five participants, (2) a total financial loss that exceeded $400,000, and (3) more than fifty victims. Thus Champion's testimony shows that she was at the center of an extensive conspiracy, and, accordingly, the record contains independent support notwithstanding counsel's failure to object to the PIR for the district court's finding that she was a leader of the conspiracy under § 3B1.1(a).
