Normally, this blog wouldn't venture into Brooklyn Center for a story that was ONLY about Brooklyn Center. Frankly, if all the crime got pushed out of North Minneapolis and into Brooklyn Center, it wouldn't bother me a bit, and I probably wouldn't go chasing after to report upon it.
Instead, I'd be reporting on stuff like "Ice Cream Social Fundraiser For New North Minneapolis Historical Society" and "Art Opening At Hot West Broadway Restaurant" and other stories I can, at present, only fantasize about. Is my tone cold and sarcastic? I blame it all on the war, for making me hard inside where once I was soft and sensitive...
But on one of the increasingly popular North Minneapolis FB pages, some North Minneapolis neighbors were talking excitedly about the death of Dontaylo Wright, who was walking down the middle of the street with (reportedly) a scoped rifle. Three times he was ordered by police to drop the rifle, three times he did not respond, and now he's dead.
Notably missing from the public discourse is this man's criminal record. Because the story is hot, because this information is notably missing from public discourse, I will provide it.
Here is the rap sheet.

Pleaded not guilty, then changed his plea. Got one year adult probation, from 3/28/2012 until 3/28/2103. So this guy was on probation when he was shot for carrying a rifle. I doubt if carrying a rifle was one of those things he could do on probation.
There was an instance of failing to appear at a hearing, which caused his bond to be forfeited. The bond was "ordered applied to fine and refund."

Guilty on the liquor charge, the lurking was dismissed. Once again, cash bond ordered applied to fine and refund. I've actually never seen this before on MNCIS, and here I see it twice with one guy's cases.
It's a shame he's dead. I'm very glad that through the bravery and skill of the police, he didn't get any rounds off. This could very well be the only time I write this, but Good Bless The Brooklyn Center Police Department.

Ah, best not wander into the ice cream social land. That's my territory.
ReplyDeleteI did find the facebook discussion interesting. It's too bad that half of the conversation was deleted and I look like a dbag.
No, I think that Jeff's comment about posts being deleted gives context for what seem unconnected remarks. And I think you should go back to that discussion and note that stuff is missing and makes your remarks look out of context.
ReplyDeleteWhy is the ice cream social YOUR territory? I don't follow.
ReplyDeleteSince he was walking down the middle of 53rd he was technically in Brooklyn Center AND North Minneapolis, the Brooklyn Center Police simply responded to the call. (From Mr. Mike "technicality" Kacer who was too lazy to log in to post from his phone)
ReplyDeleteYou're not kidding?
ReplyDeleteThen it's MY TURF and I CLAIM THIS STORY AND ALL ITS RICHES FOR THE JOHNNY NORTHSIDE BLOG.
You had a soft and sensitive spot inside you before the war???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDelete:-)
See, this is why people need to use the phrase "sarcasm font." To avoid this kind of confusion.
ReplyDeleteDontaylo should have layed low and he would still be Wright. Dan is simply trying to claim population control in ice cream social land, while Johnny wants to be king of anti- social land. Hats off to Hoff and Hansen and white guys named Manson. Dan, you are a douchebag, and John is the reason for infanticide. What the hell is a sarcasm font?? :.} Boathead is a reject from an acid testing labratory who failed in his attempt at normalcy after women were given the vote, sorry old bastard. Top that. Sincerely, Meathead. (scary, ain't it?)
ReplyDeleteHaha, sorry John. I was being sarcastic. I'll allow you to blog about the old folks home and the ice cream socials :)
ReplyDelete"I'm very glad that through the bravery and skill of the police, he didn't get any rounds off. This could very well be the only time I write this, but Good Bless The Brooklyn Center Police Department."
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, their was never any rounds to begin with, clearly you don't know this person your worrying about because if you did, you would know he didn't have intentions on shooting anybody or anything, it wouldv'e been done if that was the case, believe that. & secondly, you don't have any business writing this blog it was pointless, negative & should not have been the "only" time you write on this. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE PERIOD. What was you intentions by posting this anyways? What difference does it make? What good did it do? Who are you? Nobody. Stay in your place.
You must really have NO LIFE or BUSINESS. Is that how the "war" left you too? You didn't even know Chickenwang yet your online blogging about his life, he didn't care about you, why do you care so much about him? I can see from your slanderous comments that you can't care any less so why contradict yourself by posting this CRAP? No one cares about his criminal record. (As you can see.) & it doesn't really matter because those records don't define who he was & the cop wouldve shot him regardless just like that boy they killed two hours later FOR NO REASON due to their foolish assumptions. Chickenwang was actually A GREAT PERSON, loving, caring & one of a kind. They weren't FORCED to do anything, they CHOSE to take that route but it's okay & it's now in Gods hands. You call that bravery & skill? No he was SCARED TO DEATH & didn't even attempt to use any other "skills" or "procedures" before they killed him. Are they not trained to prevent these things from happening? I guess not. You can't protect & serve when your trigger happy. You on the other hand, you should really find something positive & productive to do with your time instead of labeling, stereotyping & judging MURDER VICTIMS. I know misery likes company but dang, you don't feel any of these people's pain. & you certainly don't care so stop commenting on things you have NOTHING TO DO WITH. People like you need to be prayed for because I can see from these blogs just how MISERABLE you are. Instead of posting "Good Bless The Brooklyn Center Police Department." you need to be asking God for a blessing because you need help. This malice is ridiculous.
He didn't have ne bullets in the gun u dumb bitch fuck Bcpd
DeleteI BET YOU THOUGHT THIS LITTLE BLOG WAS CUTE BUT GOD DON'T LIKE UGLY.
ReplyDeleteBlessed,
ReplyDeleteIt is hard for me to blame the Police Department here. Most reasonable people won't ignore the instructions of a Police Officer pointing a gun at them. I don't care if what I am doing is illegal or not, if an officer pointing a gun at me tells me to do something, I am going to do it. Whether they were in the right or the wrong can be investigated later. It is a lot easier to deal with problems when you aren't six feet under.
@Blessed: Because there are so many harmless, innocent reasons for a depressed, angry young man to walk down the street, go up to an apartment to get a rife with a scope, and carry it illegally (i.e., not in a case) down the street, and refuse to respond when police tell him repeatedly to put it down. Oh, and then start to raise it an point it at the policeman.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad you don't have any concern for the people "Chickenwang" was planning to murder that day, or the people he didn't even know who his stray bullets would have killed.
The fuckin gun wasnt loaded and he didnt point it at the office he di so dont speak on shit u dont know why would he raise a gun or go kill people an unloaded gun
ReplyDeleteSo, when the police were called, they were told he had an unloaded gun? Even if that were the case, would you believe someone walking down the street had an unloaded gun or would you play it as though it were loaded?
ReplyDeleteThe police did the right thing here. If you don't obey the law you suffer the consequences. Walkind down the middle of the street with a rifle; hmmm.....cop says put it down...and you don't? hmmm....sounds about right to me. I guess a lawyer could claim he is retarded; because he was only a few days of graduating....from his YOUNGER sister....gee...I wonder whose tax dollars paid for his extra years of "education"...I'm glad he went on to use it for the benefit of the community.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously lack intelligence so I wouldn't make jokes about someone else if I were you. Do you have a diploma or perhaps a GED? Do you make $8.00 working at Walmart or maybe Mc Donalds? My guess is you are a trailer park piece of crap who likes to talk trash about other people to make himself feel good. Sorry to break it to you but you are a loser and regardless of what you say about others you will always be a loser.
DeleteTo Anonymous and Johnny,
ReplyDeleteI don't balme you for having an opinion because everyone is entitled to one. However, it is rude, insensitive, and down right heartless for you post the things that I have read. Johnny and anonymous if you have children, as a parent I just want you to think about how you would feel if your son was murdered regardless of the circumstances of the murder. Then think about how you would feel if someone posted negative things about his character afterward. This article did not help anyone in fact it did the opposite. May god have mercy on you and I hope you never feel the pain of losing your son.
I disagree with the comments that this individual was MURDERED. Essentially he was killed during the commission of a crime. (Note the use of the word essentially.) If someone commits armed robbery at a convenience store and is shot by the store owner while committing said crime and is killed, does that mean that the store owner committed MURDER? In my opinion no.
ReplyDeleteThe friends and family may feel sorry for the loss of a loved one.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't mean that they are entitled to rewrite the law.
You say "as a parent I just want you to think about how you would feel if your son was murdered regardless of the circumstances of the murder."
The circumstances of what happened make it very much not a murder. An armed man pointing a weapon at an officer when ignoring instructions to lay it down is not a murder victim.
There are many ways that it might be a tragedy; mental illness, intoxication, perhaps the person was deaf or did not understand the language the officers used. When someone points a weapon at an officer (or any other legally armed citizen not already in the wrong) it might be suicide, or if the weapon is loaded and they pull the trigger, then it might be the officer that is murdered.
To say that given the facts known about this case (gun pointed at officers in the street and disarm command not followed) that Wright was murdered is not going to be believed by most people anywhere. It won't be any different here.
Some comments here might be offensive to the family of D. Wright, but unless there are different facts than what the family says here, this is a justified police shooting. Comments calling a justified shooting murder are offensive to law abiding citizens.
OK that's messed up. So if someone is making 8 bucks an hour at Walmart or McDonalds that makes them stupid or unintelligent? At least they are smart enough to hold down a legitimate job. They have the skills and the ability to get their ass out of bed in the morning and make it to work on time. That's a hell of a lot better than what a lot of people are doing right now.
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of education credentials are you packin' Dr. Anonymous @6:44pm?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous
ReplyDeleteYou talk about facts but you do not know the facts. The weapon was never pointed at anyone. The shooting is still under investigation and the officer involved is still on leave. Whether or not this was a justified police shooting is up to a grand jury. Once the investigation is complete it will go the the County Attorney and then it will go before the Grand Jury. It is now almost 2 months later and the Henn Cty Sheriffs are still investigating. Hmm seems to me that if it was as open and closed as you people like to believe the investigation would not be taking so long. You people are so quick to form an opinion when you do not know what you are talking about. The facts are that in a time span of approximately 3 minutes this officer shot and killed a man. He was the first officer on the scene and murdered this young man even before back up could arrive on the scene, again I mention that the young man did not point the weapon at anyone and was not acting in a threatening manner but seemed to be in a confused state. So to your comment about murder being offensive to law abiding citizens, I say that police officers are not above the law and as a "law abiding citizen" you should know the facts and not just what's in the paper before you go patting someone on the back for taking the life of a human being. What you have done is shown your ignorance! I have an opinion about the officer and I have a lot of the facts but I do not have them all so as a responsible citizen I will keep my oinions to myself until all of the facts are in. To "Johnny" Apparently you think it is appropriate to post this young mans criminal record like it is justification for his death but I will have you note that none of the above charges are violent ones and it's a pity that you didn't think to post some of the positive information about as well or instead. He was a good and loving kid who was trying to make somwething of hmself dispite the obstacles that life dealt him. None of us know what happened that day to trigger his behavior but that is not who he was and it is really a shame that you and the pthers here find pleasure in the loss of life.
I'm citing Northside's law on the last comment.
ReplyDeleteTouche. I will cite Northside's law as well. The cop is a trigger happy murderer who wanted to put a notch on his belt by killing a young black man.
ReplyDeleteThe last commenter clearly didn't understand what Northside's Law is.
ReplyDeleteHere is a link.
http://adventuresofjohnnynorthside.blogspot.com/2012/04/introducing-northsides-law-please.html
In short, by citing alleged "facts" known only to you in an anonymous fashion, the odds these "facts" are actually true is less than 50 percent.
Why is it that some commenters fail to understand that the police SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE TIME to say "Aw geez, hey there fella walking down the street with a RIFLE, is that weapon loaded?" There is no time for conversation when lives are on the line.
ReplyDeleteTo Johnny
ReplyDeleteEvery comment on here is based on alleged "facts". Commenters feel that the shooting was justified based on the "facts" they have seen on tv and in the paper. The odds these "facts" are actually true is less than 50 percent as well.
Not according to Northside's Law, it isn't.
ReplyDeleteThose "facts" in the media are not anonymous. Indeed, because those facts are the work of professional journalists, the odds they are correct is about 99 percent. Given the fact those facts have been published and not corrected after publication, the odds of correctness are even closer to 100 percent but can never achieve 100 percent correctness unless there really is a Day of Judgment.
There may be "additional facts" that are relevant, but that's not the same as saying those facts published by the media--by a number of media--are wrong.
Thank you for playing Northside's Law, however. We have some nice parting gifts including TURTLE WAX.
I play my Northside's Law Card of the Day(tm) and double down with some speculation.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a toxicology report.
That report is not done yet.
You people are wrong like foreal get a life and leave my brother alone. YOu know NOTHING and that wrap sheet dosnt say anything about him beside that he is a normal teenager who made some mistakes it you notice those are for pety theft things like he stole something from a store big deal and drinking under age. wow. get a life and worry about you self let the child rest in peace. && @ who ever said god dont like ugly. God is also the only one to judge, so why are you on here judging someone im sure you know nothing about but what you have read or seen on news. So like a said get a life and leave him alone. He is passed on and deserves to REST IN PEACE becasue weather you like it or not hes up there with God, because thats where he desrved to be from everything good he did do in life not the mistake that unfortunetly took his life. R.I.P Chicken WANG!
ReplyDeleteDear Sister of the young man who died: I am sorry for your loss and your pain. It would be very painful to read some of these things that have been posted. Try to forget about it. I bet your brother would want you to be happy. i agree with you; he is with God and probably trying to ease your pain if he can.
ReplyDeleteChicken Wang was the one who made everyone happy when they were around him, he was probably the happiest guy i ever knew and for all of you criticizing him because of his record like really ? Honestly you didn't know him you don't know how he acted or how he lived his life. The police had no reason to shoot him and no one will ever know what really happened that night besides the officer who shot him. So for everyone don't judge unless you really know someone and speak to them. Rest In Paradise Chickenwang we all love and truely miss you and not a day goes by without you on our mind's. <3
ReplyDelete-The Fickens
Smh I miss nd love u big bro its sad reading what ppl who don't know u wanna speak negative about but that's cuz they don't Kno u .. anybody who u knew u knew u were a loving caring person fuck Brooklyn center they lack on there job REST IN PEACE WANG
ReplyDelete@Johnny Northside--- Let me get this right. You dont normally write about BC but decided to take a slain young man and continue to put blame on him, slander his name and allow people to disrespect him even though none of you were there and honestly do NOT have all the facts. Bottom line is a young man is dead at the hands of a person we pay to serve and protect us. Yes that even includes suspects--educate yourselves and let this family mourn and young man rest in paradise.
ReplyDeleteNow while you are worried about everything that doesnt involve you nor benefit your surroundings how about you take this energy and put it in to your son at the age of 15 cause losing a child regardless of the situation is a horrible and heart breaking situation. Believe me I know. Dontaylo was like a son to me. He was a wonderful young man, didnt like to see another sad and would go out of his way to brighten your day. I love you Dontaylo and promise to keep ignorance from following you. Rest well baby boi! 434
I am Dontaylo's mother and I respectfully ask you to remove this entire post. My son was a good person regardless of the circumstances of his death. FYI - After reading the entire investigation report and speaking to the Brooklyn Center Police Chief and Commander I can state as a fact, that the rifle was not loaded and he did not have any ammunition for the rifle on him or in his home.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Vanesha Wright
I do not remove blog posts. Ever. For any reason. Go tell the Star Tribune to take down THEIR stories, will you? When they take the stories down I will consider it...
ReplyDeleteAnd then say no.
Furthermore, this blog did not in any way state Dontaylo had ammunition.
AND furthermore, police can't look into a firearm with x-ray vision to determine if it has bullets. This "no bullets" argument carries no weight at all.
You can say no to taking the blog down to his mother, without being a rude, smartass. You seem very bitter sometimes. I wonder what made you so jaded.
ReplyDeleteHe was expecting to walk down the street and not be noticed? Maybe if you had taught him not to walk around loaded with an unloaded rifle he would still be here? A classic example of transference of blame well documented.
ReplyDeleteThat would actually be an anonymous commenter CLAIMING to be his mother. No proof it's actually his mother.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as another commenter pointed out so well, this is an obvious matter of transference. This guy simply wasn't raised right. If he was simply mentally ill (versus high as a freaking kite) there shouldn't have been guns around him, unloaded or otherwise. One way or another, his family failed him and failed the society around them, leaving the dirty and dangerous work of dealing with this situation to our brave police.
And I'm not going to soft peddle my reply. What the "mother" should be saying, if it's the mother at all, should be along the lines of an APOLOGY to society, rather than trying to apportion any amount of blame to, for god's sake, a neighborhood blog reporting facts.
I was not placing blame on anyone and the purpose of me telling you about ammunition was not to justfiy anything but to let you know that no one was in danger of being hurt by my son. I was simply asking you to remove it. Now since you want to be a rude ignorant asshole I hope one of these people you find pleasure in putting on blast blows your fuvking head off one day and for the rest of you fucks suck a sick dick and choke on it.
ReplyDelete
