My Personal Favorite Photo From FB Profile Of "Da Trend Setter," A Thug Posing By Curbside Memorial BRANDISHING A WEAPON...

Photo from FB profile of Da Trend Setter, used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

I already wrote a long piece about the interesting treasures I was finding on the FB profiles of people in the social circle of Jaylin Dubose.

Well, I just wanted to share my favorite photo.

Check it out. A thug posing by a curbside memorial...and brandishing A PISTOL.

See, this is ANOTHER reason I'm really opposed to these curbside memorials. They appear to be "rallying points" for an endless cycle of violence-begetting-violence.

  1. I swear to God -- certain people should be restricted from breeding if this is what they produce !! Looks as tho they are making it known they may be next. Oh well, just using up air good citizens could use. Thugs mostly kill thugs - let them slowly eliminate one another. Parasites they are and more than likely will always be !

  2. For a guy who is supposed to be on active duty in the National Guard, you sure have a lot of time to blog.
Guess what you do for the military isn't very important.
And the way you're deliberately riling up the natives, makes one wonder about your future plans?
Only an idiot would smoke while filling his gas tank. Unless...

  3. I have never served in the military. From what I have gathered by talking to those who have served active duty in a war zone, you are either very very busy or bored out of your skull. I am glad Johnny is showing he is idle. This means one, he is safe for the moment and two, we get to read his musings.

  4. To Anonymous,

I am stateside now and no longer in Afghanistan. But what you describe is, in fact, the case in a war zone. Unfortunately, not having very long or frequent access to the internet was another fact of life, at least after December 23 when I was at a more primitive outpost (COP Arian) than the first place I was at (FOB Gardez)

  5. I say thank you to Johnny for all he does with his information ! I am sure the negative comments come from those that should not breed. Let us just say Johnny Northside cares enough about his city to take the time to inform. We can call it the WAR IN NORTH MPLS. OF IDIOT THUGS FROM STUPID BREEDING MACHINES !! Thank you for all you do Johnny - at least you have a brain and use it to make it a better place for those that also have brains and common sense !!

  6. I think your remarks go too far, but since I'm allowing a pretty intense, free flowing discussion here, I'm publishing your comment.

Who, specifically, should not "breed" and what are your public policy suggestions?

  7. I know your are in the USA. Sent home by the National Guard. Just saying you are still on active duty doing nothing to serve our country but blogging. What a waste of our valuable resources. Why should we be providing you welfare when other troops are risking life and limb for our country.

  8. For the record...sent home with the rest of my unit after successfully completing deployment, making rank, and getting medals.

I will be out soon but then there's all the leave I have built up. Hopefully I will be doing something fun with my kid besides blogging all the time.

  9. No you won't. Instead of doing fun activities with your son like normal people (i.e Camping, fishing, amusement parks, going to the beach/pool, etc.), you will take him around NoMi removing spam signs and picking up trash. Or, he can sit around and watch you blog for an evening of excitement.
Why don't you do him a favor and leave him with his parents in AV, where he can be with his friends and have a fun "normal" summer.

  10. for all of you that keep saying that this is what idiots breed should actually sit Bach and realize that people are humans and make their own choice of how to live their life and decide what they want to make of it. there are some that have no choice but to be in that life due to what their older siblings choose to do based on yea one person making a decision to go after family because they can not get at the one that they are beefing with so sometimes its a chain cycle in some aspects. some are also trying different lifestyles experimenting with that they want to do with their life and its about finding themselfs. its allot of mentors out here and preachers that are many very good ones based on their own life experiences and lifestyles. its just like drug counselors the good ones are the ones that went through addictions therselfs. my point is some may look at gang members in a bad way but they are all young and you never know they may turn out to be someone that does something good in the world later on in life!

  11. I Personally enjoy knowing what is going on in the cities, but what i do not like when you talk bad about people that were murdered... not cool, i no someone recently was at the wrong place at the wrong time and now he is forever gone for no reason... maybe he was changing his life style? but we will never no now. but johnnu northside does keep us more updated then the news does. so bottom line keep up the good work but stop slandering the people who over the stupidity of the dumb fuck who is doing the killings....

  12. I believe the question of who shouldn't breed is a legitimate one given the enormous social costs of the carnage caused by immature social misfits enamored with firearms. I think the solution to this question is much like credit scoring to qualify for a loan. Only those with a sufficiently high reproductive score should be licensed to procreate. The construction of the scoring procedure should be a matter of public policy and protective of basic human liberties (the right to bear children is not protected by the Constitution). Most other productive activities requiring protection for society involve some sort of licensing--why not childbearing and rearing?

  13. Maybe if you help them other then judge them because the cloths they wear or the neighborhood they was sent to with the education giving to them how they look. If you really want to help go to the bored of education help find them jobs to support they family other than stalk Facebook you grown is hell looking at these Lil kids fb that's creepy rather you inform us about the Northside because it isn't as bad people just look at the negative more than what's changing. -Northside kid

    1. Northside Kid, take advantage of a free on line class in English. I really could not understand what you are saying. Your ability to articulate yourself is below that of a toddler. I am sure your teacher does not speak this way. You can also take advantage of The Choice Is Yours program and go to any of a number of schoils. If YOU want to better yourself. And, if you do not want to speak in a way which others in the US can understand you, then you wont have a job. Get with it or get out. Northside Mom

  14. If you don't like wat the fuck goes on in Minneapolis you need to move . You have toooooooo much time on your hands . Investigating shit that has nothing to do with you . You definitely need to mind your own business . You have no right to be posting people information on your blogs , if it was that serious they would put it on the news . stay out of peoples shit and get a life

    ReplyDelete
  15. Which "little kids" are you talking about?

Deshaunta Gomez? Who is on probation for riot, and was involved in a guy's death?

Da Trend Setter? Clearly grown up enough to post a photo like the one depicted.

I could go on, but there's my point. They are not "little kids."

    ReplyDelete
  16. So when a Lil 8 year old child shoots his father is he consider grown?
Or if there in a picture throwing up hand gestures you put a label on them. Some people do it for attention but you blogging about kids well never change there actions. Nor help Northside stop violence like I said if you want to help we need it not no lame blogging. North Side Kid !

  17. "Da Trend Setter" is actually Jamal Terrell Collins, 11/29/1992 (an adult).

    Today he posted on FB:

"imma fall back niggas snitchin, jonny northside on my ass (yikes)
    its all bad
    LMS!!!!! IF TTTRRRRUUUUEEEE"

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thank you, Nice Officer (ha ha) I will look into that guy's record. Even if I can't positively link the name to the profile on FB, his record might be interesting all by itself.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Ok, let me see if I can decipher the thug language

I'm going to lay low for a while, dudes (n***as) are snithching, johnny northside is on my ass (yikes), it's all bad. LMS if true"

Ok, so what does "LMS" mean?

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    ReplyDelete
  20. The urban dictionary.... "lms" can mean two things. 1). Like my status (meaning based on Facebook). 2). Lick my sack, just a tiny bit derogatory and maybe not printable.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Help me understand what you mean for I do not speak thug as well as you, not being a native speaker.

Do you mean "bizness" as in "I am all up in her bizness," therefore you are telling me to get laid?

Or do you mean "bizness" like some other venture, a business or job venture? Some other activity, a paid activity, which is not blogging?

Or did you deliberately mean to imply both meanings by your careful selection of the slang term "bizness?"

Could you, um, como se dice...?

BREAK IT DOWN AND MAKE IT PLAIN? And shit?

  22. See... that's the exact sort of comment that would have been 86'd if I had gotten to it first. Doesn't add a bit of quality to the page and takes up prime "recent comments" real estate.

  23. I am continuing to stick to my thinking of NO BREEDING for certain people. I am always so saddened to read comments from those that cannot begin to make sense. Chances are thugs are thugs and make the choice to be big bad and STUPID. Continue on Johnny - at least you have a brain and use it to try to make a better place for those who do care about their surroundings. Also THANK YOU for serving your country - I know you will not allow to let idiots get you down !! Keep on rocking !!

  24. To Nomi Passenger,

I think the random aspect of whether the comment will get published or deleted depending on who gets to it first gives the blog a circus like atmosphere of fun, fun, fun!

    COSMIC MEAT RAFFLE!!!!

(That phrase is from another blog post)

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Number 57, Come and Git Yer Meat!"

I think you are right about the random comment circus. We should have a Magic 8 Ball widget right neat the post a comment function.

If trolls and thugs would get more creative and put a little effort into telling you off creatively, like say, perhaps in a Shakespearian style, then I'd likely publish it. :-)

  26. This is all so tragic and if one of these guys makes it to 50 years of age, maybe he'll see that too.

A "thug" lifestyle may be exhilarating at age 19 but then what? This "we don't live for this life" thinking is unbelievable--we live in a world-class city with world-class opportunities. Why not take advantage of what is at your fingertips?? The U of MN is one of the largest research universities on the planet and kids from North could attend for a fraction of the cost simply because they live locally. Speaking more philosophically, who is to say there IS anything more beyond "this life?" That's one hell of a wager to make.

Instead these guys are preoccupied with the here-and-now consumption of consumer goods, fighting in some self-constructed fantasy/"game" of desperation or continuing the "beefs" of their parents' generation.

I think of the experiences I've had in my short life and compare that to the idea of never being able to conceive of a life beyond Broadway and Lowry and I feel a confused combination of sadness (for the kids) and disgust (for their parents). My family lived through hard times (like one-bedroom-apartment, Rubbermaid-totes-substituting-for-furniture hard times) but I just kept looking ahead even as classmates dropped out and bombed their brains out with drugs and alcohol. My single mom didn't blow money on booze either, and she sure wasn't spending it on designer clothes for herself or for us. Many of the people fed up with this crappy behavior in NoMi grew up in similar situations so we don't have a lot of overwrought sympathy for those who claim poverty as a legitimate excuse for delinquency.

The pleas from some of these commenters for help rather than judgment from the online community need to be redirected to the parents. We as neighbors can judge because, believe it or not kids, your actions affect all of us. You know how hard it is to get a contractor to give an estimate on home repairs when the house is located in Jordan??? 8 of 10 won't return the call and at least one will give some spiel about how dangerous visiting your home is. Like you care now, but maybe, just maybe, you'll actually pursue a normal life and then things like "safety" will actually matter to you as well.

These parents need to step up and take responsibility for their kids' lives instead of filling their heads with BS about wasting money on booze, clothes, drugs and secondarily teaching them that violent confrontation is the only appropriate way of dealing with life.

  27. Awful lot of "new" names showing up here as commenters. Funny how some of these people created profiles within the last couple of months, and only follow JNS and his friends. Guess JNS must need to make up profiles so it looks like people actually read and comment on his blog.

  28. OMG - what a stupid comment !! Use your common sense if you have any !

  29. Anon 10:47, paranoid much? I know a lot of people read this blog and have for over a year but unlike the basement trolls that stalk the WCCO and KSTP discussion forums, they don't feel the impulsive need to comment every day on every story. If you don't have anything better to do than monitor profiles, you need a hobby intervention.

  30. There is a great deal of pathos reflected here in the inability of some participants to communicate in the culturally dominate language rather than thug argot. I suppose this is a condemnation of our educational institutions, and the underclass sub-cultural attitude of indifference towards, if not glorification of, illiteracy. Now there are so many more opportunities for exercising our cherished political freedom of personal expression, such as the forum provided here by JNS, but the unintelligible contributions of the illiterate are only so much indecipherable graffiti. It is a pity that they can't meaningfully participate.
