Two "Dog Held For Ransom" Incidents In North Minneapolis In Last Couple Months...

Photo of "Elle" from Facebook, blog post by John Hoff

In mid-July, a resident of North Minneapolis named Shar'an (hereinafter "Sharan") couldn't find her little dog named Elle who was securely locked inside a backyard described as "gated, chained and padlocked."

As fate would have it, this unnerving doggy disappearance happened 10 minutes before an important job presentation. Instead of missing her job presentation, Sharan The Solid Citizen soldiered on, did the presentation as well as she could while upset, and then returned home to search for her dog...

Sharan covered an area she described as 6 by 8 blocks. She finally found some kids and when she offered them a reward for information leading to the recovery of her dog, the kids admitted their "auntie" had the dog. Sharan paid $100 to get her dog back. The dog did not run off or escape under a fence. Somebody reached into Sharan's yard and took the dog. Sharan, who talked to the police about this incident, says her dog was "kidnapped and held for ransom." I say it was "theft of movable property, a felony."

There was at least one other similar incident in the past couple months. According to Sharan, her neighbor at 28th and James had a small dog named Ginger stolen from his back yard and ransomed in similar fashion. In the case of Ginger, $200 was paid.

There was one other incident where a neighbor named Pat at 27th and Irving had a small pet dog stolen from her yard, never to be seen again.

With recent news coverage about Minneapolis Police lacking the resources to pursue hit-and-run drivers, click here, it's unlikely a "Dognapping Task Force" will be formed anytime soon.

This blogger continues to suggest the solution to many neighborhood problems is the installation of privately controlled video cameras.

  1. The thugs and their children of North are terrorists, plain and simple. It's going to be interesting in this struggling economy to see what happens to all these unemployable pieces of human garbage. I bet they'll just eat the dogs with their Cheetos and orange drink.

  2. Just had some kids from the block do the damn thing. Except they were seen. Although in the "code of silence" that everyone keeps, I did have one neighbor come & tell me. I was actually washing another pet indoors when the theft happened. I am lucky for my dog came back. But these kids need some parents to do their job besides turning a blind eye to the crap-burgers they are raising. I have actually had quite a few things stolen since buying my house up near 26th & Logan. What to do if the parents & police can't control these people?

  3. What to do? You write a detailed first person account and email it to me along with contact info, so I can confirm who you are and that you're trustworthy. You name the names, you name the address, you provide me a photo I can use of the house or the dog or SOMETHING because I always have a photo illustrating each blog post.

And I will use the magic of the internet to rain down the appropriate amount of social shaming on the "crap burgers," as you phrase it.

    1. Sorry, please give me a good address to talk with you to stay under the window breaking, wallet stilling radar. I will point out the thieves. But I require action for those who wish a safe haven for their pets, homes & and anything of value there within!

  9. Sorry for the delay in printing your comments. I have to approve all comments first and I was busy with my kid.

Look, I have no way of knowing if what you're saying is true, and if it's not true then you'd be talking some pretty bad shit about this Ronnie Ward and his brother.

Do you know his real name? Is it Ronald? Do you know his race? About how old he is? How does he wear his hair? Where does he hang out? What is his gang, if he belongs to a gang?

Also, you know the proper procedure for heroic high risk informing" is to contact THE POLICE, not a blogger on vacation with his son. Naturally, I will forward this information to the police but, hey, help me out here. It's not much to go on.
