As much as I like Facebook forums and appreciate their role in Northside neighborhood revitalization, sometimes I read something in a forum and I think, "This information is just going to waste and needs to be preserved in the more visible part of the internet."
Well, a report that somebody shot up 3515 Girard Ave. N. about a week ago is exactly the kind of info that needs to be in the public record...
Reportedly, there were 11 shots detected by a shot spotter device, and also 11 holes in the front door. Mention of the gunshots appears on the 4th Precinct Care Force website, click here, and nails the date down to August 20 at about 1 a.m.
If somebody had been killed at that house, the mainstream media would be all over it. In the absence of the kind of attention something like this DESERVES, it falls to this blogger to dig more deeply.
The owner of the house is listed on Minneapolis City Property Records (which are frequently out of date) as Iserve Servicing of 222 W Las Colinas Blvd, Irving, Texas. The owner is listed as Home Solutions Partners Iii. (Sic) According to information on Zillow, the home sold recently for $16,463. This is not reflected in city property records, which shows the last sale in 2004 at $180,000.
If anybody has further information about 3515 Girard Ave. N., in the next red hot second or even years from now, here's a place to comment...a very PUBLIC place, accessible to search engines and archived deeply in the Googlebot-infested catacombs of the internet; not lost in the ether like the smell of yesterday's gunfire.

WEAP---Carry a Weapon w/out a Permit / False info to Police / Warrant
35XX Girard Ave N Monday 8/20/12 0105hrs 12-262434
Officers were dispatched to the above area on the report of shots fired. Officers noted that the house at this location had multiple bullet holes in the front & spent shell casings in the street. When officers entered the home to check for victims, they located AP1/male, 19 yrs, hiding in the basement near a shotgun. AP1 was the only one in the basement at the time & the shotgun was loaded with 2 rounds—one in the chamber & one in the magazine. AP1 gave an alias name belonging to his brother. AP1 was booked in HCJ for PC Weapons, False info to Police, & a Felony Warrant.
The city took the pit bull that was chained in the yard and partially boarded the house last week.
ReplyDeleteI have been calling 311 about this property for years. Check out the assessments:
http://apps.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/PIApp/SpecialAssessmentsRpt.aspx?Year=All&Action=Show&PIN=36361
And there are delinquent property taxes as well:
https://www16.co.hennepin.mn.us/taxpayments/taxesdue.jsp?pid=0902924120042
The house is not a Homestead, and there is no rental license. In addition, the items listed on the 2007 TISH report have yet to be cleared:

The post-tornado "repairs" to this property are awful. They slapped up some plastic windows and a plastic door on the front porch and patched the vinyl siding with a mismatched piece. There were still broken screens and windows before the recent shooting.
Given all of this, if somebody knows of some way to get the city to take action on this property, I would greatly appreciate the info!
3515 Girard was boarded last Thursday afternoon - it's future depends on what the current title holder does next.
ReplyDeleteThe house was partially boarded. The front porch is open to access. There are broken windows and torn screens that are open to access.
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't understand is why anyone was even allowed to live there with all of the outstanding code issues on the 2007 TISH report. Doesn't "Reinspection Required" mean that an inspection is required after the work is completed? And if the work hasn't been done, wouldn't that make the home uninhabitable as far as the city is concerned? And isn't five years plenty of time to allow the owner to make the repairs?
If the work was done, then it was done without pulling all the necessary permits, which is a whole different issue. If the outside "repairs" are any indication, this property is a safety hazard. The whole situation is simply ridiculous.

In the interest of the public record(also posted on North Talk):
ReplyDelete3515 Girard Ave N, the site of a recent shooting, was partially boarded last week -- as a result of the shooting. Today, the front door is swinging in the wind, and it appears that somebody removed a screen to access a window on the south side. It also looks like a board was removed from inside the front porch to gain access through the partially boarded porch. I called 311 today and was advised that first response would be within five days. Seriously?
Word is neighbors near the property can smell gas and that calls to 311 have not produced any kind of speedy action.
ReplyDeleteA guy was seen pushing a shopping cart full of copper pipes down Girard, according to another witness posting on the North Talk Facebook forum.
"...middle aged man of undetermined race was seen coming out of 3531 Girard with copper pipes. When questioned, he replied "I just found them hanging around and didn't think anyone would mind if I took the board off the window, kicked out the front door and took them"........or something to that effect."
People were making up the gas smell and guy walking down the street with copper. Sometimes, if people around here can't get the proper police response, we say we might see a gun, or smell gass or ... They usually come quicker then.
ReplyDeleteClearly this isn't as big an issue as y'all might think. Which is why they aren't making it a priority! Why would you make up stuff an waste MPD and the cities time?! Sigh. This is very sad.
