Reginald Antwine Haynes didn't die in a shooting on the Northside, but he was a resident of the 1400 block of Dupont Ave. N. according to the Star Tribune. He died in a shooting at Mortimer's Bar in the usual pattern of argument resolved by gunfire, which is a frequent pattern of violence in our city.
What is that mommy's say to children throwing a tantrum? "Use your words?"
One television news station mentioned Haynes' extensive criminal record but wasn't really specific. This blog will be specific...
Here is his rap sheet and what I can find out about the resolution of the charges:
27-CR-02-056643 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 12/21/1998 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed AGGRAVATED ROBBERY FIRST DEGREE ASSAULT IN THE THIRD DEGREE
And so it was Reginald burst on the scene in 1998, with his most serious charges. The robbery charge was dismissed upon a plea of guilty to the assault charge. He had a year sentence hanging over his head but I can't see any evidence he did anything more than 15 days, for which he received credit. The sentence says restitution to victim but, ha!!!!!!!!!!!
The rarity and small amounts of restitution received by victims in this state (in ANY state, I suspect) is a scandal deserving of more journalistic attention and investigation than one small neighborhood blog can provide.
27-CR-03-045975 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 07/07/2003 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed 4TH DEG DWI- ALC .10+ W/IN 2HRS DRIVING DRIVING AFTER SUSPENSION
Convicted on the drinking but the driving after revocation was dismissed. Once again, there was a plea deal.
02-T3-05-010380 X 794803 X 794803 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 04/01/2005 Anoka Moving - Misdemeanor Closed-Physical File Destroyed DISOBEY POST STOP SIGN P (TCIS Amended Charge) NO MN DL M
Stop sign charge was dismissed, he pled guilty to no Minnesota license.
27-CR-05-047601 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 08/08/2005 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed DRUG PARAPHERNALIA/PUB PLACE PROHIB
Guilty. Fined $130 which was forgiven in consideration of two days in jail.
27-CR-06-055796 106626554 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 08/14/2006 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed TRESPASSING
Pled guilty. Conditions of his unsupervised probation included "STAY AWAY FROM PILLSBURY AVE. S."
27-CR-07-025380 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 04/23/2007 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Under Court Jurisdiction Drugs - 2nd Degree - Sale 10 Grams/50 Doses-Amphe/PCP/Halluc. w/in 90-Day Period Attempted Second Degree Possession of Drugs Attempt to Commit - GOC
The sale charge was dismissed, but he plead guilty (is the pattern becoming quite clear) of attempting possession. Looks like he did 35 months in prison with credit for 24 days.
27-CR-07-035542 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 06/01/2007 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Brookdale Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed Traffic-Drivers License-Driving After Revocation
Driving after revocation, GUILTY. This guy just couldn't seem to keep current on a driving license. Heck, even when he died he was WALKING somewhere.
27-CR-10-17346 1070062250 1070062250 1070062250 1070062250 1070062250 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 04/19/2010 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed Driving after revocation Possess marijuana in a motor vehicle, whether driver or owner Parked in no parking zone Failure to produce proof of insurance Seat-Belt Required: Driver
Of all these five charges, he was only convicted of the driving after revocation. Did 90 days. Note this was three years after the prior drug charge, so it looks like he really was gone away in prison for a while.
27-CR-10-27107 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 06/14/2010 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Barnette, Toddrick S. Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed Fleeing a Peace Officer in a motor vehicle Not applicable - GOC Fleeing, other than vehicle Not applicable - GOC
Fleeing? In a motor vehicle? That was a new move. Normally he just got pulled over and they found he didn't have a license. The part about fleeing "other than vehicle" was dismissed. Reginald did 13 months over this charge, officially making him a "two time loser." He did get credit for 26 days.
27-CR-12-20968 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 07/05/2012 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Under Court Jurisdiction TRAFFIC-DRIVERS LICENSE-DRIVING AFTER REVOCATION TRAFFIC REGULATION-UNINSURED VEHICLE- OWNER VIOLATION
Think about it. Who would sell this man auto insurance? Blame it all on society, man, because blaming yourself feels BAD. He had 90 days hanging over his head but only did five. He was convicted on BOTH CHARGES, a break from his previous pattern of managing to make plea bargains.
21-CR-12-1322 HAYNES, REGINALD ANTWINE 09/05/1982 08/02/2012 Douglas Carrott, Ann L. Crim/Traf Mandatory Under Court Jurisdiction Drugs - 5th Degree - Possess Schedule 1,2,3,4 - Not Small Amount Marijuana Not applicable - GOC Traffic-Drivers License-Driving After Revocation Not applicable - GOC Drugs - Possess/Sale Small Amount of Marijuana - No Remuneration Not applicable - GOC Exhibition Driving Not applicable - GOC
This would be the last ride on the justice system merry-go-round. His very last conviction, in a kind of "screw you" to the cruel universe, was for EXHIBITION DRIVING. Also found guilty of driving after revocation but he got the drug charges dismissed.
One last plea bargain. One last wild ride and then...
Into the cold, dark unknown.
The story on Fox 9 airs claims that Haynes somehow, in his last moments, saved the life of a pregnant woman by shoving her aside from the gunfire. JNS blog doesn't take this story as face value, nor does this blog dismiss it out of hand. I would like to see more evidence.
However, the death of Haynes fits so many common patterns seen in other shootings that take place on the Northside or, in this case, simply involve criminally-inclined Northside residents. FIRST, there was a verbal disagreement that ended in gunfire. SECOND, the shooting victim had quite a record and was just as likely to be the victim as the assailant; two peas from the same pod. THIRD, it seems likely that "baby mama drama" may have been involved.
DOES ANY READER HAVE THE EXACT ADDRESS OF HAYNES? JNS blog would love to know what the social pattern was of that house, and my efforts have not yet turned up an exact address.

Never Fail; DaShaunta Gomez arrested for felony weapons possession and held without bail in the Hennepin County Jail.
ReplyDeleteJohnny please tell us why the murder victim criminal record was posted?
ReplyDeletelol your fuckinng dumb hes a southside everybody aint no northsider bcuz they live over north half the ppl you say northsiders from over south everybody live over north hes a southsider though thats why he was told stay away frm pilsbury south as in lake and pilsbury and 24th and pilsbury south
ReplyDeleteWell, be sure to go tell the Star Tribune that. The information comes from them and based on video shot of the family of the shooting victim, it sure looked like North Minneapolis to me. I think this blog and the Star Tribune are right, and the anonymous commenter is wrong.
ReplyDeleteThat's my brother in law-flaws and all. He was a northsider and he was a father/uncle/brother/son/friend. Some ppl are good at some things And bad in other areas. And even though his criminal record depicts him as an unsightly character-he was a talented/comical/fun-loving/creative/caring/resourceful man who was a provider-a teacher-a confidant-a leader to some ppl. His children are wonderful contributions to the world. The women he loved are quality women who have a void in their heart. He was a somebody to a community of ppl. Btw-Reggie worked/paid bills too keep his children off welfare and had an unborn child onthe way so when you ppl are some playing God (judging him) Just know that he met his maker like each of you will get the chance. Bless!
DeleteRest in peace.he was South Side he may have lived north at the time of death but he was raised south side
ReplyDeleteWho cares
ReplyDeleteWow I'm at a lost for words! I don't understand the purpose of your blog! What is it that your trying to do?
ReplyDeleteNow what is your purpose for this blog? I'm a little confused, what is it that your trying to accomplish? If your trying to help clean up North Minneapolis how is this blog going to help assist in doing so? Regardless to what type of crimes he committed during his time on earth he still has family members & loved ones who have been totally disrespected by this blog you have posted! No person is perfect but every person has touched someone in a perfect way! God bless you because you really need it!
ReplyDeleteWow I'm at a lost for words! I don't understand the purpose of your blog! What is it that your trying to do?
ReplyDeleteYou are a punk ass bitch that hides behind you're fucking computer screen seeing what new black person has gotten their life token away from them. I already know you're a white punk bitch who don't shit about shit that goes on in the lives of black folks. Who are you huh? How bout you go to the mother n family and see what they say bout your racist ass. What does a person past have to do with their life getting took? You aint better than the person who pulled the trigger. How bout you and all your white friends go into the community that you talk about and do somethin to change it instead of adding negativity to the problem.
ReplyDeleteThis is so heartbreaking. He was just about to start tilling his 40 acres over south with his mule Bessie.
ReplyDeleteEverything is the past. Everything. Are you seriously suggesting a person's EXTENSIVE criminal record isn't relevant to who they are and how they were living? And do you have any argument other than "oh, it must be racism because this person was black?" Not a minute ago I answered a pissed off comment (allegedly) from a former meth head that I wrote about in 2009. You know what color she was? White. Lily white.
ReplyDeleteI write about people based upon the (alleged) CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER. If you don't have a better argument than "it must be racism" then you don't really have an argument at all.
Jessica, you'd actually be at a "loss" for words. Not a "lost" but a "loss."
ReplyDeleteJessica is his sister You insensitive jack ass
DeleteAlso, learn the difference between "your" versus "you're."
ReplyDelete"Your" is possessive. Like this is YOUR neighborhood.
"You're" is a contraction for "you are," like "I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish."
To the commenter who asked "who cares," well clearly the commenter himself/herself cares enough to read and cares enough to comment.
ReplyDeleteWell Well...Looks like JNS' buddy Ian Alexander won't be helping JNS, now that Yang is taking over for that nitwit Samuels.
ReplyDeleteJohn, we want you to know very clearly that we are going to make sure Yang knows all about you and the "relationship" you have with Samuels. No longer will you have his protection. We're gonna make sure inspections nails your ass. You want to be "the dominant blogger" in NoMi?
Now you're going to pay the price with all the other fuckin slumlords.
Do us all a favor and move to Oklahoma ASAP. And take your racist blog with you.
Wait why not Dixy land pussy ass white boy?
DeleteI can clearly see you're a person seeking any type of attention! No need to entertain your ignorance any longer!
ReplyDeleteNice job using the correct form of "your." Clearly your time spent on this blog has been of value to you.
ReplyDeletegee.. Jessica is a little late to da whizbang...and she seems to be pissed that she has missed soooooo much she is ending the relationship before it begins....WHO CARES? we do! we do! my toilet is calling.
ReplyDeleteI know the person in charge of housing inspection for the city of Minneapolis and she will not harass you, this I promise.
ReplyDeleteSheila will do as she is told, there are no "sacred cows". Hoff is no longer protected by Samuels. You CANNOT promise Hoff is still immune. His time has come. #johnnyslumlord
ReplyDeleteSamuels will have a high level job in the city. He will be hired by the new Mayor, so don't count your chickens.
ReplyDeleteLmfao yeah Jonny Bitchface ass pussy ass punk why are you or why do you feel the need to further kill the dead? Why can't you just let certain shit alone?Well I aint mad at ya pussy ass whiteboy but your day will come for all that shit you write about theese dead people you disrecspectfull white racist bastard I can't for the day your mouth catches up w/your faggit ass I wish harm on you and your entire family.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is garbage. I saw no violent crimes on his record, a bunch of driving and drug crimes. This man never hurt anyone and didn't deserve to be shot to death. It's so easy to sit behind your computer screen and pass down your judgements and assumptions on someone. He was just as likely to have been the victim as the assailant? Weird because I didn't see him shooting back. This is a real person you're talking about. He had a family, children who needed him. YOU have no right to tear apart his history and put it on display as though he had it coming. You're no better than the coward who pulled the trigger that night.
ReplyDeleteDrug crimes and going around armed and likely to kill somebody are like Siamese twins who are wearing the same pants. He was just as likely to be the victim as the assailant in light of his rough background and therefore fits the pattern of the vast majority of North Minneapolis homicide victims.
ReplyDelete
