When Police Pulled Over A Vehicle Near 33rd And Bryant Ave. N., Mark Anthony Devine Pranced Around Outside The Vehicle And Made A Bold Play To Ditch A Loaded .380 Pistol, Allegedly...

When police pulled over Bernard Miles, Jr for not having a front license plate, the car reportedly smelled of marijuana which remains illegal in Minnesota. Police asked Miles to step out of the vehicle but Miles resisted and argued with the officers, like THAT was going to work...

Miles struggled with the officers. Meanwhile, the second defendant (Mark Anthony Devine) got out of the vehicle. While police struggled with Miles, Devine attempted to take a little stroll. This whole time the MVR (motor vehicle record or recording) was passively documenting the scene. So a little while later the officers were able to look at the tape and determine Devine had gone "to the front of the squad where Defendant 1" (Miles) was "initially detained." Devine then picked up an item and walked down the street, then returned to the scene.

Like mountain man trackers of yore, these Minneapolis police followed the trail of footprints in the fresh snowy ground and located a loaded, semi-automatic pistol at the end of Devine's footsteps.

Devine has a juvenile conviction for armed robbery. Miles has a conviction for drug possession and being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Devine reportedly lives at 3019 Colfax Ave. N., a property owned by notorious slumlord Steven F. Meldahl.

So...

So it would appear that while two police officers were struggling with one guy, the other guy was out of the vehicle, loose, and had a loaded gun in his hands!

God bless our brave and understaffed officers of the Fourth Precinct, serving and protecting us while our public officials have failed to provide them with adequate reinforcements. This could have been an incident resulting in the death of two police officers. How many times are police going to "get lucky" like this while the Fourth Precinct remains chronically understaffed?

  4. I think a good place to start would be the city council and the mayor and tell them how concerned we are over this issue. This incident shows what happens when there's not enough cops and they have to act without adequate backup. They could have both been killed.

  5. I do NOT understand how you can say this was about not enough cops in the area. I don’t know anywhere that you would have more than two officers stop one vehicle. All you are doing is adding to the drama and reputation of the area. I have NEVER had to wait for more than a few minutes for a police to respond and they were great. If you want to live in some kind of area over run with police, try NYC. Grow a pair and stop being so afraid.

  6. shut the fuck up. northside has 5 times the cops the rest of the city has. southside ain't got shit. takes 45 minutes to get a cop southside - even if you yell gun!
only way to clean up northside is with the national guard and a bulldozer

  10. Mandatory minimum for "prohibited person in possession" is supposed to be five years, right? Is that five years with no possibility of parole, or did Devine get paroled before the end of the five years? Or did the judge fail to sentence him to those five years? Maybe there should be a website called MNJudgesWhoLetArmedCrimialsRoamFree.com

These judges need to have the spotlight shone on them.

  11. Mark Anthony Devine DOB 6/10/92 was convicted of being a prohibited person in possession in February 2012. http://pa.courts.state.mn.us/CaseDetail.aspx?CaseID=1615125304 Since that's supposed to be five years minimum, how was he on the streets in Jan 2014? Did Judge Tamara Garcia depart from the mandatory sentence? Why was he seemingly eligible for parole? Seems to me that the cops and people of NoMi are as much as risk due to her as to Devine.

  12. In 2012 there were 42 murders in Mpls and 92 total in MN. http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/2013/07/murder_up_26_percent_in_minnesota_between_2011_and_2012_all_violent_crime_increased_slightly.php So Mpls had 46% of all of the state's murders. Not all were in NoMi and not all were by career criminals. Some were just random domestics and love triangles, etc. Still, a big percentage of MN's murders were undoubtedly committed by repeat criminals. Judges and prosecutors who allow soft sentences for "prohibited person in possession" bear a share of the blame and have to be held to account.
