DFL Credentials Committee Reportedly Scrutinizes Lennie Chism's Latest Claim Of Residence...

Photo and blog post by John Hoff

Lennie "The Heckler" Chism managed to get himself a DFL delegate seat in Precinct 5-4 during last Tuesday's caucus. Lennie, who previously claimed to live in a house at Emerson Ave. N. where the circumstances of his residency were beyond highly dubious and doubtful, click here, now claims to live at 1349 Washburn Ave. N. The house is owned by a man named Larry Tucker. Since there is no rental license at the property in question according to the city's website, it would appear Lennie must live there because he is such excellent company.

I went by the house today and knocked on the door to see if...

...Lennie was indeed living there, since I am told by a confidential source there is a State Senate District 58 Credentials Committee investigation under way within the DFL. An older black gentleman with salt and pepper hair and a friendly, dignified demeanor spoke to me through a window near the door.

I asked if Lennie Chism lived there. I was given a one-word answer: Yes.

Hmmm, almost as though it was expected somebody would come by and make inquiries.

I guess we'll see how this plays out, but in the meantime I have to wonder why a candidate like Lennie--who came in dead last in Ward 5, unable to even beat ROGER SMITHRUD, for god's sake--even bothers. If I were Lennie, I'd invest more time into ordering seed catalogs and planting something pretty on my vacant lot come springtime.

  1. Keep up the good work JNS. I would like to see you report on some of the MNGOP goings on in NoMi, if you have the time.

  2. Heh.
    Larry Tucker.
Yet another colorful Northside character. We have no shortage of them.

  3. The usual suspects of the losing northside political camp, people whose names start with Al, Nat, Ken, Jer, Hel, Len, Tra, etc etc... they are up to their usual tricks... something is a-stirring.

My theory is this... they will try to block any DFL endorsement, of say.. state senator, state rep or maybe even be gutsy and try to block a county commish endorsement... then they will quickly 'dump' whatever challengers they seem to be supporting right now.. and they will try to slide in their own candidate. The same candidates that have done poorly, very poorly and EXTREMELY poorly in some of the recent northside elections.

So.. that's my theory and I'm staying tuned for an entertaining campaign season here on JNS blog. 'Cause inquiring minds want to know... in NoMi.

  4. The man that you talked to certainly fits the description of Larry Tucker, especially if he was wearing a bow tie. Larry used to come to WHO meetings, and did express on a couple of occasions his belief that the city should have "saved" Uncle Bill's rather than condemn it. I guess that is his connection to Lennie Chism.

On the other hand, I would be disappointed if it turns out that Larry is engaged in some kind of scheme to defraud the credentials committee. It seems really very unlikely that actually Lennie lives there. Who knows, maybe Lennie is couch surfing at Larry's house, but it's a little hard to see that actually being the case.

Larry could be cantankerous, and he did accuse George and Bev of "gerrymandering" the WHO borders (which follow the city neighborhood boundaries, just as recommended by NRP). However, he always seemed intellectually honest, and independent-minded. For instance, he also said that he had spoken privately with Sherrie Pugh Sullivan and asked her to step down from her position at NRRC for the good of the community.

  5. Can anybody out there in NoMi land tell us what the heck happened at the Credentials meeting this past Saturday?

I'm hearing rumors of a near fist-fight because somebody named Helen was all crazy-upset over something.

Also hearing rumors that some of the committee members tried to push through a vote to give alternates the same voting powers as delegates.. WTF??

What happened - tell us in the 100% anonymous comments section. Inquiring minds want to know... in NoMi.

  6. Given the characters involved, I'd be highly suspicious and ultra-vigilant.

  7. Anyone know what kind of car Lennie drives?

  8. I think Lennie drives either a windowless van or an ice cream truck.

  9. lol - I thought Lennie's car depended on what poor woman he has tricked and scammed at any particular moment.

The question is not what car does Lennie drive, but what car does Lennie's current girlfriend LET him drive?

  12. Lenny probably took a plea and walked away if he's smart. If he didn't he probably just paid a fine or something. Did you check Minnetonka City records? What was he doing out there anyway if he is so into NOMI?

  13. Did anyone expect Lennie to fare well in the election after JNS turned his attack dogs on him?
I don't understand what motivates JNS to continue his assault on people like Lennie?

  14. Anon 5:40pm: Typical...
Lennie as victim- the role he loves to play. Poor Lennie. It wasn't his bombastic personality and one dimensional approach to any complicated issue, or his inability to substantiate his true residence, or his troublesome brushes with the law, or his association with certain blow-hard puppeteers, that lost him the election, No...

    It was JNS's fault.

Poor Lennie is a victim, but only of himself, and of those in whom he trusts.
