Director's Orders Sent on 19 Bashir Moghul Properties!

I spoke with a reliable source at the city of Minneapolis and confirmed that the case against Bshir Moghul is moving forward. Director's orders are being sent out on nineteen of his Minneapolis rental properties.

At first, I was nervous because I had always associated the phrase "director's orders" with demolition. And in terms of property conditions, the majority of Moghul's properties (that are still standing) don't seem to be in need of demolition. In this case, however, the phrase means that...

...he must come into compliance regarding his property taxes. Presumably, the compliance is limited to just the 19 properties in question, although it would be nice if the city of Minneapolis could consider his grand total of nearly $200,000 in delinquent taxes. That is only what has been confirmed, by the way, and includes the Twin Cities Metro, the Superior, WI area, and several places in Indiana. The grand total likely includes other cities and could be much higher. If Moghul does not come into compliance with the director's order regarding the property taxes, he will lose the rental license on these properties.

One thing that has concerned this blog is how the Moghul family transfers property amongst themselves so frequently. We worried that they could make the argument that Fasil, for instance, is not Bashir. And therefore, hey, give the relative a fair shake at managing these properties. If the problem were poor management of tenants, that could indeed be a valid argument.

In this case, however, transferring ownership to another family member - or anyone else - without paying the taxes will do nothing to alleviate the conditions that resulted in the director's order in the first place.

Also, this doesn't mean that Moghul will lose his rental licenses immediately. He still has time to comply and bring his taxes current, and even after a revocation is issued he can still appeal. So even though it may take a while, the conclusion seems rather inevitable.
