Facebook photo from profile of Prince Kibbie, used under First Amendment
Fair Comment and Criticism, also under JNS-blog asserted public safety exception

Prince Kibbie, pictured above in dreadlocks with a finger being pointed directly down at him, has reportedly been shot. It is likely one other person was shot as part of the same incident. JNS blog is seeking more details but this blog posting will describe what I've got so far.
Kibbie was part of a well-publicized musical controversy swirling around a rap album called Da Movement, which included songs celebrating the shooting death of 19 Dipset gang member Tyrone "Ty Crack" Washington at Epic Nightclub...
I first heard of the shooting in the form of an anonymous comment submitted on a current story, as follows:
PRINCE KIBBIE HAS BEEN SHOT just wanted to b the first to tell u haaaaaaaa 1-9 RIP CRACK U ain't gone b the only one wit a head stone my nigga
This blogger looked at the profile of Prince Kibbie but didn't see any commentary. So I looked at the friends of Prince Kibbie and found the following posting on the Facebook page of Ebony Shawta:
worst night ever see y'all laying there changed me so much Prince Kibbie is a very strong person and he's gonna be okay ... Keep praying for Solidfoe Lovehis Squad last thing he was saying is he gone be okay , so he gone be okay too . These guys are so strong and blessed . They gone be okay .. Love y'all !
"Solidfoe Lovehis Squad" originally started a Facebook profile under the name Cortez Blakemore. He hails from Chicago and lists himself as still being a resident of that city. He has images on his Facebook profile from Top Dolla Entertainment, a musical entity whose name frequently appears on the Facebook pages of those associated with the "anti-Ty Crack" side of this controversy.
"Solidfoe" is apparently the individual to the left in this photo:
JNS blog only has the anonymous comment and the Facebook commentary to confirm the reality of this shooting, however, it was expected and inevitable that somebody would be shot over this musical controversy. The only questions were who, when, and how severely.
More details will be provided as I have them. JNS urges calm on both sides and mediation by respected members of the community to prevent further bloodshed.

ReplyDeleteI do not approve of the "kill that bitch" comment but I am posting it as part of a vigorous debate. Quite likely the comment was not even posted by somebody involved in the issues but rather a certain stalker who lives in Texas with his grandma, who just likes to see if he can stir the pot.
ReplyDeleteActually, Christopher Bahtouh came up with it.

ReplyDeleteThe guy who shot Kibbie was convicted. Here's the press release that went out from the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
ReplyDeleteJury convicts Brooklyn Center man in Target Field shooting
A jury found a Brooklyn Center man guilty of two counts of attempted murder for the benefit of a gang in the April shooting outside Target Field, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman announced Monday.
The jury deliberated over parts of two days before convicting James Davis, 28, for shooting Kibbie Walker and Cortez Blakemore as they left their cleaning job at Target Field on April 12. Davis will be sentenced March 19 at 10 a.m.
“This was a difficult case because the main victim was not cooperative and did not want to say who shot him,” Freeman said. “But the jury did an excellent job of listening to all the evidence we put forth. We are determined to stop these gang shootings.”
Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Thad Tudor, in his closing arguments Friday morning, noted that Walker, despite being shot in the chest and the abdomen, did not help on the witness stand.
“You saw Kibbie Walker try to tank this case,” Tudor said. “He said, ‘I don’t know who shot me.’ This is the don’t snitch crowd.’’
According to the criminal complaint, Walker and Blakemore were just leaving their new job cleaning up after a Twins night game just before 3 a.m. As they were walking out of the left field gate, three men in hooded sweatshirts came up to them and began shooting. Blakemore was seriously injured when a bullet hit his spinal cord.
Tudor said that while Walker was not helpful on the witness stand, his recorded interview with police was informative, including when Walker picked Davis out of a photo lineup. Another witness testified that Davis joined him and others at the Flameburger restaurant and said he did the shooting and to watch the news.
The complaint, and testimony during the trial, indicated that this was a feud between two gangs. Davis is a member of the 1-9s and Walker is a member of the Taliban. Walker admitted to police that he made a YouTube video making fun of the shooting death at the Epic Nightclub of 1-9s leader Tyrone Washington.
Walker also will be sentenced next month. In December, he pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault for shooting repeatedly at a car at Chicago Avenue and Eighth Street on April 30.
