Being the amazing, true-to-life adventures and (very likely) misadventures of a writer who seeks to take his education, activism and seemingly boundless energy to North Minneapolis, (NoMi) to help with a process of turning a rapidly revitalizing neighborhood into something approaching Urban Utopia. Fixture Thieves Ransacked 3001 6th Street N.
Example of an antique door, photo from "Healy House"
blog by Ranty.
Constance (a.k.a. "Ranty") is a real estate agent with a passion for ownership and the North Side. She has been spending some time over here on this blog. (And she left me those flowers!)
She has the scoop on 3001 6th Street N., the property I helped secure a few nights ago on my "Western perimeter," which is "Peter and Joy's Block." Word on the street is...
...3001 6th Street N. has already been pilfered of stained or leaded glass transoms. (Who knows which it was, the stuff is just freaking GONE) In addition, the thieves made off with vintage door hardware and leaded buffet doors.
But Constance expressed her gratitude for me trying to keep an eye on the house, which could prevent further theft. She says she has seen these kind of things happen between showings. She still has enthusiasm for 3001 6th Street North, calling it "a lovely foursquare" despite the missing fixtures. (Yes, it does look like a great house!)
Imagine being a real estate agent...talking up the leaded glass transoms...and then arriving to find a gaping hole over the living room door. Like Obama of late, one won't be "closing the deal" very quickly.
But Ranty emphasizes (and I want to find more ways to underscore this) there are secure and livable blocks on the North Side which don't fit into the all-too-common stereotype, places where people do look out for their neighbors.
