Which Of These Park Board Candidates Embraces The Modern Wonder Of Email?

Top, official photo of Jon Olson on Park Board website, bottom, photo by John Hoff

There's an interesting little "bottom of the ballot" race shaping up for Park Board between Jon Olson and Michael Guest. The area one of these candidates will represent includes most (but not all) of North Minneapolis. (NoMi)

Here's an interesting little factoid which says a lot about the candidates. Jon Olson is the only Park Commissioner who (as of today) doesn't have an email address listed on the Park Board web page, click here. Word on the street is that Jon Olson is something of a Luddite when it comes to using email and the internet.

As for Michael Guest...well, I can personally confirm the man has email and uses it.

I am hoping one of these two candidates will write to me and say something about the shamefully inadequate amenities at Glengale Park, click here, which were pointed out to me by Kip Browne, the Chairman of JACC. One of them can just, you know, send me an email.

  1. I wasn't aware Michael was running for Park Board. NOMI would be very fortunate to have him representing them on the Park Board...

  3. Johnny,

Thank you for posting on these important issue.

    1) We need Commissioners who are accessible and responsive to their constituents.

    2) Glengale Park is exhibit A on why I am running. The Park Board needs to focus on the basics, like clean and well maintained parks before constructing new fancy buildings.

  4. YIKES!!

You mean we should vote for an elected official who can't even keep track and remember what messages he/she is sending out and leaving in cyberspace???

I expect the BEST from my elected officials.

  6. Greetings Johnny Northside!

You do a fantasic job shedding light on the mortgage crisis and other issues on the Northside, with humor and commitment. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thanks also for pointing out my missing e-mail on www.minneapolisparks.org.

I pointed it out to staff, and it will be corrected asap. In the meantime, my email is jolson@minneapolisparks.org and my personal email is olsonforparks@gmail.com. Please keep in touch.

As for Glengale Park, we are aware of those issues, and repairs are slated for next year. We are also working hard on securing some grant money to do a whole Tot Lot at Glengale.

To find another park nearby with the amenities you are looking for, visit our website, click on "parks and lakes" then "find a park" then "Northside" then select what you are looking for. There are 17 parks with Tot Lots on the Northside.

In the meantime, keep up the good work, and thanks for keeping me on my toes!

  7. Well - I think the candidate that left work to come to my aid when being harassed by kids while biking at Webber Park gets my vote. I called 911 and the cops were busy but Olson responded to my text message, found me at Webber Park, AND followed me home to make sure I was ok. The cops showed up 10 minutes later at my front door and took a statement. THAT is public service!

    Yep, that is public service.

Waiting a year for repairs at Glengale park, which has been in that condition for the last three years, is not service.
