Assertive's Footprint Is Now 36 Properties on the Northside: Let's Get to Know Them...

We’ve been hearing quite a bit about the Ken Welch, Assertive Properties, and all of the homes they own on the Northside, including the notorious 1611 Hillside. So, let’s take a deeper look into the people and properties involved.

And a couple of the filings give us some insight into the people who run these companies:

We know that Kenneth Wayne Welch, III a/k/a Ken Welch is the guy doing most of the day-to-day work of Assertive, and his name appears on many tax forfeited properties that Assertive has picked up. He allegedly pled guilty to “Theft by Swindle, Over $2,500” in 2002, and there's plenty more about him and his connection to Skyy Financial in this previous JNS post.

Robert Van Hout is, according to a LinkedIn account bearing his name, a Senior Manager at Best Buy. He gave a LinkedIn recommendation to Ken Welch which reads, "Ken is an expert at tailoring hard money loans and real estate deals into money making investments with great returns. I can trust that he has my interests in mind for every deal, taking into account my total portfolio to help manage risk."

Dana Van Hout is a realtor at Edina Realty, a Principal at “Vhout Investments, LLC" and owner of “This & That,” a “Minneapolis skyway convenience store” according to a LinkedIn account bearing her name. Minnesota Department of Commerce records confirm “DANA VANHOUT” is a licensed real estate salesperson with a listed employer of Edina Realty. More discussion in the previously-linked JNS post.

Not a whole lot is known about Tim Alexon’s role in Assertive, although based on a conversation someone had with his attorney, he had a falling-out with Ken Welch that resulted in him suing Welch and a couple Assertive entities in 2012. In that civil case, Alexon lived in Northfield. Separately, there’s a Timothy Dale Alexon who lives in Northfield with a criminal history including assault and many DWIs. Is that the same person?

Another name pops up in one of the business filings: Dewana or Dewanna Crawford, more accurately Dewanna Marie Crawford. A LinkedIn account bearing her name states that she is a “Property Manager” and “Executive Assistant” at Assertive Property Management and Assertive Companies, respectively. Her name is listed on several rental licenses on Assertive’s properties, as well.

And in case you're wondering, there's a very strong connection between Ken Welch and all of the Proton Investments and AHR Construction players too, including Roberto Rodriguez, Andrey Sokurec, and Bradley Loch. That, however, must be saved for another post.
