Jose Francisco Gomez, no known relation to the infamous Gomez crime family, was featured on the television show America's Most Wanted back in January of 2011, click here for City Pages article. Gomez, who was a preacher but apparently had some kind of deal going with the devil, was alleged to have spent years raping his stepdaughter starting when she was seven...
Criminal charges happened in 2006 and, according to City Pages, Gomez either went to Texas or left the country.
However, a hot tip in the form of an anonymous commenter sent this blogger running to the Hennepin County Jail Roster where I found Gomez listed with an address of, incredibly, 14A COLONIAL SAN MAURICIO, SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR. My anonymous commenter says this guy was extradited from Panama City, Panama by authorities but I have no proof of that in front of me. Incredible as that story may be, I have reason to believe it's probably true.
There is an "FBI hold" on the jail roster and I have never seen that in all the years I've been scrutinizing the jail roster. Nor, in all those years, have I seen an address from El Salvador, though I've seen a couple from Mexico.
Gomez is being held on half a million dollars bail for charges of sexual assault on a victim under 13 when the perpetrator is over age 36. The former Pentecostal preacher has been in the jail since January 7 but I guess everybody, including America's Most Wanted, was unaware. Though not a North Minneapolis story (at least not in any way I'm aware of) this was just too hot to walk right by so I was willing (as I often am) to take my lead from readers and commenters.

ReplyDelete"FBI Minneapolis January 07, 2014
Chief Division Counsel Kyle A. Loven (763) 569-8540
FBI Special Agent in Charge J. Christopher Warrener today announced the arrest of Jose Francisco Gomez, 39, in Panama City, Panama, pursuant to a complaint for criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, which was filed in Hennepin County District Court on September 26, 2006.
The complaint alleges that Gomez sexually abused his step-daughter during 1997 and 1998 while they were living in Minnesota. Gomez fled to his native El Salvador shortly after the complaint was filed. Gomez was arrested without incident on December 12, 2013, in Panama City by Panamanian authorities at the behest of the FBI. Gomez had been residing in El Salvador before his arrest in Panama.
Gomez is being extradited from Panama to Minneapolis to face the allegations contained within the criminal complaint. He is expected to appear in Hennepin County District Court this week.
Gomez is considered innocent of these allegations unless or until he is deemed guilty by a court of law."
