List Of Slumlord Properties For Keith Reitman, Mahmood Khan, Bashir Moghul, And (Oh Gee) Dana D Roman Numeral Three...

Above, crap piled up outside 2700 Morgan Ave. N., which was a property of Dana D III.

When my dad and I would go fishing, right before heading ashore we'd take our can of worms and just toss the worms--dirt and all--into the lake. My dad said if we didn't give the fishies some free worms, every now and then, they'd learn worms always have hooks and they'd stop biting on our bait.

And even if it wasn't so, my father pointed out, we could do the fish a favor and give them a meal, since THEY were so often a meal for US.

So it is I have come upon four cans of worms--property lists for four notorious North Minneapolis slumlord entities--but rather than play with the worms, rather than dish up the stuff piecemeal in numerous blog posts--I think I will just open the cans of worms and toss the information upon the wormy waters of the internet. Do with it what you will.

  1. that's interesting that Moghul owns 816 Park Ave S. that property is near downtown and i've walked by it many times. i'm not sure if he still owns the property but they tore the house that was there down last spring. i have before and after pictures if you're interested. it's quite an ugly looking house though, since Moghul tore off all the siding and never replaced it. google maps shows it how it used to look before did that. they did a strib article on it back in march - here it is if you're interested: http://www.startribune.com/local/42091127.html?elr=KArksUUUoDEy3LGDiO7aiU

  2. I would just like to make a comment about Mr. Khan....I have known him for a couple years now and he is a very kind hearted man. He gives shelter to anyone who can prove they have a job and suports the homeless shelters. The places he has rented are in good shape. The homes that you are blogging about are the homes he has not gotten around to fixing yet. He purchased too many at one time and is over his head with work. I do believe that he is actually helping the N. Side by fixing these homes that no one else would touch. Do the research to find the homes he has rehab'd and you will see, the homes are very livable (not slummy).

Mr. Khan has offered to take Johnny on a tour of the homes he was rented in order to stop all the bad mouthing that has occured on this blog.

    Johnny Northside says (via text message) that you should give the property tour to Jeff Skrenes, the Hawthorne Council housing director. Jeff can take pictures, get Mr. Khan's tour information and relay it here to this blog for all the readers to see.

    That way all of us JNS readers don't have to wait on the edge of our seats for the rental tour. There might even be a few readers out there looking for a new place to live! (I'll let you decide if the sarcasm font is broken or if it's coming through crystal clear)

  6. For anyone unfamiliar with the blog, Jeff Skrenes is The Mortgage Geek (the true identity of the mysterious Hawthorne Hawkman remains a mystery, however).

    I am certainly open to a tour of Mahmoud Khan's properties (or anyone else called out in this post) and I am especially interested in properties located within Hawthorne.

    I do have one question first: What is the difference between a slumlord and a nice guy who bought too many properties and now can't handle them? (It's a trick question. The answer is "none.")

    I would consider such a tour, however, under three conditions: first and foremost, it must include several properties of my choosing. I have no intention of letting someone pick and choose their nicest places as a way to hide the worst of the worst.

    Second, I want to bring along a licensed contractor. I am not an expert in how houses are put together and I want someone who can tell me if I'm looking at high-quality work.

    Third, I want to make it clear that I will bring a camera with me and the pictures I take are mine to use as I please (which will likely result in a blog post here telling folks if Khan's properties he showed seem good or bad).

    I will call the number posted to see about doing this soon. If JNS readers have other stipulations that they deem necessary, call me at 612-529-6033 and I'll take them into consideration.

  45. I ironically found this during a housing search. I have bad credit a bad rental history and a dreaded section 8 voucher. So I started looking months ago. Now nearing my deadline I will still end up in one of theses properties. No application fee or waiting period. Maybe someones lucky day day considering im a crmt with a boilers license and im ready to improve my new house and make repairs that other section 8 tenants purposely inflict.. Thank God I dont have to be homeless again with my children.

  48. 3953 Dupont Ave. N., at one time owned by Dana D, is now owned by "Plaza 1 Inc" of Minnetonka. Not sure if that's an isolated instance or if something is happening with the Dana D properties, and at this point I wasn't planning to dig but, hey, head's up. Situation with THAT one changed.
