Regular JNS blog readers will recall a messy, developing story from yesterday about Al Flowers possibly dropping out of the mayoral race.
It now appears Al Flowers (or somebody in control of his "Al Flowers For Mayor" Facebook page) posted info that Flowers needed "support," and was thinking of backing out of the mayoral race. Then, later, some kind of denial was issued that Al was ever thinking about backing out of the mayoral race (who is spreading such rumors?!) while, incredibly, the "thinking of dropping out" information was STILL UP ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER RIGHT NEXT TO THE FREAKING DENIAL.
Confused? Let's see if I can shed more light on it.
To understand just how messy this is, the best way might be to check out a definitive document, in this case...
...a screen shot "capture" of Al's Twitter page, which replicated the content of the Facebook page. Click here for two documents that show what "truth to the people" apparently means to Al Flowers.
In the meantime, information just hit the Star Tribune about Al Flowers and a convicted drug dealer, click here for that story. It should be noted that sources close to Johnny Northside had the basic outlines of this story the day before yesterday--that Al Flowers had been cited for something, and drug activity was involved--but both my sources and myself were unable to nail down the specifics of the story...partly due to a pressing need to go to the Metro 100 party where I had a complimentary ticket, and the free Naked Grouse Scotch flowed like a river.
The lead was kicked to the Star Tribune, which quickly unearthed the story.
And quite an ugly story it is.

Oh man, this brings a whole NEW set of word to Al Flowers BINGO...
ReplyDeletewe might have to change it from a drinking game to a smoking game...
From the Strib article:
ReplyDelete"Alfred Flowers is not aware of any allegation that marijuana was located on him, or that he was arrested,"..
So, like, was he too STONED to be aware???
No wonder he can't find BroadwayColfax Ave N.
ReplyDeleteBut you would think his gang member associates would have told him, you know, since they pretty much control that stretch of Broadway. No wonder he felt so comofortable there.
Everybody must get stoned.

I got to the applicable Dylan quote way before the Hawthorne Hawkman. EAT MY DUST, Hawthorne Hawkman, blah ha ha ha ha!
This does not surprise me at all - about 4 years ago - election day 2005 - northside - Don vs. Natalie - both campaigns were out on major roads doing visibility demonstrations. I'm standing on corner of Penn/Plymoouth with a Don Samuels sign.
ReplyDeleteWho should pull up to the curb in a white ford explorer but Al Flowers. The passenger door opens, Al's foot emerges and a huge cloud of weed smoke comes billowing out, like a tribal sweat lodge. I caught a contact high, out in the open air!
I wasn't worried about Al harrassing me, I knew I could just distract him with a bag of Doritos, much like you would throw a T-bone to the Rottweiller to get past the gaurd dog. LOL!
Ooooo! And it's even got a Jill Clark quote too!
ReplyDeleteDo you think she charges EXTRA for a friday night overtime rate??
Man alive! This was THE BEST and MOST APPROPRIATE time EVER for that Dylan song and you just HAD to get it there before me. The only thing left for me to do is come up with an Al Flowers version of "Rainy Day Women #12 and #35." (also known as "Everybody Must Get Stoned")
ReplyDeleteThey'll stone you when you try to tell the truth
They'll stone you when you talk about the youth
They'll stone you when it's cold or when it's hotter
They'll stone you when you do not pay your water
I would not be so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.
RE: the twitter/facebook curfuffle.. it just shows that even when he argues with HIMSELF in PUBLIC he can't get things straight!!!!
ReplyDeleteHere's what Don Allen said on Facebook:
ReplyDeleteHey Al, fire Farheem. Get a new manager and move on!
Al Flowers's name is now Al Bud.
ReplyDeleteBut on a more serious note...
Smoking weed isn't such a big deal, sometimes I think RT should lay off it too. But hanging out with a known gang banger isn't always the best campaign strategy. I want Al to give some truthtothepeople.com and fess up with regard to his relationsip with the thug in question.
I'll publish your comment, but I've never heard of RT being involved with weed and I suspect this to be disinformation.
ReplyDeleteI'll agree that Al's association with criminal thugs is worrisome. Are people even SAFE around this unstable freak-a-doodle doo?
Johnny -
ReplyDeleteAs to RT's use of wackey-tobaccy, I jest only to point out that sometimes what comes out of his mouth is smoke (and sometimes it sounds like a stoner idea).
Al is dangerous though. But my URL will tell you how I feel about him.
"I was gonna be a big town mayor...[click website for the rest of the song]"

In all fairness - who cares about smoking weed. Personally I don't but there are some that do (Of course they're not running for mayor of Minneapolis). But when its all said and done, and the "smoke" clear, Pink Floyd will sound just as good!
ReplyDeleteHey, sense we're talking news...What's happening at Insight News...? Are they in Minnesota anymore? Why are they copying national news stories like their USA today?
ReplyDeleteJust saying -
What is with all the lunatic fringe candidates running afoul of the law lately?
ReplyDeletePerhaps the Queen of England is behind it.
FYI - at this time, Al Flowers on Twitter has the three following posts:
ReplyDeleteAlflowers To all supporters... Please don't listen or feed into the trash talking that the opponents of Al Flowers has been... http://bit.ly/2ofhxBabout 3 hours ago from Facebook
Alflowers The smear campaigns coming out is just to discourage you from voting for Al in November, yes this campaign has set... http://bit.ly/2WoYeabout 3 hours ago from Facebook
Alflowers come out and support Al Flowers for Mayor of Minneapolis, at the BarBQ Fundraiser from 2-6pm 10/3/09. 42nd & 3rd... http://bit.ly/4zWPYZabout 3 hours ago from Facebook
However, when you click on the link, it goes to his Facebook campaign site and it says there are no recent posts.
Hmmm....
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ReplyDeleteOctober 3, 2009
Minneapolis, MN...Minneapolis Mayoral Candidate Alfred Flowers gets endorsement from NORML and Tommy Chong!
For more information call 612-867-5309 (don't loose that number!)
You know - I like that guy Don Allen. He's on "his" side. He doesn't hold back and he always signs his name on his comments.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that AF really is a "Crack Pot" Candidate?
ReplyDelete"He's on "his" side."
ReplyDeleteYou got that right. He's definitely unconcerned about the collateral damage he causes whenever he runs off cockeyed without stopping to consider the facts. For instance, the recent slander on his blog about Don Samuels, or the way he's been trying to shove Lennie "Domestic Assault" Chism down all our throats all year.
The NOMI Squirrel says:
ReplyDeleteWhy isn't anyone bringing the most important issue - what was AF doing at the home of a known gang member? Was he out gathering support for his campaign, or does ho just hang-out there?
Wouldn't that be the day that Insight News reported THIS story... but then again, they probably would just interview Staten and Moss and call his weed possession a plant by the police to "diss-credit" him as a candidate.
ReplyDeleteIts best they pretend to be USA-Today.
I wonder if that was Al "Bud" Flowers I saw on T-Block hangin with the Tre-Tre crips?
ReplyDeleteHey NoMi Squirrel - I did bring it up. I wonder if Al "Bud" is now an identified gang member?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like he was LIVING there.
ReplyDeleteYou know it might be appropriate to give the "candidate" the attention he deserves. None.
ReplyDeleteThe pot thing is not surprising. The far more disturbing thing is his
hanging out with a "verified" thug.
Good grief!
"Pond Dragon" I think you are right!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL!!!
