Kemen Lavatos Taylor, whose address appears as 2223 6th St. N. on the Hennepin County Jail Roster, remains in custody on three weapons charges. In light of the still unsolved shooting of Terrell Mayes, Jr. and the "riddling by bullets" of a house in the same area a short time later, it's very interesting to find such an (alleged) gun enthusiast living in the same area. However, North Minneapolis is full of weaponry and there's no point getting TOO excited over this arrest.
There appear to be two identical charges of possessing a "pistol or assault weapon" and one charge of possessing a "machine gun or sawed off shotgun." Here is the unedited info off the jailhouse roster...

Taylor was arrested March 20 but still remains in custody.
Taylor's criminal record shows a fifth degree possession of a controlled substance charge, for which he was found guilty and got three years probation, plus credit for 33 days served. He also pled guilty to escape from custody and (if I read the data correctly) was sentenced to a year in the St. Cloud correctional facility with credit for 8 days served.
As of today, Taylor still owes the court $156 on that last charge.
Taylor has also pled guilty to taking movable property without consent. He was sentenced to time served, which was 60 days.
He also failed to obey a stop sign, pleaded not guilty, and was fined $150. However, in light of the fact he'd served 4 days in jail, the fine was suspended.
The house at 2223 6th St. N. is owned by Proton Investments, Inc. The proof Taylor resides there is only the jailhouse roster, which is not 100 percent reliable.
No name is listed for the taxpayer on the house, merely an address: 5353 Wayata (sic) Blvd. #201, Minneapolis, MN 55416. As of 6/13/2011, the rental license was in review.
And now my editorial comments in this situation:
Authorities have talked a lot about getting the guns off the streets of North Minneapolis. So if Taylor is found guilty...
Taylor should go away for a long time.
On another note...
This particular blog post is the first of (I hope) many more, in which I dig deeply into the data contained in the Hennepin County Jailhouse Roster, looking for incidents relevant to North Minneapolis.
Yes, I will still be printing the roster verbatim, but now I plan to add "additional value" to my postings of the unedited roster.

I knew I recognized the name Proton Investments from somewhere. I seem to remember an email from another colleague of mine that raised suspicions of their activities as well, but I can't quite track that down.
ReplyDeleteThat link, by the way, goes to a sign spam post of mine on North by Northside. Here's more info on Proton Investments, taken from the MN Secretary of State website. I've got a few other research tricks up my sleeve, but I'm in the middle of a few things here. Remind me soon to dig up a little more on these guys.
ReplyDeleteProton had a 'great' YouTube video extolling the joys of ignoring problem renters--they are an annoyance you as the home owner can 'forget about' when enlisting Proton as your management company. The video has since disappeared after airing last fall.
ReplyDeleteProton owns a property on Russell N that for years sported a yard full of garbage and more recently, had a garage full of 'scrapping' materials and fuel/gas tanks literally blow up and damage the nearby properties. The neighbors insist this was actually a 'chopshop' operation gone bad--the renter was subletting the garage out to a family friend for his 'business' operations. This renter also had a boyfriend who owned an aggressive pitbull later removed by animal control. This couple and their visitors verbally and racially assaulted the neighbors, including making threats against their life up until they were evicted last fall. Given the lack of movement on Proton's part through all of the years of bad renters at that property, I have to assume the only reason they evict anyone is when significant damage ruin their "investments". Proton bought another home on Sheridan this winter...ugh.
Seems like the "hot and tasty jailhouse nuggets" tactic is working GREAT. I can hardly wait to dig into the REST of the jailhouse roster, if I've produced this much discussion and further digging on the last couple blog postings.
ReplyDeleteHello all bloggers,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Roberto Rodriguez and I am the President of Proton Investments Incorporated.
As our name has been mentioned in some of the blogs, I think it is appropriate that I clarify some aspects that have been pointed out.
Our company was established on July 2010 as "The Hawthorne Hawkman" correctly mentioned by posting the website of the Secretary of the State. We have a team of managers to manage the rental properties and a crew of well-trained individuals to do all kinds of necessary repairs that might be needed in the rental properties. We do care for our tenants and if you talk to any of our tenants, they will say so.
1. The incident at 2223 6th Street North is a lamentable incident. The individual caught with the weapons was not a resident or an individual listed in the lease of the property. We make all our tenants fill our an Addendum to the Lease asking them to obey all the City ordinances and all the laws and inform them by this means that no infraction of the law will be tolerated. This addendum is part of all our leases after we carefully investigate all the potential tenants. In addition, we receive reports on a regular basis from the police department, informing us about any situation in any of our properties. These reports are emailed to me and I personally take care of any situation that might arise. In this specific case we received a phone call from the police telling us that an individual who was thought to be armed was inside the property and the police had the house surrounded. The tenant apparently did not open the door to the police. We coordinated with the police to have access to the property and the specific individual was apprehended. The tenant as she already knew what was in store for her (we do not know if she was implicated in the situation or not) she moved out. Then we cleaned and repaired the house and sold the house. It was a sad event for all of us.
2. I can assure you that no video of the type described by "Anonymous" has ever existed in our website. We do manage properties for other individuals and companies and it would be contrary to our business interests to say that we do not care about the tenants. Also, the property that the same source describes that we own in the Russell property is the property at 2715 Russell Avenue North, which we have owned since May 2010. As the events that this source explains apparently occurred long time ago, they probably occurred during the previous ownership of the property which lasted at least six years. When there is garbage in a yard we are informed either by our own people who visit the properties regularly, or by the City of Minneapolis. We have an individual whose only responsibility is to take those offending materials out of the property. The turnaround time is very quick.
We appreciate the efforts made by "Johnny Northside" in keeping up the neighborhood. In these efforts, you all have in Proton a partner and not an enemy.
If you see any situation in any property owned by Proton which requires immediate attention, please email me to my direct email rbrtrod@earthlink.net or give me a call to my direct number 763-245-9790. You are assured that any of your comments will have all of our attention and that we will do whatever we have to do to keep the neighborhood clean of crime and with good tenants.
Roberto M. Rodriguez
President
Proton Investments Incorporated
Sorry for the slight delay in posting this, it ended up in the spam folder.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most thoughtful and helpful comments posted in the history of this blog, and I thank you, but we are seeing the name of your company come up a lot lately.
So...keep working on that.
As for the video Anonymous spoke of, if it exists then Anonymous should post a link. Anonymous did say the video was on YouTube and your reply says no video like that has ever existed on your website. Are you using lawyerly language, here? Because it's possible for BOTH statements to be true.
The real question is whether a video like that exists, not where it's posted.
Here is the YouTube page for Proton Investments.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/user/ProtonInvestments
So far I'm not seeing any video like that. I'm seeing a lot of stuff about "positive cash for negative homes" and "we'll buy your house, you don't have to fix it or anything."
I get a strong feeling Proton cares nothing for our neighborhood unless it somehow potentially impacts their bottom line.
Thanks to the documentation of Hawthorne Hawkman, there is evidence they are behind "sign spamming."
Heck, I give that guy some credit for coming here and writing. More than most slumlords do. He's putting his contact info out there. Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteIf landlords want to be partners then they can take more responsibility to keep tabs on what is happening on their property.
ReplyDeleteDon't force the nearby homesteaders to babysit and call police in to remedy the illegal activities taking place while you profit from taxpayer subsidies of these cheap investments.
It looks to me that Proton Investments simply enables gutless slumlords by allowing them to remain anonymous while their investment wreak havoc on the community.
BTW...is the title of "president" supposed to evoke some awe inspired respect for a group that dabbles in sub-standard rentals?
I'm "president" of this blog!
ReplyDeleteI am the anonymous who posted the original comments about Proton, and I can tell you the reply from Roberto is about as worthless as the properties he owns.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, as I posted earlier, the video no longer is available on YouTube. In fact, I would argue the very fact he is addressing the video of the mangled-English speaking Eastern European 25-year-old (sound familiar, Roberto?) telling people to "ferrrgit aboot problem renters, just git check in mail" is precisely because this was Proton's premier YouTube video for their joke business and it did indeed exist. I pulled this dead link from my sent mail:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an8wdFA_6XI
I also like how he sidesteps the explosion at 2715 last fall and claims "Garbage Man" must have existed long before his company owned the property. BS. "Garbage Man" disappeared in April of 2010 and was immediately replaced with the derelict who set the garage on fire. Last sale of the property, according to city records: 2003.
I see the Minneapolis Property Info Search for 2715 has been recently purged. Roberto's name was listed at the Taxpayer and Owner. Now all the links to rental licenses are empty and the taxpayer is now listed "Green Valley Land Trust" (delusional laughter). Again, more smoke and mirrors to make the process of accountability even harder.
I am an educated person, far, far more educated than anyone at Proton, and I resent the implication that I am either an idiot or a liar. You folks made your sty, and from what I've read lately, its far-reaching.
I'm the "president" of the Adventures of Johnny Northside anonymous peanut gallery!
ReplyDeleteIt's morning. I'm taking a shower, soon.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mr. Bar Of Soap? I'm your PRESIDENT, so you better listen!
Well, what do you know!
ReplyDeleteSomebody sent me some information about Proton including what reportedly USED TO BE a live link with some explanation about Proton's dubious business model.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=an8wdFA_6XI
But the link goes to a "video removed by the user."
Got more information besides just this, digging into it right now.
Sometimes when I see videos on the internet that I strongly suspect will disappear after I write about them, I will actually VIDEOTAPE the video, right off my computer screen.
ReplyDeleteHad to do something like that, once, with the "Don Allen talking baby video."
http://adventuresofjohnnynorthside.blogspot.com/2011/02/here-is-new-face-of-north-minneapolis.html
Sorry about the delay in posting the comment about the missing video, that comment ended up in my spam folder.
ReplyDeleteKemen Lavatos Taylor's bail now stands at $50,000. The same amount is listed on two charges, so I'm not clear if that's $50,000 or $100,000 but it hardly matters since he's still in jail.
ReplyDeleteWelp, 2715 Russell is clearly short on appliance amenities--the new residents dry their clothing by shoving the wet articles through the chain-link fence. Almost every day socks, underwear, towels, sheets, etc., fill the fence and give the alley a third-world ambiance. I guess it would be too much of a financial burden for the investors of Proton to purchase a $40 dollar dryer off Craigslist or even a $10 dollar clothesline and pins for their tenants. I wonder if they even have a washing machine?
ReplyDeleteThe newly-acquired Sheridan residence is quickly becoming a potential nuisance property. The neighbors were awoken at 3am a few weeks ago by a indoor yelling match fierce enough to be heard across the street. Last night I witnessed the white vehicle that "stays" there peeling out with enough force to create a lingering dust cloud several times in a single hour. Last weekend it was f-bombs and low-grade commotion between a female and the driver of the white car. Yep, Proton sure does carefully screens its residents alrighty. Can't wait for the situation to escalate this summer and start my three-digit dialing.
PROTON INVESTMENTS
ReplyDeleteOK, I just wrote that to get the attention of the search engine.
I received the following by email a couple days ago and wanted to add it to this discussion.
----------------
As for 2715 Russell, the fence line is still full of clothing. The next-door neighbors just called 311 last week because the lawn hadn't been mowed in a while, probably all spring (I don't often drive down Russell, so I couldn't say for sure). There are about 5 kids living there that when unattended, start climbing all over the neighboring properties (according to my neighbors). I haven't had that happen in my backyard yet but you know I'll call as soon as I see it.
This is probably all small potatoes compared to the activities at properties further east in NoMi, but it still impacts quality of life.
wow, Johnny u really need 2 go kill ur self!!! I Like & have a decent professional relationship with my landlord @ (Proton) sorry if their more down 2 earth people than u are & understand the urban community & wants 2 help instead of making it harder on the community their taking & giving chances on tenants they (Screen)!!! Sometimes when a woman is involved with a guy, maybe her kids father... we dont know that this fool is gonna act a fool or even when!!! No one wants to be in such situations where your kids, home, lives are in jeapordy or corrupted because a man with issues enters your life, then start acting out & changing after so long! People can sometimes notice the red flags & some cant....I am disgusted with how you so eloquently put every body in the same catergory & label us all as simply "products of our environment" because of who we are & where we reside, wen you haven't walked a day in the life of None of the Northside REsidents! so don't judge....& for the last few years...u do that well, u sound so racist at times (probably ARE)!! smh yes iv'e read some of your blogs in the past, and u just seem like a no-life having nosey snitch! that think your so perfect, BUT YOUR NOT! Stealing all your information from other public websites & think your so smart, tah! NOT! Well i'am not what u want me 2 be (a debator)....sorry & i prefer southside over northside, but this is where i grew up, and this is where i reside (at this time) & not everybody can help going thru certain circumstances that come in life, so while u bashing landlords & tenants over north wondering if we have washers & dryers in our homes (yes "I" do, but if I choose to dry my clothes outside thru summer breezes, dont wanna be stereo typed as ghetto & "I must dont have a dryer"...smh) i feel u should direct alot of your time & attention on the messed up judistrial system on why they keep letting out these molesters & woman beaters & predators & robbers & thieves back on the streets with only serving less than a year Concurrent!Men are not pulling out there track records wen u meet'em & woman/victims are not handing out the sentences... wow johnny, smh your Blogs are whack!!!!!!!!!! What are u doing for the community? but talking about it! Did u help pick up sum trash in the hood lately? have u bought the kids in the hood sum ice cream on a hot day? Do u reach out to the community in sum way period? NOPE!u seem to hide behind your keyboard alot! Shout out to Proton, you guys are great people to rent from & to know :)
ReplyDeleteYou need to have a "decent and professional relationship" with the concept of a PARAGRAPH.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really read beyond your first couple sentences. Best of luck with, well, whatever crap it is you are jabbering about in a barely-literate manner.
There's a difference between drying clothing neatly outside on a line a few times a week and then dumping them all over the fenceline handrails, everyday, making the place look like a refugee camp. Clearly Proton doesn't give a crap--either there is no dryer at the property or they won't provide even a clothesline, neither of which is the tenant's fault, so don't paint this like a tenant-bashing story. Neighbors have a right to be upset about this kind of behavior. It encourages people to steal whatever has been hanging there for a few days and also lets them think that throwing their garbage in our yards from CVS is also okay because the yard looks like crap already.

ReplyDeleteNot the LAST poster, but whoever posted NINE TIMES about this Ronnie Ward and his brother.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, like I said on the other thread where you posted about this, the "dog who was kidnapped thread."
I assume you're posting on this thread because you just hit the "most recent posts" gadget and posted wherever. Fair enough.
If what you're saying is NOT TRUE, then you're talking some pretty bad stuff about this Ronnie Ward and his brother. If it IS true, there are ways to provide your info to the police besides this blog. Obviously, I will make sure the info gets to the police. I will DRAW IT TO THEIR ATTENTION.
Now then. What else can you tell me about this guy? Where he lives? Age? Race? Is his real name Ronnie or Ronald? Is he in a gang? What gang? AND ANYTHING ELSE YOU KNOW THAT I HAVEN'T THOUGHT OF ASKING.
WHICH Ronnie Ward?
ReplyDeleteThe one born 11/22/1962? (Real name Ronald, no middle name listed)
The one born 6/24/69? (Charged but acquitted of murder in 2002 on a mistrial?)
The one born 1/28/89? (Young, but has a nice little record going)
