Jeff Skrenes (Hawthorne Hawkman) who lives right down the street at 26th and Penn noticed activity today and saw the "mutated office building" at 2419 Penn Ave. N. was in the midst of being demolished. Hawkman has work and family obligations and kindly kicked this info my way so I could rush to inform readers of revitalization progress, progress, progress on the West Broadway corridor.
The building, which looked like a house but...
...was an office building, had been vacant for at least a couple years. When referencing the building more than one person called it Keith Reitman's "mutated office building" near Penn and West Broadway or words like "that weird little tan building that looks like a house but it's an office building, I guess, though it's been vacant as long as I can remember."
Personally, I have no recollection of the building being anything but vacant since 2008, but I don't live near it and couldn't swear to it under oath!!!
Yes, I have been reading too many court documents written by Spanky Pete the sex offender. Who, gee, lives nearby. Spanky knows Keith Reitman really well but I totally mean that in a "scuttling, creepy little apparent minion of lowly tasks" implication, not in a "guilt by association" way.
ANYWAY, the building was like that one desperate little hotel game piece sitting on a square in the Monopoly board game just so nobody else could occupy the same square, with hope thick in the air that another player would one day cough up big money for that spot. Well, Reitman eventually got his wish, though it's unknown how much money was coughed up. (The city property website is, as usual, no help when it comes to sales information) The property will be part of the big Broadway Liquor Outlet expansion.
Now that the Backhoe of Doom is warmed up and working, JNS blog expects the old Fire and Ice Building will soon fall as well.

Was that the former location of a massage place?
ReplyDeleteNot sure. I will look into that and try to get you an answer.

ReplyDeleteThere used to be a barber and beauty salon there named Miranda's Hair Salon. However, it also comes up as a massage place.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say "massage place" do you mean MASSAGE place, as in people aren't really going there for a MASSAGE?
Well, I'm sure SOMETHING is getting massaged.
