EMBRA JERMAINE BOLDEN Listed 2818 Colfax Ave. N. As His Address When Sitting In Jail, Location Was Scene Of Deadly Fire That Claimed 5 Lives Including At Least 3 Children...

Stock photo, blog post by John Hoff

According to the last two last paragraphs of a story in the Star Tribune about the deadly fire at 2818 Colfax Ave. N., a next door neighbor "said the house always drew a lot of attention, with adults fighting and police being called. Just a few weeks ago, a man and woman were yelling at each other there."

The story went on to say "three police reports have been generated relating to this building in the last 14 months, said police spokesman John Elder. Two were for assaults in February and July 2013. A third was for theft in January."

JNS blog is trying to figure out who, exactly, may have lived at that sad, troubled slumlord property and what kind of police records (if any) they might have. This was a tragedy and at least three innocent children are dead. Digging up every fact that can be found and publishing all those facts is what this blog does.

To some degree the task is, however, pointless. Nine people were injured in a fire at a property owned by slumlord Mahmoud Khan, but Khan still has rental licenses.  In the wake of this kind of tragedy there will be a hue and cry in the short term, a gnashing of civic teeth, but history shows nothing will come of it in the long term and the slumlords will keep right on slumming.

Oh, well. Time to embrace the futility...

Information on my handy-dandy monthly republication of the Hennepin County Jail Roster turns up the name Embra Jermaine Bolden...

...who was in jail between June 2, 2013 and July 4, 2013 and listed 2818 Colfax Ave. N. as his address.

Four charges show up in MNCIS but none of these charges are recent and don't cover whatever allegation put Bolden in jail in 2013. Knowing the material I'm working with is limited, all the same here are the four charges with appear on MNCIS for Embra Bolden:

27-CR-96-081808 BOLDEN, EMBRA JERMAINE 04/20/1957 01/03/1997 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed RECEIVING STOLEN GOODS Not applicable - GOC

This was continued for the "De Novo" program, a diversionary program which was hot back in the 1990s but I don't hear so much about it lately.

27-CR-97-054714 BOLDEN, EMBRA JERMAINE 04/20/1957 06/18/1997 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Ridgedale Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed FINANCIAL TRANSACTION CARD FRAUD Not applicable - GOC

Guilty. Got some time in the workhouse.

27-CR-00-004678 BOLDEN, EMBRA JERMAINE 04/20/1957 04/25/2000 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed WRONGLY OBTAIN PUBLIC ASST OVER $2500 Not applicable - GOC

Guilty. Got some time in the workhouse.

27-CR-00-088975 BOLDEN, EMBRA JERMAINE 04/20/1957 09/18/2000 Hennepin Criminal/Traffic/Petty Downtown Crim/Traf Mandatory Closed DOMESTIC ASLT

Guilty. Can't really see anything that came of it.

  1. You are such a scumbag. People died, and all you can do is trash them and their landlord. Have you no humanity, no compassion for those that died? Is all you can see is getting a headline in your blog? You are a pathetic piece of shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I just went to the city of mpls and looked up the utility bills online. I found out that the water was to be shut off today Feb 14th. You can check it by using the standard access.

  3. Apparently Mr Bolden does not live there. The family's name is Lewis and they only moved into this apt in October. According to neighbors, the family lived on the second and third floor. I wonder if the third floor was a legal living space. At any rate, This is such a tragedy and my heart goes out to the family.

  4. These children are martyrs who illustrate how fucked up the city of Minneapolis is, especially North. Their blood is on the city's hands.

  5. Headline is accurate as written, but word late in the day is all 5 were, in fact, children.

  6. That can be checked online? Please post the link and describe the steps to do that. I've never heard of the public being able to check that kind of thing for other people's bills, but I am open to hearing about new things.

"Authorities said the fire was initially reported on the second floor, where relatives said Troy Lewis, 60, lived with his seven children. Three of the children died at the scene and two at the hospital. Lewis was in serious condition at Hennepin County Medical Center."

  8. Such a tragedy, I wonder if its relevant on who lived there, or who was living there as well as who used the address. Heart goes out to the families.

  9. Comment rejected. I will not publish or tolerate comments which are in the spirit of "all blacks this" or "all whites that." You want to trot out your factual data, that's fine, but leave off your over-generalized and race based conclusions.

  10. And I will add that Sue Jacobsen is also a heartless piece of trash. People died, children died. Get some compassion, and stop worrying about about the utility bills. Times are tough, utilities are extreme this cold winter, people have to make due the best they can. Why don't you donate to this family instead of trashing them you heartless bitch.

  11. Let me see the fire happened on 2/14. The water was shut off on 2/14. Could the water be shut off because of the fire ?!?!? Do we not have better things to worry about!!!

  13. You were right on, Sue Jacobson, and I wrote an article as a result of your info. Thank you so much. So often it is the readers of this blog who provide the hottest leads. I couldn't do it without all of you, some 3,000 page views on an average day!

  14. To the dumb commenter: No, the water was being THREATENED with shut off due to unpaid balance, see new blog posting.

And clearly I do not have better things to worry about, nope.

  15. Dear anonymous, It makes me sick to my stomach that FIVE children died. No one should have to go through this agony. To lose a child, let alone five of your children is too brutal to comprehend. It is worth noting that the water was about to be turned off. Was the heat also about to be turned off or was it already turned off? Why was there a space heater on? Was there a smoke detector and did it work? These are things we need to know so this NEVER happens again. I am a mom of one daughter and a grandma of four grandsons and one granddaughter. And my heart is breaking for this poor family. God bless them, Sue
