Michael Guest, Endorsed By Former Vice President Mondale...

Michael Guest, a North Loop resident running for the District 2 seat on the Minneapolis Park Board, passed exciting news my way recently. He had been endorsed by none other than former vice president Mondale and...

All I can say is...wow. When does a Vice President EVER get involved in politics at such a local, nitty-gritty level? I am immediately impressed both with Mondale for caring this much about NoMi parks, and Mr. Guest for garnering such a prestigious endorsement.

Speaking personally, the most important issues for me are that the Park Board maintain its current level of independence from the city of Minneapolis, getting progress on the 26th Avenue Greenway bike paths, and making sure that north Minneapolis parks get the same level of attention and resources as our fine parks throughout the city.

Michael's commitment to our proud park system in NoMi, and his stances on the above issues have also garnered the support of the Hawthorne Hawkman. But the big deal here is Walter Mondale, supporting Michael Guest for the District 2 Park Board seat.

If someone has a link to a concise explanation of the whole Park Board independence issue (or can take the time to write something out), I would really appreciate seeing it.

So much of the conversation I see about this issue is so vitriolic, and assumes so much familiarity with the whole history of the issue and the different personalities involved, that its not very informative.
