Samuel Johosephat Taylor stands accused of murdering a cab driver in North Minneapolis. This story has been covered extensively by the mainstream media, click here for an example, but it's often the role of this blog to search for neglected and passed over snippets of information.

Breaking News: E & L Food Mart Burning - Will Be Demolished by Day's End

Some time this morning the hood store known as E & L Food Mart started burning. Located on the corner of Emerson and Lowry Avenues North, the store is known for loitering, open air drug dealing and just general thugginess. 

The photos above show the devastation of the fire, the effort by the MFD to put the flames out from above and a handful of Kamish Demolition workers waiting to do their thing.  They estimate they'll have it knocked down by this evening and were just waiting on the gas utilities to be disconnected. 

The entire intersection area of Lowry and Emerson is blocked off and is a flurry of activity of firefighters, demolition workers, Center Point Energy workers and City of Minneapolis and Inspection department workers. Oh, and Police officers.

No info yet on what started the fire or if there is any suspicious circumstances, but other media outlets are reporting on some firefighters who barely escaped before a collapse. 

God Bless the MFD and thank God that firefighter is okay.

And thank God this crappy hood store is gone, gone gone. It's a good day in Nomi.

Rumors Of Revitalization Progress At 2939 Lyndale Ave. N., "The $18,000 House"

The house at 2939 Lyndale Ave. N. was within a hair's breadth of being acquired by by CPED and demolished back in late 2010, early 2011. Only the most narrow of votes by the Hawthorne Neighborhood Association saved the property from The Backhoe Of Doom. 

My role in that close neighborhood vote was prominent, and I pushed hard. In fact, I pushed so hard I know I ruffled some feathers, but I'm hopeful people will consider the deliciousness of the resulting political omelette, rather than how the omelette was made. What I'm hearing is some enthusiastic, energetic neighborhood revitalizers have acquired the property and are throwing their hearts and souls into renovating it.

How much did they pay for the house?  Keep in mind this house had incredible hardwood floors and was located close enough to the amazing Bangkok Market to hit the front door by throwing a softball.

Well, The Re/Max website and numerous other internet sources confirm the house sold for $18,000.

And the best part? Bargains like this still exist all over NoMi.

Today I said to myself, "Self, you are writing too much about crime in North Minneapolis and not enough about the successful movement toward neighborhood revitalization."

Part of the problem is that I'm not all the way home yet after Afghanistan, not yet present and documenting the various neighborhood soirees, impromptu wine tastings, and renovation parties that characterize the NoMi revitalization movement.

Jailhouse roster data, courts data, and online property information on the other hand...the main ingredients in my "jailhouse roster nuggets" recipe...I could write that stuff FROM THE MOON if I had a fast internet connection. So, by default, I've been writing a lot about crime.

But today I was sorting through old messages on Facebook, and one of my friends sent me a link to this YouTube video. I watched it and thought, "This is who we are in North Minneapolis. This is who we are becoming."

WangWang is a beagle, as you can plainly see, with pedigree papers proving his pure beagle-ness. His name is actually pronounced "Wong Wong" but spelled "WangWang." Don't ask me why, it's something to do with the fact his name is Chinese.

This video is not an "isolated incident" with WangWang. Whenever somebody sits down at a piano, WangWang wants to accompany that person with his own brand of "Beagle Blues."

Criminal complaint documents are usually a cornucopia of (alleged) criminal information: names, dates, places, makes and models of cars right down to the license plate, even colorful nicknames and aliases. A grand jury indictment is different. It's a bare bones document showing a "grand jury" of random citizens believes there is enough evidence for a criminal indictment of Donquarius Copeland in the murder of 13-year-old Rayjon Gomez.

One prosecutor famously said he could get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.

That doesn't mean Donquarius Copeland is innocent, no more than it means he's guilty. The courts will decide whether Copeland killed Rayjon Gomez...

Adai Rajihi Williams, Accused Of Fleeing A Police Officer, Connection To Today's High Speed Chase Not 100 Percent Confirmed...

There was a high speed chase today in North Minneapolis. The chase started around 1:30 and ended when the suspect crashed into a cab carrying four people near Lyndale Ave. N. and 29th Ave. N. according to KAAL, click here for news article.

Based upon a theory the suspect was from the same neighborhood where the police chase ended, I checked the Hennepin County Jail Roster for all suspects booked today. Fantastic. His surname starts with a "W." I had to go through pretty much the whole roster.

Adai Rajihi Williams, DOB 2/3/92, was booked at 2:15 PM, a short window of time between when I suspect the chase ended (these things go for 10 to 20 minutes, usually) and some more time to be transported to the jail. And, of course, fleeing police is the charge listed and he's "held without bail," which usually means a more serious incident.

Hennepin County Jailhouse Roster Nuggets, Slow Cooked To Perfection...

Diamond Latoya Peebles, DOB 8/14/91, was arrested for alleged theft/transfer of movable property without consent. No bail was required and she was released from custody. Peebles' lists her address as 4900 Newton Ave. N., a rental owned by Mojo Holdings 4 LLC. No prior criminal record can be found in online court records.

Notably, the only mention on the internet for "Diamond Latoya Peebles" is the ubiquitous site called Jailbase.com, listing the same arrest info but not listing the home address. So a few moments ago I sent this site a message and pointed out how there's a way to get home addresses to appear on the jail roster by searching under "received by."

I would love it if Jailbase Dot Com would take up some of the work I'm doing on Johnny Northside.com, leaving me free to dig more deeply into jail roster data and write stories.

Simon Charles Percy, DOB 6/12/87, had a previous drug charge for which he received "diversion," according to online court records, but Percy admitted a probation violation and faces a criminal judgment and warrant of commitment. All the same, it appears he's been released on "interim conditions." The court record says "post bond" but the roster says he was "released from custody" on 4/20, showing zero bond.

Darryl Lashan Parker, DOB 11/4/87, is out of jail on $40,000 bail. He is facing drug charges for "10 grams or more cocaine/heroin/meth" within a 90 day period, as well as a third degree charge for "3 grams or more" of the same list of drugs.

Huh? Well, whatever. He's facing drug charges, and not for the first time.

Parker's address on the jail roster is 1321 Newton Ave. N., a rental property owned by Delois Coleman, who is also listed as the taxpayer along with Roger Driver. The address for Coleman and Driver is...

My favorite part is when Melanie Michaels and John Foster talk about how their lives were impacted by the mortgage fraud at 1564 Hillside Ave. N., a notorious and scandalous high-profile crime that involved disgraced former JACC executive director Jerry L. Like the purple cow in the classic 4 line poem by Gelett Burgess, some things just don't exist. Like 2417 Polk Ave. NE.

Oh, don't get me wrong. There's properties with similar addresses, like 2415 and 2419.

But 2417? No, there ain't no such animal.

But Wendell Lee Olson, DOB 2/27/70, formally charged for (alleged) possession of burglary or theft tools, and damage to property, is listed on the jailhouse roster as living at that address.

More amusing, still, he is out of jail on $5,000 bond.

Where is Olson going, I wonder? Is he like Harry Potter who can proceed on his merry way to Kingscross Station and find Platform 9 and three fourths when us mere muggles can't?

I'm guessing that when Olson (allegedly) damaged property, the property in question was at a real address and not some mythical land found in a story book.

Addresses that simply don't exist are a frequent occurrence with the Hennepin County Jail Roster and it leads me to wonder if somebody with fat, swollen fingers is uploading the address info with errors or is it official jailhouse policy to accept at face value anything resembling an address which the (purported) thug in question spits out, without doing any kind of verification?

So right after I left Ghazni Province in Afghanistan and arrived at Bagram Air Force Base...a paradise of internet access and mocha lattes, the only downside being five incoming fire alerts five nights in a row and sleeping in a big tent with, like, 100 other men...I learned about Friedman's Shoe Store caving in to my bloggy pressure campaign (they say they didn't, WHATEVER) and actually fixing up their unsightly glass. So the next logical question was...


...where to focus my harsh, burning light of blogospheric attention and criticism NEXT? Who is the most deserving? Where are results needed most? Where could such attention actually get results?

Well, I'm pleased to announce that after much thought, and input both public and behind the scenes, plus a vision in which Reitman appeared to me and said, "Johnny, Johnny, why are you persecuting me?" I've decided...

Our winner is "Level Three Slum Offender" Keith Reitman, whose "blue sisters" at 26th and Penn were falling to ruin BEFORE the tornado, are falling to ruin more AFTER the tornado, have official paper slapped all over them, sit right in the heart of an area desperately needing development, had historic potential once but it's rotted away like unharvested fruit, are the ultimate example of the bastard color known as "Reitman Blue," are only the foremost of MANY examples of scumoidal slumlordery by the aforementioned Reitman, plus I have a really good photo to use as an illustration, so that pretty much bags it.

Congratulations, Keith Reitman. Oh, what fun First Amendment attention you can expect until this eyesore is resolved. Maybe a blues song about the "blue sisters?" Maybe one North Minneapolis "revitalizer" after another posing in front of the properties (on the oh-so-public sidewalk) and holding their noses?

I Got Your Bail Money RIGHT HERE, BABY! Is Christopher Lee Nix Walking The Streets For Less Cash Than Most People Drop At Buffalo Wild Wings?

Please tell me that's a typographical error on the Hennepin County Jail Roster.

Please tell me Christopher Lee Nix, DOB 12/29/72, charged with assault and disorderly conduct, didn't just walk out of jail for a cash surety of a one wadded up $20 bill that, quite possibly, smelled like marijuana.

But if the roster is right, and if my eyes do not deceive me...


That's exactly what happened. Nix was arrested on a bench warrant from the Plymouth Police Department. The warrant was for 5th Degree Assault, Fear of Harm or Death. State of the charge says BAIL POSTED. The amount of bail? Twenty dollars. There's a disorderly conduct charge, too, which also says BAIL POSTED, but the bail amount is $0. I guess Nix really made that $20 stretch! I bet this guy shops at So Low Foods!

The roster also shows "sentence stayed" on a charge of failing to register a potentially dangerous or (actually) dangerous animal.

Hmmm, I wonder what sort of animal THAT might be?

Maybe...a koala bear? I read how they seem cute and cuddly, but they will try to rip you apart with their claws.

Or, well, zebra mussels. Yeah, I've been reading how this invasive species is wreacking havoc with the ecosystem of Minnesota's lakes. It's very important for anglers to clean their boats and not spread zebra mussels from infected lakes to clean lakes.

Could Nix have been doing that? Hoarding zebra mussels, thinking, "Well, wouldn't it be cool if I put zebra mussels in a lake around here?"

Or maybe it's...it's...

Ryan James Mendoza, DOB 6/7/90, was arrested on a charge of First Degree Aggravated Robbery and has a court hearing on May 7. The jail roster lists his address as 133 14th Ave. NE, and this Northside blog reserves the right to venture where we like.

The address in question is a rental owned by John K. Utke, who miraculously lives inside an itsy bitsy postal box at PO Box 18202, Mpls, MN, 55418.

Mendoza's online court records show a conviction for trespassing, ANOTHER conviction for trespassing, a conviction for first degree robbery, and a conviction for trespassing, return to property within one year.

Kenneth Cornell Mitchner, DOB 3/1/72, has no previous Minnesota criminal court record that I can locate in the usual way, but all the same is accused of...


...drug charges, including possessing "not small amount" of weed. Ironically, Mitchner had to face court on "420 Day" for the weed charge.

Mitchner's address on the jail roster is 3526 Lyndale Ave. N., a rental owned by MN Realty and Management, Inc.

Tahon Donvontae Montgomery, DOB 12/6/93, was arrested on a bench warrant for Aggravated Robbery, First Degree and has a continued case for taking, using or transferring movable property without consent. His address is listed as 4526 Bryant Ave. N.

These charges are a shame, because a search of his online court records reveals only a handful of vehicular-related charges. The address where Montgomery reportedly lives is a rental owned by David Haberman, with Kitty A Widdes also listed as a taxpayer, their address is listed as 5417 Queen Ave. S.

Courtney Rose Montour, DOB 9/19/91, was arrested for alleged burglary. She lists her address as 2947 Upton Ave. N., a single family home owned by Baron Sinkfield of the same address. Info from Jailbase.com leads me to believe the original arrest on this charge took place on March 28, and that she was also arrested for alleged trespassing on March 20.

Montour was convicted of prostitution in 1991, and of a disorderly conduct that same year.

The name Courtney Rose Montour, without a DOB, comes up on a court watch document, click here, where she is mentioned as a co-defendant with a guy named James William Graham, DOB 10/25/73, who was charged in association with an alleged burglary.

Rafiq Abduhl Mortland, DOB 5/18/65, is under arrest and formally charged with simple robbery. A "failure to register as a predatory offender" charge shows up on the roster, but it also says "36 hours, expired."

Don't worry, folks, we will get Rafiq Mortland and his apparent address registered right here on Johnny Northside Dot Com, and it's 1422 Golden Valley Road. The property in question is owned by Morris Klock, a notorious slumlord known here on Johnny Northside as "Kuckoo Clock."

Mortland has a list of criminal charges as tall as, well, a full-sized German made cuckoo clock, and here they all are.

Keep in mind not every one of these charges may represent actual convictions.

Obviously, the most interesting charge--and apparently the charge that made Mortland a predatory offender--is the charge for Attempted Criminal Sexual Conduct In The Third Degree. He was convicted, obviously, but really...how refreshing it is to see a sex crime that was merely ATTEMPTED and not COMMITTED.

Well, I was hoping to stack a few more nuggets in the nugget box, but sometimes a guy like Mortland hogs all the nuggety glory and leaves no room for anybody to follow. Really, how are you going to follow an act like that?

But don't worry, we're only to the middle of the alphabet.

Johnny's Rule: Read Twice Before Commenting Once, Please Conduct All Your Internet Discussions Accordingly...

It happened again like it happens so often. A commenter on this blog fired off an angry response to one of my postings and, after reading what he/she wrote, I had to wonder...

Did this anonymous person actually READ what I said before they commented? Did they understand the facts presented before rhetorically vomiting all over the keyboard with a terribly flawed response that makes me want to reply, "Have you taken your Attention Deficit Disorder medication today, hmmmm? Because you really missed something."

There is an old proverb which goes, "Measure twice. Cut once." In other words, think and calculate carefully before you commit yourself to an action that can't be reversed. Did the anonymous poster do this before spitting up their hairball of a reply into the universe?

The anonymous poster asks why I'm even posting this information about a woman arrested for prostitution and how does it have any impact on my "beloved turf" (of North Minneapolis) and makes mention of the fact there's "no location" listed for the incident.

In fact, let me quote the relevant portion of their comment, word-for-word:

"What is your point in providing her history, or even the arrest? As you stated yourself it may be old information and there's no location so who knows if it even impacts your 'beloved' turf."

Yeah, that's right. There's no location listed for the incident. That was my very last point in the blog post. Like so many people who don't think deeply, the commenter is responding off my very last point and ignoring my other points.

Heck, sometimes I even write blog posts that way on purpose, making my very last point to be whatever I want to generate the most discussion, or trying to PROVOKE discussion that way. (Click, for example, my recent post about an accused burglar where my last point is to compare him to dog crap)

But in regard to the blog posting about the arrested (alleged) prostitute, my last point was to say I don't know where the incident took place...hoping somebody might know and say something, or talk about how it was PROBABLY PENN AVENUE NORTH, or to speculate that, if she actually did what she's accused of, she probably did it close to where she reportedly lives at 3307 Girard Avenue North.

Yes, a close and careful reading of what I wrote makes mention of an address in North Minneapolis where the (alleged) hooker in question reportedly lives.

So anybody who wants to tell me how it doesn't impact my "beloved turf" would obviously need to address that relevant fact about the woman having North Minneapolis address on the jail roster. They'd have to say something like, "How do you know she really lives there, the roster might not be right." Because my point about not knowing the precise location referred to THE ALLEGED INCIDENT, not where the woman LIVED.

Ah, see. This is why ACTUALLY READING helps you understand better than JUST SKIMMING.

My anonymous critic might also make points like, "Even though she might live in North Minneapolis, if she's doing what she's allegedly doing in South Minneapolis, then this barely effects you at all. I notice you didn't post any other criminal history. Have some sympathy for this lost soul. Why don't you concentrate on ASSAULTS?"

Ah, now THAT would be a strong point and also address the fact there is a North Minneapolis address involved, clearly the kind of thing that's fodder for a (stomp, stomp) North Minneapolis blog.

But the anonymous commenter didn't make a point like that because, well, it seems pretty obvious their response was the result of not reading carefully and just plain MISSING SOMETHING IMPORTANT.

This happens all the time in internet discussions. Rather than sitting down with parchment paper and a quill, we have the ability to respond so quickly that, often, we don't take the time to think, "Am I getting this right? Or am I missing something in my peevish haste? Verily, let me look this over again before I say something STUPID."

As Goodwin's Law was constructed in an attempt to elevate internet conversation by stamping out STUPID HITLER ANALOGIES, and as Northside's Law was formulated to call out unprovable assertions of expertise or factual knowledge, so does Johnny's Rule seek to call b.s. on sloppy, fatally flawed discussion points that are the obvious result of not reading closely.

I call it a rule, not a law, because it's an observation, not a theory that empirical research might disprove. Godwin's Law says Hitler or Nazi analogies become more likely as a discussion grows longer. Well, that may be true...but empirical research might show it has nothing to do with the LENGTH of the conversation, rather that certain keywords tend to incite shallow thinkers to make their ridiculous Hitler comparisons. Godwin's Law is an observation (yes) but his theory is based on the length of the internet conversation.

Unlike Godwin, I am not theorizing about when it happens, or what causes it to happen. I'm just saying it happens and it drags down the intellectual level of internet conversation, and so when it happens, please cite "Johnny's Rule" accordingly.

Here is the rule:

WHEN somebody gets on the internet, whether anonymous or identifiable, and makes an assertion that clearly and obviously shows they didn't closely read the original point before commenting because clearly they missed something, THEN that person has violated Johnny's Rule.

The fact that person missed something should be quite clear and obvious. This rule is not to be applied in gray areas, but rather to fairly obvious examples of not reading something closely before commenting. The comment should be OBVIOUSLY FLAWED because of whatever was missed. Merely addressing one part of an argument and ignoring the rest is not a violation of Johnny's Rule.

Also, merely making a flawed or shallow argument is not a violation of Johnny's Rule. (Though heaven knows it might violate Godwin's Law)

No, rather Johnny's Rule is violated solely when somebody makes a comment that obviously, painfully makes it apparent they didn't read closely and therefore missed something important, and if they'd bothered to read more closely, they wouldn't have made the point they made the way they made it.

WHEN THAT HAPPENS...

UNTIL the person in question makes a plausible explanation why he/she made a flawed point that makes it appear like they didn't read closely, or (better yet) 'fesses up how they didn't read closely before making their obviously flawed point, everybody is justifiably free to assume the commenter has glaring holes in their thinking and analyzing habits and nothing they've said in that conversation should be given very much regard.

Helpful humanitarian advice to take Attention Deficit Disorder medication, or to seek medication for what may be an undiagnosed issue, can be freely given.

Yes, some slack is built into the law to address the possibility of, for example, reading but simply not understanding, like when there is legal or technical language. Somebody accused of violating Johnny's Rule might say, "Sorry, I thought 'malice' meant a feeling of strong dislike, not the legal meaning of 'reckless disregard for the truth,' or I wouldn't have made my point that way."

Furthermore, Johnny's Rule only applies to THAT CONVERSATION. Anybody might have an off day, an off moment, or literally skip taking their ADD medication. It doesn't mean they are a flawed thinker ALL THE TIME. Furthermore, by embracing the law and admitting violating it, the commenter in question is put on notice to read more closely. So what they say from that point forward will hopefully have more value.

But, despite kindness and slack built into the Rule, Johnny's Rule exists to point out something STUPID was just said, and this STUPID THING exists in an IDENTIFIABLE, LABELED AND EASILY CITED SPECIFIC CATEGORY OF STUPID.

Former Missing "Milk Carton Child" Shavontae McClinton Now Allegedly Engaged In Prostitution...

Shavontae Latrese McClinton, DOB 6/30/91, was in the Hennepin County Jail on April 17, her arrest stemming from prostitution charges. When the roster says the reason for the arrest is "commitment," it may be an arrest that stems from old charges, and that is the case here. McClinton was released from jail the next day but her old roster information lingers in the system a moment long enough for me to capture it.

Sadly, some years ago McClinton was a "milk carton child," one of those missing children whose vital info and faces appear in various places, hoping some concerned citizen will recognize them and call an 800 number...


The fact this is the same McClinton can be confirmed by the fact she has the same birthday.

McClinton's vital information on her online missing child poster mentions a tattoo of the letter "L" on her left bicep, and the fact her nickname is "Tae." McClinton was a resident of St. Paul at the time she went missing but now reportedly resides in North Minneapolis. Online info about her disappearance confirms she was recovered, and yet the old info lingers on the internet.

On the jailhouse roster, McClinton's address is listed as "3307 Girard Ave." That really should say "Girard Ave. N.," a fact I've confirmed with an online search of property records. The address in question is a rental owned by Allen W. Giese, 9551 Marshall Rd, Eden Prairie, MN.

I do not have information about where the alleged acts of prostitution were committed.

Mug Shot For Derrick Trevor Griffin, Northside Minister Doing Life Without Parole, Goodbye To The "Golden Mugshot Era" On Johnny Northside, Hello Mugshots Dot Com...

Derrick Trevor Griffin was the North Minneapolis minister who shocked an almost unshockable neighborhood when he murdered Kris Miller, the result of a love triangle and a fit of jealousy according to the theory of Hennepin County prosecutors. Click here for article.

And here is his mugshot, taken around his admit date of March 29. Look closely. I believe you can see tears in the eyes of Griffin as the reality hits him: "This is the prison mug shot ceremony. Soon after taking my picture they will escort me to a cell where I will spend the rest of my life."

It's tragic. And I have to wonder how a man who kills another man in a fit of jealousy over an estranged wife goes to jail for life, while somebody like Marlon Alexaxandro Lozano-Montano, who paralyzed a 12-year-old child in a drive by shooting, receives only 13 years in prison. The young woman, who is now 13, will be around 26 years old when her shooter is released. She will have many years to live with the knowledge that her shooter is running around on two good legs, living his life.

Well, I suppose there is no perfect way to sentence wrongdoing. Better not to engage in the wrongdoing that requires the sentence.

Now, a word about publishing mugshots.

For a long time, this blogger has performed a very simple public service of making mugshots available online. You see, the online "offender locator" at the Minnesota Department of Corrections isn't "crawled by Googlebots" and so these documents have to be more or less pried loose and put on the internet.

Why a public website paid for with tax dollars would have data deliberately made inaccessible to search engine programs is a whole 'nuther debate.

However...


...for a few years, this blog has filled the gap between so-called public data versus actual public knowledge and easy access. I have done this simply by seeking out and publishing the mugshots in question.

Because of what I do, anybody searching Google for "images" can easily turn up (for example) Derrick Trevor Griffin, instead of having to laboriously seek out the image by going to the MN DOC offender locator, if they even KNOW to go there.

So I do the digging and my audience has convenient access to the info. It's why I'm here. It's why this blog exists, to disseminate Northside information and (to a lesser extent) opinion under the broad banner of neighborhood revitalization.

Sometimes I've done blog posts which simply say, "Here is the mug shot for so-and-so, who was recently imprisoned. Here's what (fill in the blank) looked like when booked into prison."

I feel these simple images are informative, as together we try to "read the face" in a very primal and human way. So for a couple years, it was socially useful to write blog postings saying, more or less, "Here is the mug shot."

However, recently online sites like "Mug Shots Dot Com" have begun to publish these images systematically. I do not do business in the same way as these sites. I don't offer to take down the mug shot for money. I have some severe reservations about Mug Shots Dot Com and similar sites, but the fact is they've eaten a portion of my lunch just like I try to "eat the lunch" of mainstream media by digging deeper, by obtaining facts they don't have.

Ah, well. It's one big "media ecosystem" and we all evolve or die.

Thanks to Mugshots.com, I can no longer be the one who says, "Here's the mug shot, behold, for the first time made public and accessible to easy online searches."

Heck, even if I get the mug shot more quickly, what's the point? Mugshots.com will get it EVENTUALLY and their search results will score higher on Google because they are, like, AN EMPIRE devoted to this ONE SPECIFIC FORM OF INFO.

Obviously, I will still use mug shots (taken directly from MN DOC or similar public sources, not Mug Shots Dot Com) to illustrate blog postings touching upon a particular person's crimes. But this mug shot for Derrick Trevor Griffin will be the very last Johnny Northside "here is the mug shot, behold" posting.

Something very similar is happening with jailhouse roster data and one day in the foreseeable future it won't be necessary for me to post the unedited, raw roster data, click here for that discussion.

Despite reservations about how these sites do business, I actually welcome these developments. Publishing mugshots and raw jailhouse roster data is a somewhat mechanical process, not terribly fun or creative, merely necessary...like when print media in a small town publishes the "police blotter." But I prefer to dig deeply into the data, match it with other data, and publish stories derived from that process, i.e. "Jailhouse Roster nuggets," click for an example.

Sigh. It's the end of an era that I didn't even know we were in. Stop and enjoy today's music, my friends, one day they'll be playing it on a golden oldie channel.

Weapons Charges, A Predatory Offender, Drug Sales And More On Jailhouse Roster Nuggets!

Daymon Christopher Holley-Long, DOB 8/10/88, has been formally charged with weapons charges according to the Hennepin County sheriff's jail roster, and cools his heels in jail with bail set at $10,000.

I am unable to find any other criminal data about Mr. Holley-Long, but the online court records website seems to dislike hyphenated names and I feel its virtual pain.

Holley-Long reportedly lives at 1311 Morgan Ave. N., a homestead owned by Patricia L. Anderson.

...2421 Thomas Ave. N., a rental owned by Farzana Khan of 8403 Zanzibar La N Maple Grove, Minnesota. However, other Minneapolis rental information found online lists his address as 966 44 1/2 NE. There is an "M Khan" listed who uses the same address.

M Khan? Could it be? Could it be MAHMOOD KHAN, lord of slumlords?

Other info found online tells me "M Khan" might stand for "Mohd Khan." And I have to wonder, well, is that Mahmood Khan or not?

In checking into the court records of Howell, I can see a raft of various charges including a conviction for terroristic threats, but nothing that looks like it would make him a "predatory offender."

Patrick Bouvier Hunter, 10/18/63, has been formally charged on controlled substance/narcotics, released on no bail. It's sad, because his previous criminal record shows only a conviction for driving without insurance.

Hunter reportedly lives at 1515 Plymouth Ave. N. This address is under the "master address" of 1501 Plymouth Ave. N. The owner is listed as the Plymouth Townhouse Apt Assoc, and the taxpayer is Fannie Mae. It is a rental.

Shannon Lamonte Jackson, DOB 3/27/71, is sitting in jail right now due to drug charges. However, this incarceration appears to be the result of charges from early March of 2011. Shannon is facing 72 months in prison in St. Cloud, but the good news is he gets credit for one day served.

Jackson lists his address as 1516 Plymouth Ave. N., a rental with the taxpayer listed as Legacy Village Townhomes, the owner listed as (once again, as above) the Plymouth Townhouse Apt Assn.

Shawn Lee Jackson, DOB 3/7/89, is formally charged with burglary and sits in jail with a $60,000 bail. His address, according to the jail roster, is 3102 Fremont Ave. N. This is the same address listed by predatory offender Jamal Lee Brown, mentioned in a previous jailhouse nugget blog posting, click here.

Jatez Jeffrey Deondre Jacobs, DOB 5/12/93, is charged with giving a false name and simple robbery. The arrest on the simple robbery charge is the result of a bench warrant.

Jacobs lists has address as 1608 Lyn Curve Ave. N., a homestead owned by Ras D. Wooten.

Wooten sounds like an interesting character, judging by the fact he fought a conviction for refusing to submit to a chemical test, took it to the Minnesota Court of Appeals, and won, click here for that case. His attorney was Larry Reed, the same guy who defended convicted mortgage fraudster Larry "Maximum" Maxwell.

Dexter Lamar Johnson, 2/16/72, is awaiting court hearings that won't take place until May 14 in regard to two felony warrants from the Brooklyn Park police department, one for promoting prostitution, one for engaging in sex trafficking of an individual under 18, all this ever-so-allegedly. Johnson has already been convicted of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. His bail is currently $100,000.

Johnson's home address on the jail roster is 4527 Bryant Ave. N., an address associated with mortgage fraud by Susan Newell and Ed Boler. The owner is Adetola Gill, of the same address.

That's enough roster nuggets for now, but as Scarlet O'Hara said, "Tomorrow...is another day!"

Xia NMN Her-Xiong Of North Minneapolis Allegedly Stole An MPD "Bait Car"...

Only the other day I was talking to a friend of mine, trying to figure out how somebody could (purely in theory!) cheaply build their own "bait car" and take neighborhood watch TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

Part of what sparked the discussion was my impression the Minneapolis Police Department (god bless them) doesn't utilize bait cars enough.

Well, I was mistaken. They sure do utilize bait cars. And one of those cars allegedly snared a guy named Xia NMN Her-Xiong, who reportedly resides at 2313 Dupont Ave. N. That's his address on the jail roster, but on the criminal complaint his address is 1030 Morgan Ave. N.

A search online turned up the actual criminal complaint filed by the Hennepin County Attorney, rich with juicy detail...


However, the complaint is from 2009. A trial was held and Her-Xiong was found guilty of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Now there has been a "probation violation" on that old charge, and the date the "probation violation" came to the attention of the courts (3/21/12) is a few days after Her-Xiong landed in jail, again. (3/18/12) He has also been convicted in the past on drug charges.

Her-Xiong currently faces court hearings on two possible drug charges, receiving stolen property, and possession of burglary tools. There's information in the roster about taking a motor vehicle, but it's not clear to me whether that represents a new charge or just being held on the alleged probation violation for that old conviction.

In any case, the 2009 bait car incident is of interest and revealing about how MPD uses this crime fighting tool.

According to Officer Wayne Johnson of MPD, on April 20, 2009, officers were reported to a bait car activation. The car had been parked on Irving Ave. N. at at Oak Park Av. The location of the bait car was, of course, based on auto theft data from that area.

An officer located the bait car at 8th Ave. N. and Irving Ave. N. and saw a male exit the vehicle. Xia Her-Xiong was identified as the male. The keys were found in plain view on the front passenger side floor.

And it was all caught on video.

Yeah, it's a TERRIBLE idea to steal a car in North Minneapolis. It could be a BAIT CAR.

Alleged Brooklyn Park Murderer Dymond Rene Hayden Is (Apparently) A Resident Of North Minneapolis...

Dymond Rene Hayden, DOB 5/27/92, who is a male despite having what sure looks like a "chick name," sits in the Hennepin County Jail, charged with a murder in Brooklyn Park. The victim was his girlfriend, Ashantai Nicole Finch.

The murder, reportedly a domestic homicide, has received mainstream media coverage, click here for example. Here is another example, click here. 

(Is his name pronounced like "diamond?" Or like "almond?" How could you KNOW just by looking at it? It looks like a STRIPPER name! Like, you'd plug the name into one of those online sites to find out "what is your stripper name" and it would come back "You already HAVE a stripper name!")

Hayden's address on the jail roster is 3014 Humboldt Ave. N., a rental owned by Leif Ueland of 3010 Humboldt Ave. N.

Dymond (god, that NAME!) has a previous conviction for carrying a pistol without a permit. (Where? In his garter at the strip club?)

There was a sentencing order on March 7 of this year. A criminal judgment and warrant of commitment the same day. There is a notation of "returned mail" on March 19. He was sentenced to a year but only required to serve 30 days. The time could be served as electronic home monitoring or work release "if eligible." Looks like he received two years of probation so would have been on probation when he murdered this woman.

Note that I didn't use the word "allegedly." Yeah, the facts in this are so egregious and so well documented I decided to be edgy and drop the word "allegedly," just to be different. Sue me, Dymond, with your big bad stripper name.

Supervised Release Isn't Working Out So Well As Ronald Desean Harris Is Arrested On A Raft Of Charges...

Ronald Desean Harris, DOB 2/28/87, sits in jail this moment, facing pending charges from the Plymouth Police Department, the Minnetonka Police Department, and the Washington County Sheriff's Office. His court hearings on the charges are on April 24.

One of the potential charges is burglary, another is possessing burglary tools, another is receiving stolen property.

Good thinking, Harris. If you're going to (allegedly) burglarize people, go where they have GOOD STUFF! Plymouth, baby!

Harris was already on supervised release in Carver County, and his mug shot can be found on the Minnesota Department of Corrections website offender locator.

Harris reportedly lives at 3306 Bryant Ave. N., a rental property owned by Charlene T. Erickson, whose address is listed as 1709 Lyn Curve Ave. N, in North Minneapolis.

Andrew Dayjon Griffin, 3835 Washburn Ave. N., Beats Murder Charge But Goes Down For First Degree Assault...

I am beginning to really like that service called Jail Base Dot Com. When I search for any information about Andrew Dayjon Griffin, DOB 8/16/90, the ONLY thing coming up on the internet is the roster data, captured by Jail Base.

Though the roster lists "second degree murder" as a charge, a quick check of court records shows that charge was dropped. Griffin was, however, convicted on April 12 of First Degree Assault, Great Bodily Harm. A "Criminal Judgment and Warrant of Commitment" was issued the same day.

(Great bodily harm indeed. If there were murder charges, even charges that were dismissed, clearly SOMEBODY died. But who? And did it happen in North Minneapolis?)

Griffin's home address is listed as 3835 Washburn Ave. N., which is a rental owned by Steven D. Thompson of 426 Ridgeway Ct, St. Paul.

Predatory Offender Or Not? Steven Michael Gordon, 1815 Hillside Ave. North...

Steven Michael Gordon, DOB 5/29/82, was recently arrested on three domestic assault charges and failure to register as a predatory offender. He was formally charged for one of the domestic assaults, but the roster says "36 hours, expired" in regard to the "state of the charge" for (allegedly) failing to register as a predatory offender...


Like, what's up with THAT? He's sitting there in custody (as I write this) but because nobody charged him within 36 hours, he won't be charged? I say let the man go briefly and rearrest him in the freaking lobby of the jail, THEN charge him.

This man has an EXTENSIVE criminal record. Here it is, showing only charges and not the result of all the charges, some of which may have not resulted in convictions.

In regard to the charge of "Criminal Sex Conduct-3rd Degree-Victim 13-15 Actor greater than 24 months older," Gordon was found guilty. This happened in Goodhue County, and he was sentenced to prison for 18 months, credit for 157 days served. The sentencing took place in 2006.

Yeah, I'd say he's a predatory offender. And he should be required to register.

As for the address where Gordon reportedly lives, 1815 Hillside Ave. N., is owned by Proton Investments, a name that came up recently on another problem property.

Oh, also, isn't it funny how a sex offender who did his dirty deeds in Goodhue County somehow ends up in the 55411 zip code?

In the last year, an increasing number of internet entities are performing some of the same work accomplished by my periodic posting of the Hennepin County Jail Roster. For example, Jail Base Dot Com seems to be harvesting this data and putting it online. While performing a recent internet search on a guy named Steven Lamar Flowers, arrested for alleged DUI, I found his arrest on Jail Base Dot Com.

However, Jail Base Dot Com doesn't list the home address of the arrested parties. I'm not sure if this represents a deliberate policy by Jail Base, or if...

Maurice Lavelle Giles, DOB 3/5/72, lists his address as 610 Logan Ave. N., which is rather unfair to a lot of people...there are about a dozen apartments at that address, and the Hennepin County jailhouse roster isn't more specific about the PRECISE address of Mr. Giles.

Giles is charged with simple robbery and has been formally charged, bail set at $100,000.

He has, however, a truly epic criminal record. Here is all of Maurice's dirty laundry...


Keep in mind these are only criminal CHARGES. I'm sure he wasn't CONVICTED of all this stuff. However, rather than spending an inordinate amount of time analyzing the result of each charge, I think this information about charges will tell us everything we need to know about Maurice Giles.
