Source Tells JNS Blog About Aftermath Of The Nehemiah Steverson "Accidental" Shooting...

After this blog was told by an official source that no charges would be forthcoming in the shooting of Nehemiah Steverson, because the shooting had been ruled an "accident," information started coming my way about what happened after Steverson was shot...

A source well-connected to the community who I believe to be credible regarding this particular piece of info tells me the following:

There were at least two young men present at the shooting of Steverson, and one of them was the nephew of State Senator Bobby Joe Champion whose mother is Nona Champion. I do not have verification of the young man's name sufficient to satisfy my own blogging standards.

The two young men were escorted to the police station by a prominent member of the Twin Cities black community, Ron Edwards, to turn themselves in. I am told there was a lot of political pressure to make this (quote) "accidental murder" go away.

"One question that needs to be asked," says my source, is why was this young man so scared to walk down Lyndale Avenue North to his home? Why did he feel like he needed a gun?

I agree those are pretty good questions. I'm happy to print those questions. My source claims to have the answer but until I can get some further information I am reluctant to print everything my source is saying.

But this definitely seems like the kind of incident which could be made to "go away."
