Klaus Nomi was a singer with a wide vocal range and "otherworldly" stage persona. He died in 1983 at the age of 39 from complications due to AIDS.

While searching for information a couple years ago about the "Get to NoMi" neighborhood branding effort, I stumbled upon Klaus Nomi's music...

Brett Von Schlosser, Come Move to NoMi!

I got a few giggles from reading this Metro Magazine feature about an interesting Minneapolitan named Brett Von Schlosser, and surprisingly I noticed quite a few north Minneapolis connections in Brett's life.

Brett works at North Regional Library on Lowry Ave N.

He shops and grooves at So Low Grocery Outlet on Lowry and Emerson, too.

He enjoys hanging at Donnie Dirk's Zombie Den, a.k.a. DDZD, and he's an avid cyclist who can even fight off a handlebar attack.

So here's my plea to Brett:

Brett, darling, I can only imagine how delightful the Elmwood House in SoMi must be, but I feel you belong in NoMi we want you here in NoMi, we *need* you here in NoMi.  Just think, you can buy a grand old house in NoMi for pennies on the dollar and fix it up with all the obscure, interesting and down right weird features and fixtures you can stand. And then Metro Magazine can come and do another interesting feature of your new NoMi digs.

In closing, Mr. Von Schlosser, Get to NoMi!

Get to NoMi Home Buyers Tour on Sunday!

The last time we had a Get to NoMi home buyers tour, CM Hofstede read a mayoral proclamation of "Get to NoMi day." Here on Johnny Northside, we believe that EVERY DAY can be a Get to NoMi day. NoMi Realtors and others active in the Get to NoMi movement are keeping up their work in that same spirit.

On Sunday, April 11, another NoMi Home Buyers Tour will take place at the 42nd Avenue Station beginning at 11 a.m. Lists of homes can be picked up between 11 and 1, and homes are available to tour between noon and 3 p.m. According to the event's Facebook site, the number of homes on the tour currently stands at 40. The days of purchasing a $7,900 house may be gone, but prices range from a still affordable $59,000 to rather upscale $349,000.

There is no word whether the dinosaur by Ken Farkash will make an appearance.
