The Minnesota Court of Appeals recently ruled that "P.C.T.," a 16-year-old gang member, should be tried as an adult for a series of drive by shootings that left two people injured. The criminal complaint, available for the first time on JNS blog (click here for your own copy) involves a war between gangs known as the Taliban, YNT, Stick Up Boys and Skitz Squad.
The murder of Juwan Osborne (known as "Skitz") and the retaliatory house shooting that left 5-year-old Nizzel George dead were part of that gang war, as outlined in a Star Tribune article, click here.
The ruling by the State Court of Appeals strongly reversed a Hennepin County District Court ruling which determined Patrick Timberlake should NOT be tried as an adult. Word from a reliable source says this ruling is being appealed, presumably to the Minnesota State Supreme Court. But in the meantime, the criminal complaint became public and I obtained a copy. Both the complaint and the State Appeals Court ruling are full of details both informative and horrible about the North Minneapolis gang war which is littering our streets with dead.
I may follow up later and pull out these details. In the meantime, I would urge readers to check out both the criminal complaint and the court ruling.
