In February of 2013, this blogger announced that I would remove certain names, under certain limited conditions and for an administrative fee, from my popular jailhouse roster feature. At the same time I announced this was an experiment and if I didn't like how the experiment was going, I would end it.
I do not like how it is going. So I am ending it.
If circumstances change I might bring it back, who knows, but currently my position is JNS blog jailhouse roster information can stay on the internet until the Day of Judgment...just like it was before I made teeny weeny merciful exceptions.
For the record, I do not believe offering to remove information for an administrative fee is any form of "extortion," if the generation of such fees is not the primary purpose of the website. But even if fee generation is the primary purpose of a website, well, my jury is still out on the question of what's "extortion" in the internet age and I hope to editorialize about this topic in the near future.
Here's an interesting article from the LA Times on a similar subject, click here.
In the meantime, and in regard to time, TIME FLIES! It's been a while since I've published a jail roster! This lack of publication of jail rosters can be attributed to the ongoing effects of a First Amendment chill ray which has struck JNS blog and continues to have its impact, click here and here. Behind the scenes, JNS blog continues to wrestle with this issue.
But by golly I will be publishing a jail roster tomorrow, November 1, 2014 just in time to catch all the miscreants (ALLEGED miscreants) who take their trick-or-treating a little too far.
That roster will go all the way from March 4, 2014 to November 1, 2014. Many thousands of people who were in and out of jail were missed during that period of time, but those who made a staycation out of incarceration will finally see their info published.
That strange sound you just heard was a virtual herd of Google bots licking their little chops.
Be patient, little guys. One more day...
