Here Is The Criminal Complaint From The "Musical Diss" Shooting At Target Field, James Lamar Davis Convicted, Additional Details Revealed...

Mugshot, therefore public domain, Cortez
Blakemore, blog post by John Hoff

Click here for the criminal complaint.

Target Of A Shooting At Target Field

Pictured above, Cortez Blakemore, (DOB 04/07/1990) one of two men shot at Target Field in gang violence fueled by "disses" in online music videos. James Lamar Davis was recently convicted in the shooting, which also wounded Kibbie Shakeel Akbark Walker, a/k/a "Prince Kibbie."

Wrapping This Up Neatly With A Bloodstained Bow

JNS blog wrote extensively about this matter a few weeks ago, but just recently obtained a copy of the actual criminal complaint. Even when the Hennepin County Attorney triumphantly announced a conviction in this matter, a copy of the criminal complaint was not included with the online press release.

Hmmm. Odd.

Anyway, it is linked above and reveals...

...the convicted shooter, James Lamar Davis, lives at 6910 Humboldt Ave. N., an apartment complex owned by Carrington Drive LP. This fact represents a small trend--which I have pointed out with too much excitement, repeatedly--that both crime and where criminals live is moving out of North Minneapolis and into the "Two Brooklyns" of Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center.

Criminal No Accounts Welcome At Target Field?

The complaint document also reveals that Kibbie Walker and Cortez Blakemore had only been working at Target Field a short time. I will point out this is what happens when "ban the box" and other efforts to obtain and/or create "shovel ready" jobs for felons actually succeed: the felons bring their violent lifestyle issues to the literal front steps of the business in question, exactly as employers with good sense justifiably fear.

It's just dumb luck or the hand of God or (I hate to say it) a rare instance of good marksmanship by a thug that no innocent bystanders were hit, only the intended targets. Were these two hired by accident or is Target Field going out of its way to hire criminal no accounts? What happens when some family with kids out to see the ball game gets in the way of a shooter and his intended target working as a groundskeeper, dirty towel transporter, or purifier of unclean toilets?

Side issue. Moving on, folks, nothing more to see here...

Javon Leroi Davis a/k/a "JWeezy" a/k/a James Davis

The criminal complaint makes clear that Javon Leroi Davis is James Davis who is also "JWeezy." Why is he wheezy? Because he had to run all the way from Target Field to the Fifth Street Ramp!

This blog had the name "Javon Leroi Davis" in its virtual mouth some time back, when I published a May 5, 2014 press release by the Hennepin County Attorney on a comment stream, but seeing the name reminds me I haven't dug into this character. I did find a mugshot for him from 2011, click here, when he was accused of giving a police officer a false name and theft. (And really, what kind of fool would tell a cop his name was "JWeezy" and expect that would pass?) (Kidding, of course)

Well, the expression "a rap sheet as long as my arm" grows tiresome but I am at a loss for a better expression.

As long as---???

Fill in your own blank. Here's his rap sheet, and keep in mind not all these charges represent actual convictions. In fact, please note that today on MNCIS somehow I have pulled up actual dispositions of each charge! I think this might be a new thing with MNCIS and, well, I think it's a good thing.

Note how his two names are all entwined together in his record.

The last bunch of charges reveals a couple more variations on his name, as follows:

DefendantDAVIS, JAVON LEROI  Also Known As  DAVIS, JAMES LAMAR  Also Known As  DAVIS, JAVON LEROY  Also Known As  J, DAVIS XX  Also Known As  JAMES, JAVON LEROI

I think "J Davis XX" is my favorite of all his names. There is still $136.00 due and owed to the court system on that last charge. There is $135 due on the charge before THAT. And as for the charge third from the bottom, well, there is nothing due and owing quite yet...except time in prison. There will be a sentencing hearing on March 19 for, one would presume, violating terms of probation by shooting a dude at Target Field.

Next Father's Day In Prison

Davis has two child support cases with two different women listed on the civil side of MNCIS, 27-FA-12-3064 and 27-FA-12-3064. Full names are listed and it can be confirmed this is the same Davis. So at least two children will soon have a father in prison, even though Davis is still sitting in the county jail and not yet off to the big house.

The Eternal Conundrum Of The Judgment Proof Tortfeasor

In other MNCIS action on the civil side, the State Farm insurance company has a judgment against somebody named "Javon Davis" in the amount of $6,601.11 and the Javon Davis in question lives in the 55412 zip code, but more confirming information like a birthday is needed to really confirm it's the same guy. The $6K judgment is just as unpaid as those court fees.

The very same State Farm case appears to have been filed in Conciliation Court, twice, before it reached the District Court level. (That or State Farm has sued this guy two other times in Conciliation Court, but this seems unlikely) In one of the cases Davis (presumed but not confirmed 100 percent to be the same Javon Davis) had a co-defendant named Bianca F. Branch. This person is a pretty straight arrow with nothing but a couple of speeding tickets in the State of Minnesota.

Are You Now, Or Have You Ever Been, A YouTuber?

There are a couple interesting lines in the criminal complaint which reference the "YouTube video making fun of the death of Tyrone 'Ty Crack' Washington," and how one of the victims (that would be Kibbie Walker, not Cortez Blakemore) participated in the video. In fact, "Victim 2" (Mr. Kibbie Walker) even received a call from his girlfriend telling him to be careful leaving Target Field because members of the 19 Dipset gang were hanging around the Holiday Station nearby.

Either Kibbie wasn't careful enough, or the gang members who pulled off the hit (Javon Davis and, allegedly, Justin McGee) were already lying in wait or quite close by when Kibbie Walker and Cortez Blakemore left Target Field.

Oh, Yes, Justin McGee

Charges against McGee were dropped, according to a Sun Post article which cites a source with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office, Chuck Laszewski. I am not aware if McGee testified, but it's hardly unfair to assume something happened to get charges dropped when there was so much damning evidence. This is, quite possibly, a pristine real life example of "the prisoner's dilemma."

And so another man meets a horrible fate in the ongoing war over "disses" in music videos. But rap singer Mental Mid--the brains behind the lyrical operation--remains so far untouched and untouchable.

I agree with most of what you write but the ban the box comment you made is bogus. I'm a convicted felon....a violent offender as you would say. I got my felony because I made a phone call, violating a restraining order. Not a threatening call, just trying to get my son from his severly alcoholic mother. This was after me going into the Edina PD twice to try and get them to get me mg kid. They couldn't do anythjng. So the third time she was drunk, incoherent drunk, I called her 20 or so times to see if I could get my kid. She drove drunk to Edina PD and let the officer answer her cell. I told him to please breathalyzer her. He said no. I asked if he wanted me to come turn myself in. He said no he wohld submit it to the prosecutor. The reason there was a restraining order was because she lied and wanted me to be out of the house to drink. Two days after I violated the RO she got a DWI with my 18 month old in the car. I went to court for the violation and the prosecutor wanted to send me to prision for a year. It was take the felony or maybe lose and go to prision. Then she would be taking care of our son......drunk. There are 1,000's of people like me who couldn't afford a lawyer, had a lame public defender who was sucking off the prosecution and had a choice to make in a split second (thats all you get when you don't know the law or how court works). I work, make decent money, and have full custody of mh kid. I am self employed because nobody would hire me and I have been living at friends houses for 6 years because I can't get a apartment (unless I want to live in North Minneapolis). I can't get a mortgage because I have no credit, am a covicted felon (who has never been in prison) and I am self employed. Some of these shitty state programs are a lot of good peoples only hope.

If the restraining order said "Do not call this woman on the phone," why did you call her? Sounds like you have an excuse for all your bad lifestyle choices...which started with you impregnating this woman and not marrying her, which may not be illegal but...well, bad bad bad lifestyle choices.

If you are self-employed and make decent money, that's good. But don't tell me "ban the box" is helping society just because of YOUR story. If anything, your story proves the worth of having a box to check for being a felon so employers don't have to hear this sob story bundle of excuses for bad lifestyle choices.

I want to leave a link to this article here, which contains some of the most coherent and detailed explanations about the gang war which fueled this particular shooting.

God, you are a heartless SOB, John. This only proves that your opinions and writing and not informed by real life, but by your own personal demons and hatred for others not like yourself. You don't like this guy because, in his own way and on his own level, he is successful and has changed his life . . . something you have NEVER been able to do.

Ok then JH, how about my situation... I was an 18yr old hs senior and my gf was a 16 yr old hs junior. We ditched class and went to the auditorium to fool around. We got caught having sex by a teacher who then reported it to the police.

That was in 1996. It is now 2015, the "victim" has been my wife for many years.

I served my 365 days, I spent countless hours and dollars at project pathfinder sex treatment center...... Yet I still cannot be hired many places because of my status as a felon. Even funnier, I cannot coach my son's hockey team because of this.

It's a running joke in our house ... "Yeah my dad can't xyz because he raped my mom once".

Johnny Northside! said...

When you were 18 did you have no awareness that what you were doing was illegal?

The law is the law. You can lobby to have the law changed, you can try to get an expungement, and you can teach your son the rudiments of hockey at home since you can't be the coach.

Johnny Northside! said...

Wait, can you tell me who in this article is the "successful" person you're talking about?

Anonymous said...

That is correct, I did not know that was illegal.

I've followed your blog for a long time, and even contributed in the past. But seeing your take on this is disappointing and surprising and makes me likely to stop checking this blog much.

You obviously are more concerned with "the law is the law" than common sense and what might be in the best interest of society.

Society is in no way better having me disqualified for jobs and other opportunities (coaching/school field trip chaperone). But if you as a taxpayer are fine with government spending so much $$ on me (incarceration, sex offender treatment, intense supervision, etc)....

Still, to this day, the govt is spending money to keep up my predatory offender record. You think that makes sense? 20 years after an 18 year old got busy with a 16 yr old? It's your taxpayers money man, spend it how you want. And after enough job rejections, then comes the food support that you will also be paying for.

That makes no sense John.

You reap what you sow, bitches, and quit blaming others for your fucking lame ass bad choices you made and quit trying to define shit in fantastical ways... you idiots need to take a step back and swallow a dose of reality. Long live the box!!!!

See this is why people end up dead. You are publishing shit and don't even know all the damn facts. You wanna call people a snitch and have no idea what your talks about. Obviously they had evidence on the one who was convicted and not the one who wasn't. People don't have to snitch to get charges dropped its called having a good lawyer do their fucking job and show whose innocent and whose not. You take bits and pieces and try and form your own story instead of waiting for all the facts and know what's going on. Yall place this mans home address on here and who knows if his kids live there or not and now you have opened it up for a home invasion of a drive by shooting that could kill his kids who has nothing to do with this. This is a sick ass world where people have no common sense whatsoever. Put this man in jail for x amount of years and then get his family killed. Yeah that's really smart. Way to go.....

Johnny Northside! said...

The criminal complaint, address and all, is a public document and contains enough facts and allegations from the prosecutors office to be worth publishing.

Johnny Northside! said...

The situation you describe is certainly on the low end of situations I would care about. And, personally, I believe that if people get married the statutory rape conviction should be expunged and treated in the law as a non-event.

But the law, while it is the law and hasn't yet been changed, is the law. And do I really want "open season" for all 18-year-olds on 16-year-olds by announcing there will be no prosecution for such things? Where would THAT end?

Anonymous said...

Well Justin McGee did in fact snitch/lie he testified against Davis to get the charges dropped even tho he knows Davis didn't do it. McGee and Davis weren't the shooters and they weren't even there. Davis has a bullet in his leg and can't run hell he can't even walk fast but he went down for this anyways because McGee was so scared of being wrongfully convicted that he testified with lies and sent an innocent man to jail. The prosecutor knows Davis didn't do this but they feel like he knows who did so they said they were gonna send him up for it if he didn't tell who did it.. Those are all FACTS

Anonymous said...

How about a forty something fucking a sixteen year old?.... Not in a position of authority are you? Numbers should not matter and the law does...and the law is fucked up. So your "open season" bullshit does not cut it and eighteen is no different than forty...fucked up shit.

Conviction in the "musical diss" shooting at Target Field, 28 years in prison for a 28-year-old shooter.

Davis sentenced to 28 years in prison for shooting outside Target Field
James Davis was sentenced to more than 28 years in prison for shooting two men as they left Target Field, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Hennepin County District Court Judge Fred Karasov sentenced Davis, 28, of Brooklyn Center to 186 months in prison for shooting Kibbie Walker. He then sentenced him to 153 months for shooting Cortez Blakemore and ordered that the sentences be served consecutively, for a total of 339 months.

Davis’ Thursday morning sentence came after a jury found him guilty last month of two counts of attempted murder for the benefit of a gang.

According to the criminal complaint, Walker and Blakemore were leaving their new job cleaning up after a Twins night game just before 3 a.m. on April 12. As they were walking out of the left field gate, three men in hooded sweatshirts came up to them and began shooting. Blakemore was seriously injured when a bullet hit his spinal cord.

The complaint, and testimony during the trial, indicated that this was a feud between two gangs. Davis is a member of the 1-9s and Walker is a member of the Taliban. Walker admitted to police that he made a YouTube video making fun of the shooting death at the Epic Nightclub of 1-9s leader Tyrone Washington.

I have a similar situation where I was 18 and she was 16. I have the label as well as a result.
I have money and want to get a good lawyer to challenge the system. I just wish I could hire you Johnny Northside to represent me.
I wish you were a lawyer.
