Progress In The Hawthorne EcoVillage, House Goes Up At 3016 6th St. N., GEE THAT ADDRESS SEEMS FAMILIAR...

Photo, blog post by John Hoff

The history of 3016 6th St. N. is intimately entangled with the history of this blogger. In short, after I purchased beat up little house on that property I found out I was standing right in the path of a visionary neighborhood development project. So I sold the house at 3016 6th St. N. and I bought another house, click here.

The house at 3016 6th St. N. was demolished and a vacant lot was there for a long time. But now, finally, a house is going up at that spot...

Landscaping At 3016 6th St. N...

The same individuals who are knocking down 3018 4th St. N. appear to be involved with the recent demolition of my former property at 3016 6th St. N. With the house debri removed, it appears landscaping is beginning, bit by bit. The drumbeat of revitalization fills NoMi with the sound of clanking backhoe treads.

Will anything be SAVED?

OK, actually, I'll ask that question another time when I'm actually worried. This little house had to go, and everybody was better off for the deal. Maybe I should give real estate advice to Lennie Chism.

More Images: 3016 6th St. N. Goes Down, Eco Village Revitalization Marches Forward...

by Jordan Neighbor

The JNS International Headquarters has received more images of unstoppable Eco Village Revitalization from JNS Field Correspondent, Jeff Skrenes, Hawthorne Housing Director.

3016 6th St N sacrificed its life for the Eco Village revitalization, as discussed in this previous post. Here are more images of the sacrifice that took place without the usual ceremony of cigars and champagne bottles. This was not a celebratory demolition but its significance is none the less. 3016, you were a great house to lord knows how many. You will be forever memorialized here.

3016 6th St. N. Goes Down, Eco Village Revitalization Marches Forward...

Photos By John Hoff

Word comes that the property I used to own at 3016 6th St. N. was demolished today by a backhoe, and I wasn't even there to see the end of the little house that served me so well, sacrificed for the greater good of the Eco Village cluster project.

Hawthorne Housing Director Jeff Skrenes reportedly got some pictures, maybe even video, so I'll get that stuff up when I can. These are pictures I took some days ago, when the backhoe was just parked for days on end. It appears a tree in my (former) back yard was slightly damaged during the digging out of utilities, but I'm sure the tree will heal.

In the meantime, here's a little tribute to my old house, and the history it witnessed.

416 30th Ave. N. Goes Down...3016 6th St. N. Faces Backhoe Of Doom...

Photos By John Hoff

Back from my road trip "east bound and down" to Kentucky, loaded with cargo and tales from the road, it was no surprise to me that my NoMi neighborhood didn't remain stagnant while I was away but kept changing while my back was turned.

Two of the most notable changes: 416 30th Ave. N. has become a vacant lot. This is the house which once stole my electricity when I owned 3016 6th St. N. As for 3016, which I sold to the City of Minneapolis to assist in the development of the Eco Village cluster project...

Now there is a backhoe parked in the front yard of 3016 6th St. N. and the demolition of the house can be measured in days at the most, but possibly mere hours and minutes. Both these properties are located in the Eco Village cluster project, which was once the most crime-ridden part of the Hawthorne Neighborhood. Now crime there has dropped to virtually nothing and numerous crappy properties have been demolished...a pattern replicated throughout North Minneapolis, a rapidly-revitalizing area recently named the city's hottest "gayborhood" by Lavender Magazine.

The photos above show 3016 6th St. N. awaiting demolition, and 416 30th Ave. N. as a field of gently-laid straw, ah.
