Suspect In Homicide No. 30 Arrested At A Mahmood Khan Property!!!

Post and photos by the Hawthorne Hawkman

The Minneapolis Crime Watch Blog posted an update on the arrest of a suspect in the recent shooting at the Old Colony gas station (commonly referred to as "The Honeybee" in NoMi). It listed the address where Ryedelle Reginald Loving was arrested as 315 Buchanan St NE.

"Wait a minute," I thought. "I KNOW that property." It was the leadoff property in the Johnny Northside post detailing Mahmood Khan's slumpire.

(Do not click "Read More," but do question the connection between notorious slumlords' rental standards and our city's homicides. Remember, at a McKinley meeting, Khan was evasive about his tenant screening process before admitting that he has no outside management company that screens tenants for him.)

I was at that meeting and am shocked that someone like this would reside in a Khan property---oh wait, I'm not!!!

Would it be redundant to ask members of the city council to get off their coiffed asses and work?

Anony. 9:58 AM: You might want to read more Johnny Northside to find suggestions that are repeated over and over again. Apparently it is redundant!

What delicious siding that home sports! Menards vinyl is SO the new clapboard!

How much longer before city and state officials see the correlation between large tracts of substandard housing and crime?

Possible solutions - Rental property limits, Inspections of properties funded by entitlement, Increased inspections and law enforcement presence in existing high rental zones including regular foot patrols!

Along the lines of what Folwell said, how many times has it been mentioned on this blog that there is a need to be able to search for properties by owner's name? Is there any forward movement occurring with this issue? With this one tool, neighborhoods could begin to identify problems before they reach the magnitude of "slumpires."

What's wrong with the siding? It's maintenance free so it won't deteroriate like much of the siding I see on all the old vacant and many times owner occupied properties in NOMI. Seems folks don't want to spring for paint and siding on homes worth $30k so they literally let it rot off the sides.
