Thomas Wayne Evenstad, the infamous "chat line rapist" who was involved, of late, with bizarre and colorful online activities (some of which swirled around his rape conviction and long incarceration at a facility for sex offenders, some of which did not) is sitting in jail this moment charged with two counts of terroristic threats, one count of falsely reporting police misconduct and (my personal favorite!) CRIMINAL DEFAMATION...
An anonymous commenter drew this to my attention. Apologies to readers that this blog hasn't been too busy in the last few days, sometimes I simply have to deal with my personal life and/or make some money.
Anyway, here's all that Evenstad is charged with:
1/1 TERRORISTIC THREATS HCSO PROBABLE CAUSE PROB CAUSE FORMALLY CHARGED $50,000 BAIL REVISED/DC 3/18/2014..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address
1/2 TERRORISTIC THREATS-RECKLESS DISREGARD RISK HCSO PROBABLE CAUSE FELONY $0 3/18/2014..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address 1/3 TERRORISTIC THREATS-RECKLESS DISREGARD RISK HCSO PROBABLE CAUSE FELONY $0 3/18/2014..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/2 CRIMINAL DEFAMATION-ACTS HCSO WARRANT GROSS MISD $0 3/18/2014..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address
These charges almost certainly stem from Evenstad's energetic blogging activities. In recent months he has repeatedly asserted the people who put him away in jail for rape, including the victim, lied about him. (JNS blog believes no such thing and repeats these assertions only for their news value)
Evenstad has repeatedly used his rape victim's name in scary online rantings. And, incredibly, some days ago (in a development this blogger didn't have time to report) Evenstad sued president Obama over our nation's marijuana laws in federal court.
Lately, Evenstad has been jumping on the pro-marijuana legalization movement; no doubt to the detriment of that movement, which contains many bright and sensible people and seems to be the inevitable legal and social trend.
Evenstad was the former paralegal for Jill Clark, an attorney whose law license was suspended due to being under a psychological disability; but not before she had terrorized many good citizens of North Minneapolis with failed and flimsy lawsuits; the purpose of which was clearly more political than legal.
During the "True JACC" trial on the issue of which faction was the legal and duly elected leadership of the Jordan Area Community Council, Evenstad was Clark's paralegal. Subsequently, this blogger learned the incredible backstory about Evenstad: he's an infamous rapist whose victims were culled from conversations on chat lines, therefore I dubbed him "the chat line rapist" and (like many of the nicknames coined by this blog) it sort of stuck.
So that was how Evenstad came to the attention of this blog and became the subject of blog coverage, even though he is not a resident of North Minneapolis and his doings were peripheral to North Minneapolis.
There were times in the past, before Evenstad went on a sort of unchecked internet rampage, when he seemed like a sensible person with an interesting point of view and I was able to correspond with him. But it could be said Evenstad "turned to the dark side," if indeed Evenstad was ever outside of the dark side.
One internet correspondent (who shall remain anonymous) has been continuously updating JNS blog on the doings of Evenstad by email and, it must be said, constantly predicting a day like this. In recent months this blog made a deliberate choice to taper down my coverage of Evenstad's doings, deciding I would stay clear of his inevitable self-destruction so I wouldn't have to, for example, waste my time testifying.
Since my anonymous correspondent has followed Evenstad's virtual paper trial must more closely than I have, I would urge my correspondent to update all of us on Evenstad's doings. I will try to share my copy of Evenstad's lawsuit against President Obama in the near future.
Oh, and incredibly, last I heard Evenstad actually had a lawsuit going against the Minnesota Department of Corrections over the way he was treated while incarcerated. To the jailers of Hennepin County I give this advice: Evenstad loves to file lawsuits, so be sure you don't short him the raisins on his oatmeal.
