One week ago, I had word that Tom Evenstad, the "chatline rapist" now charged with new and shocking crimes, was NOT being held in Regions Hospital. At least one informed source I spoke to was under the impression Evenstad was no longer committed and would be returning to the Ramsey County Jail.

The information Evenstad was no longer at Regions was good. But it turns out that fact did NOT actually end the mental commitment. 

The latest word I'm hearing right now from a different source is...

Despite a mental commitment proceeding that could have put Thomas Evenstad under the observation of health care professionals for as long as six months, click here for previous article, today JNS blog learned from a reliable source of information that Evenstad has been released from the secure facility at Regions Hospital and he's back in jail. 

I don't have any further information than THAT, but from this info it might be inferred, reasonably, that...

ADDENDUM, APRIL 21: The commitment in question didn't last a week, let alone six months, see story published today, April 21. 

JNS blog doesn't like to merely re-report a story in the mainstream media, even though I had the story about mental commitment hearings for "chatline rapist" Thomas Evenstad all to myself for a couple days. But now at least one mainstream media entity has jumped back into the fray and reported the sudden development of Thomas Evenstad being mentally committed for six months, click here for an excellent and detailed article in the Pioneer Press.

Mainstream media found Thomas Evenstad interesting right after his arrest for terrorizing, allegedly, the wives of two high-ranking public officials. Evenstad then faced further charges of criminal defamation against a police officer. Mainstream media were going crazy a couple weeks ago to report on the arrest of Thomas Evenstad, a convicted rapist who found his victims on chatlines and did a lot of hard time for that. Now running around loose in the world, Tom has been telling the whole world he's not a psycho rapist. One way he's been trying to prove his point is to trash his victims online and also to show up, terrifyingly, at the homes of two public officials when only their wives were home. 

That last bit of lunacy caused Tom to be arrested and charged with terroristic threats and then (while he was sitting in jail) Tom was charged with criminal defamation of a police officer, who Tom falsely labeled a "rapist." 

Did mainstream media follow up on the story? 

No.

JNS blog was interested in "Chatline Rapist" Tom Evenstad years before the mainstream media became interested in him...or shall I say "re-interested" in Evenstad, because obviously there was media interest around the time of Evenstad's rape conviction, but nobody except this blog followed Evenstad's release and subsequent reappearance as a paralegal for attorney Jill Clark prior to her dramatic suspension from the practice of law.

Now the mainstream media have reported the recent shocking allegations of terroristic threats against the wives of public officials but these media seem to have rather quickly moved on to other stories.

Their coverage is a mile wide but an inch deep. Well, JNS blog wants to get to the bottom of what happened, here...

Somebody (I won't say who, exactly) has been kicking juicy info my way about Thomas Wayne Evenstad, the convicted "chat line rapist" who now roams our streets, free as a bird. Notorious legal loon Jill Eleanor Clark was his attorney and helped to free him before she lost her mind, her law license, and the appeal in Moore v. Hoff; the Blogosphere Trial of the Century. Later, during the "True JACC" civil case, Evenstad worked for Clark as a paralegal.

Anyway, I was told that Evenstad's recent habit of clogging the courts with pointless legal actions is not a new development; but rather his habit of being grit in the gears of the judicial system goes back quite a ways. As evidence of that, check out...

Tom Evenstad, who can be fairly and accurately described as "convicted of being the Chat Line Rapist, yet never wavering in his assertions of innocence," recently sent me a series of emails.

I've already written about the "basis of our sick relationship" (click here) and how (incredible as it may sound) I periodically exchange emails with Tom Evenstad.

Yes, the very same Tom Evenstad who has published threats on his blog to sue me, who called up my lawyer Paul Godfread and hinted he would sue me, who once worked for Jill Clark as a beltless paralegal beta male, and who appears to spend a great deal of his life going to little committees about the topic of sex offenders, regarding which he knows a great deal.

Tom Evenstad, convicted of being the "chat line rapist" years ago, his conviction upheld by court appeals (yet never faltering in his protestations of innocence) has filed a lawsuit against the Minnesota Sex Offender Program, as this blog previously reported.

Evenstad is in email contact with this blogger though the tone of our conversation is not always friendly. All the same, no other media entity seems interested in Evenstad's lawsuit and Evensted seems determined to disseminate information about his lawsuit. And that's what I do, after all, I obtain interesting facts and publish those facts.

So there you have it. The basis of our sick, abusive relationship...

Lawsuit In Progress By Thomas Wayne Evenstad Against State Sex Offender Treatment Program...

Thomas Wayne Evenstad, who managed to get himself released from Minnesota's sex offender treatment program with help from attorney Jill Clark, has either filed or is soon planning to file a lengthy lawsuit against individuals in the state's sex offender treatment program.

This is apparently the way Evenstad tells the world "Merry Christmas." A cursory reading of the complaint reminds me of a kind of prison journal of grievances; a petty manifesto of purported abuses, overly-specific documentation hoarded up for the sake of a naive, childlike estimation its alleged value like a collection of rusty, dinged-up Matchbox cars.

Clark's clients and former clients have not been doing well of late. I wouldn't bet against the trend with Evenstad and this document but in the meantime many trees will suffer.

My thanks to an anonymous commenter who dropped a little nugget of information about Thomas Wayne Evenstad, the convicted "chat line rapist" who is now running his own "consulting" enterprise to assist individuals detained under Sexual Violent Predator laws and (this is NOT written in the parody font) describes himself on Linked In as the inventor of a type of boxer shorts "perfect for men with light to moderate incontinence" as well as other medical issues. 

Evenstad first turned up in my world as a minor character dubbed "The Beltless Beta Male." He was a pleasant, overly-smiling assistant to notoriously loony attorney Jill Clark during the "True JACC" case involving leadership of the Jordan Area Community Council. One day Evenstad appeared in court without a belt and kept hitching up his pants like Gomer Pyle. Due to his bowing and scraping deference to Jill Clark plus his aforementioned beltlessness, I dubbed him the "Beltless Beta Male" and the nickname stuck, as my nicknames often do.

Wouldn't I just love to tell you all about Thomas Wayne Evanstad, the chat line rapist, and where he has ended up! First, let's familiarize ourselves with this smiling, pleasant-faced creep, whose crimes at the end of the 1990s surely must have spread fear through the ranks of female chat line users throughout Minnesota, if not the Midwest or the nation. Thank god internet dating sites are now more popular than chat lines and we're all much safer. (Sarcasm font)

This appeal, linked below, provides a good overview of what Evanstad did. An 18-year-old female met Evanstad through a "chat line" service. Evanstad picked up the young woman at her aunt's house, took her to his own house, and raped her. Taking matters into her own hands, performing her own investigation (this is so often how something gets ACCOMPLISHED in the criminal justice system) the victim contacted other women on the chat line and found two other victims who were willing to testify in regard to "sexual misconduct" by Evanstad.

An Eden Prairie man raped a woman he met through a telephone chat line, a jury decided Friday in Hennepin County.

Thomas W. Evenstad, 33, had claimed that the sexual activity was consensual. The jury deliberated about five hours before convicting him of first- and third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

District Judge Francis Connolly will sentence Evenstad on April 16. Sentencing guidelines recommend a prison term of at least seven years.

The woman reported in January 1998 that she had been assaulted. The assault happened sometime between Oct. 25, 1997, and Nov. 18, 1997, in Evenstad's home. He lived in Richfield at the time.

So! Wow, wouldn't I love to tell readers more. I think readers in North Minneapolis have a right to know the infamous "chat line rapist" is out of prison, and from time to time he has performed duties which (I assert) touch upon controversial, newsworthy issues in North Minneapolis politics. Though not exactly upon the center stage, he has been near the stage playing a visible role as certain Northside dramas proceed.

If I were free to do so, I might even cite facts I know about and then wonder aloud--not without firm basis--whether in the course of his duties Evanstad may have reason to come into contact or close proximity with other sex offenders and then--the next leap is rather logical--wonder whether that's really ALLOWED, whether or not his "supervised release" conditions might prohibit that?

Yeah, I'd like to write all that stuff. But the simple fact is this blog is under an intense legal attack which has gotten the attention of lawyers all over this nation and--using my best judgment, here--discretion seems the better part of valor for the time being. So I'm throwing some information out, but it's all very PUBLIC information and the rest is vague, oh so vague, and speculative, and hypothetical.

So here's the deal. If any commenter--not an ANONYMOUS commenter, but a commenter who can be readily identified--wants to speak in their own name and say what they know, I will publish it. If readers want to--oh, how would the Coffee Talk lady put it so well?--Talk amongst yourselves--then go ahead and talk, and send email links, and do whatever it is readers do with the information I publish.

But, as the mainstream media puts it so well, sometimes the truth DOESN'T set you free. Sometimes even this blog doesn't dare publish the truth.

But truth wants to get loose, and truth finds a way.
