Remaro Cordell Smith, Reportedly One Of The Last People To See Annshalike Hamilton Alive, Is Facing Felony Domestic Assault Charges And GUESS WHO IS THE PROSECUTOR?

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

The mother of 15-year-old murder victim Annshalike Hamilton has not held back with her strong opinion about Remaro Cordell Smith, click here for this blog's exclusive story from early February, 2010. And, of course, Remaro hasn't exactly kept himself out of trouble in the last few years. (Hotel room, cough cough, bail bondsman, cough cough, stand off, cough cough)

Now comes word Smith is (God be praised) facing serious domestic violence charges that could get him off the streets for a long time. And, oh my word, there's a special surprise about who is handling the prosecution. That piece of info is nestled in the charging document like a delicious, chewy, carmel-flavored center.

First let me say the charging document (click here) is very interesting because....

Anne Marie Leikas, Sister Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton, Is In Prison...

DOC mug shots, therefore public domain, blog post by John Hoff

Anne Marie Leikas, the sister of "cold case" murder victim Annshalike Hamilton and the girlfriend of Remaro C. Smith, is in prison for a crime involving marijuana. She was incarcerated as of February 28, 2011. Here is a link to her information on the State Department of Corrections Offender Locator, click here.

June Leikas, the mother of Annshalike Hamilton, has publicly expressed over and over her specific and reasonable suspicions about Remaro Smith who, as this blog recently reported, has a parole violation hearing soon.

Anne Marie Leikas is expected to be released in June.

Remaro Smith Arrested For Assault, Kidnapping, High Speed Chase...

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

Word came to me a few days ago from June Leikas, the mother of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton, that Remaro C. Smith had been involved in a high speed chase after being--surprisingly--released from jail following charges stemming from an incident where he held off a SWAT team.

As anybody knows who has ever read this blog, heard about this blog, or stood near a computer where this blog sometimes appears: June Leikas believes Remaro C. Smith murdered her daughter.

Smith is, of course, innocent until proven guilty. Smith denies the charges.

Now comes a new development...

Smith is in jail, facing a raft of charges. Here's the recent Hennepin County Jail Roster:

Full Name: SMITH, REMARO .CORDELL

Booking Number: 2010010737

Date of Birth: 1/29/1987

Sheriff's Custody: IN CUSTODY

Housing Location:
Received Date/Time: 4/23/2010.. 19:31

Arrested By: MINNEAPOLIS PD

1/1 FLEEING A PEACE OFFICER IN A MOTOR VEHICLE MINNEAPOLIS PD ARREST AND DETENTION FELONY $0
HWB BY DC 4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/1 ASSAULT-2ND DEGREE-DANGEROUS WEAPON MINNEAPOLIS PD WARRANT FELONY $100,000
BAIL SET BY DC 4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/2 ASSAULT-2ND DEGREE-DANGEROUS WEAPON MINNEAPOLIS PD WARRANT FELONY $0
4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/3 KIDNAPPING-TO COMMIT GREAT BODILY HARM/TERRORIZE MINNEAPOLIS PD WARRANT FELONY $0
4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

His bail appears pretty hefty, but given the pattern so far Johnny Northside has to ask: how long before this guy is on the streets again in another high speed chase?

Some details about the charges were available to friends and/or family, who passed them on to me. The assault charges reportedly involve Ann Marie Leikas, who is Annshalike Hamilton's sister and Remaro's girlfriend. A source has described, in detail, the troubling and abusive relationship between Ann Marie and Remaro, click here. It is unknown, however, who the kidnapping charges involve.

My source says "The very day Remaro got out (of jail) he was beating the hell out of Ann Marie." But Ann Marie had a roommate, and the roommate called the police. This is reportedly what led to the high speed chase. Reports are Smith managed to bail from the car, but police got ahold of the car and wouldn't return it to Ann Marie "until she gave up the guy who was driving it."

And so Remaro is in jail. And the wait for justice continues.

Don't hold your breath.

Mother Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton Denies She Ever Paid Bail For Remaro Smith, Who She Believes Killed Annshalike...

Photo and blog post by John Hoff

This morning I spoke to June Leikas, the mother of Annshalike Hamilton, the 15-year-old pregnant girl whose body was found, frozen, in a slumlord's garage at 2222 4th St. N.

June Leikas and two other friends of the family have made no secret of their belief that Remaro C. Smith--the steady boyfriend of Annshalike's sister, Anne Marie Leikas--was responsible for the murder. These allegations are unproven and, for the record, Remaro denies the allegations as "all a bunch of bullsh***."

Today I asked June Leikas about allegations made via text message on a phone associated with Remaro's brother Jonathon--possibly used by Remaro, Anne Marie, and/or Remaro's brother Jonathon--that June Leikas treated Remaro like a son and, in fact, had paid his bail more than once...

June Leikas denies she paid bail for Remaro, but told me a complex and nuanced version of the facts. Yes, there had been a time when Remaro needed bail. It was not the time when, allegedly, Remaro pulled two guns and pointed the guns at June and her son Mike. No, rather it was before that incident.

Remaro had needed bail and Anne Marie had the money to pay it. However, since Anne Marie didn't have a regular job, she was unable to be the person responsible for posting the bail. So June Leikas said she'd been willing to use Anne Marie's money and bail out Remaro. She believes the charge that time was a gun charge. The tone of June's voice speaks deep regret.

June Leikas went on to describe how Remaro had pulled guns on her and Mike. The day began at about 5:30 in the morning, when June walked into the bedroom shared by Remaro and Anne Marie. June saw her daughter Anne Marie curled into "a fetal position" with Remaro on top of her, "his fists coming down." June said Anne Marie was "just laying there like, OK, do it." June says Anne Marie's behavior is like those of individuals brainwashed by cults and says police have told her "It's going to take years to deprogram Anne Marie." (Compare June's account with that of a family friend who says she witnessed domestic violence by Remaro up close)

It was later that same morning, after the beating of Anne Marie--at about 8:30 in the morning, according to June--when Remaro pulled two guns, pointing one and June and one at Mike. June said she cried out, "Mike, get back, he's got guns on us." A short while later, Remaro ran from the house, presumably to hide the guns because police were coming. But Remaro came back to the house. That's when Mike jumped on Remaro and hit him, taking Remaro down to the ground. When police arrived, they saw Anne Marie hitting Mike with a toaster. June says both Anne Marie and Remaro were taken away and the toaster was taken as evidence.

June spoke of her deep sadness at the death of Annshalike, saying, "I miss her like hell, that was my baby" and said "I want my baby to rest in peace."

Contact with my high-ranking police source shows Anne Marie does not have any warrants as of today. Remaro is known to have three, one for a felony gun charge.

June said she is afraid Anne Marie will stick with Remaro to the bitter end and would even be willing to take a rap for Remaro.

Documents From The Family Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton, In PDF Form...

Annshalike Hamilton--the 15-year-old pregnant girl who was found murdered in a slumlord's garage in North Minneapolis, her body frozen, the crime still unsolved--had a family. She had friends. And those friends and family have been talking about who they suspect in her death:

Remaro C. Smith, the boyfriend of Annshalike's sister Anne Marie Leikas, who lived under their very roof.

Recently, the family provided me some documents which I summarized in this blog post, click here. I now have the documents in PDF form. Click here for the documents on the Johnny Northside PDF support site.

In summary: arrest record, very impressive, but reportedly not complete. Documents about the alleged raiding of the trust fund of Anthony "Boogie" Leikas, which Annshalike's mother blames on Remaro Smith and her daughter Anne Marie. A document purportedly from a probation officer. And, last but not least, an image of Remaro and Anne Marie.

A high-ranking police source says Remaro C. Smith is wanted on three warrants; one a felony gun warrant and two for misdemeanors.

This small selection of documents is reportedly not all the paperwork which exists in the hands of the family. I am working to get more information.

Documents Fall Into The Hands Of JNS Blog From The Family Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton...

Stock photo by John Hoff, paperwork, blog post by John Hoff

Papers are now in my hands from the family of 15-year-old murder victim Annshalike Hamilton which appear to document, to some degree, the stories told of (alleged) domestic abuse by Remaro Smith against Anne Marie Leikas--the sister of Annshalike Hamilton--and to provide some documentary substance to allegations about a trust fund being fraudulently raided by Anne Marie and Remaro while living under the very roof of June Leikas.

The mother of Annshalike Hamilton told this blog why she believes Remaro Smith murdered her daughter, click here. Other sources have come forward with other pieces of the story, click here and also here. The mother of Annshalike Hamilton believes domestic violence and what appears to be evidence of fraudulent financial activity helps to paint a picture of Remaro Smith and his girlfriend--who is her other daughter, Anne Marie--and June Leikas believes these facts relevant to the unsolved murder of Annshalike Hamilton.

Yes, she took in Remaro Smith. Yes, there were times she treated him well, arguably even like a son. And yes, she now believes this guy who lived under her very roof, ate her food, dated her other daughter...is the killer of Annshalike Hamilton and Hamilton's unborn child, Kyra Hamilton.

There have been some responses from the Remaro Smith camp, but not of a terribly detailed or informative nature, click here for an example, click here for another, click here for another, and click yet again.

Remaro Smith--as I have checked into over again to confirm with my police source, YET AGAIN--is currrently wanted on three warrants, which consist of two misdemeanors and a felony gun warrant. Call 1-888-988-TIPS if you know the whereabouts of Remaro Smith. If Smith himself wants to check the status of his warrants, he can call 612-348-2000. He should have a case number and birthday ready.

It is the position of JNS blog that allegations are merely allegations, I air the allegations but they are not my allegations.

But due to their substantive and detailed nature about an unsolved murder, these allegations are like those made by the mother of Natalie Holloway saying why she believes Joran van der Sloot murdered her daughter in Aruba. There is, however, an incredible class difference between Natalie Holloway speaking to Nancy Grace on the national airwaves, versus June Leikas of North Minneapolis talking to the only media paying attention to the unsolved murder of her 15-year-old daughter Annshalike Hamilton.

Ah, but let's get to those documents, shall we...?

These documents will hit the JNS PDF support site when it is feasible to turn them into PDF images. For now, I would like to share some of the information contained in the documents as fast as possible.

First, there is a photo. I do not know when the photo was taken, but it shows a young man and woman--both very skinny--purportedly Remaro Smith and Anne Marie Hamilton. The image was PRINTED on 2/24/2009 according to an automatic notation on the back of the photo. Remaro is wearing a long, plain white t-shirt and colorful blue pants which say "Corona." He is petting a dog which has its head on his lap, and he is grinning broadly. He has very nice teeth. He is thin, but has muscle tone. A pack of Newports sits in front of him on a glass coffee table.

The woman who is purportedly Anne Marie Leikas embraces Smith with one arm as he gives affection to the dog. She appears very skinny. She is wearing a black hoodie which bears the image of the Disney character Tinkerbell. A yellow Post-It note which came attached to the photo says, "Notice large scar part of eyebrow missing on Anne's left eyebrow from Remaro."

I look closely at Anne Marie's left eyebrow, which would be to my right. Though the photo was taken from 7 to 10 feet away, a flesh-colored gap is indeed visible in Anne Marie's eyebrow.

The home in which the photo was taken doesn't look so bad. There are matching chairs around a table with a flower arrangement, and a live plant sits on the coffee table.

The next document is a printout of a county jailhouse roster, apparently printed August 28, 2009. It shows Remaro Cordell Smith was received by the jail on July 23, 2009, at 02:15 hours. He was arrested by Minneapolis police. He was released from custody on August 25, 2009 at 15:37 hours. His booking number is 2009021484. (Please note: This number DOES NOT MATCH the number on the "identity card image" provided to this blog, the only image I have up to now of Remaro Smith. I am still not clear what the origins are of that image, but it may be some kind of card which gives access to a gym)

The charges listed on the roster are: Fleeing a police officer, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, possess pistol/assault weapon ineligible person, domestic assault misdemeanor intentionally inflicts/attempts to inflict bodily harm on another, drugs 5th degree possess schedule 1,2,3,4--not small amount of marijuana subsequent conviction.

Court dates associated with these charges were all on 9/21/2009 at 9:30, except for the drug charge, which was 9/30/2009 at 9:30, all the court appearances were "downtown." Bail on the fleeing a police officer was $5,000 and $300 on the domestic assault, the others say "0" bail.

The next document is a letter dated 1/23/09 from Krueger Law Firm of Roseville. It is addressed to Mr. Anthony Leikas at 2655 NE Washington Street, which a handwritten notation on the letter points out, saying, "Notice everything was sent to Remaro's moms house (old house)"

The letter concerns "Requested advice on Peachtree contract" and speaks of signing an agreement to give "Settlement Funding, LLC, also known as Peachtree" a large cut of money from a trust fund in exchange for an early cash out. The total in the fund is $38,652.46. Per the proposed agreement, Anthony (or the person purporting to be Anthony, if you accept the story told my June Leikas) would receive "10,449.93, minus the fee of Krueger law firm, in addition to the future payments." The "future payments" appear to consist of $5,000 on March 1, 2011 and $8,000 on March 1, 2015. I strongly suspect this document consists of more pages and all I have is the first page.

Another letter from the same law firm is dated 1/26/2009 and shows that John A. Kindseth of Krueger law firm told Ms. Leslie of Peachtree that "Krueger Law Firm has reviewed your agreement and written a letter to Mr. Leikas advising him on the agreement. I was informed Peachtree would send payment on behalf of Mr. Leikas. Please forward payment at your earliest convenience." The letter, interestingly, bears an "exhibit sticker" with the notation "Exhibit E." It is unknown if this letter was presented as part of litigation, or what the case number may be of the litigation.

Another document is dated January 13, 2009 and consists of a fax from "Brose, Jared" of Symetra Financial. The subject is "Schedule of Benefits and Current Beneficiary for Anthony Leikas, AA752605 Memo." Elsewhere, the document makes clear that AA752605 is the number of the "annuity contract." This fax bears a sticker that says "Exhibit A."

Another document is a "Statutory Short Form Power of Attorney" and purports to show Anthony C. Leikas of 2655 Washington Ave. N. gave power of attorney to Anne Marie Leikas, of that same address, the power of attorney being limited to (check a box) banking transactions. This power of attorney was signed April 2, 2009, by a notary who affirmed the person who appeared before her was none other than Anthony Leikas himself. The notary was Shelly D. Reimer.

Another document--word processed, bearing no letterhead or signature--says, "Dear Annemarie (sic) This is a reminder that on Tuesday, February 16th, you have a meeting with me at Probation Center North (4336 Lyndale Ave. N.) I have you scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Thank you. Michelle Moran." The document also has Moran's phone and fax.

So JNS blog has these documents, but seeks MORE information, MORE documents, more interviews. This blog will not rest until the murderer of Annshalike Hamilton is arrested.

Remaro Smith's Gun Felony Warrant STILL ACTIVE, And Johnny Northside Answers "Witch Hunt" Allegations...Plus How YOU Can Check For Active Warrants!

Stock photo, John Hoff looking at paperwork, blog post by John Hoff

To refresh everybody's memory: the mother of Annshalike Hamilton, who is named June Leikas, thinks Remaro C. Smith murdered her daughter. Click here for details. A family friend thinks so, too. Click here. And then another family friend also thinks so, click here. And this blog has been telling the story. This blog is the ONLY media entity which appears to be telling the story right now, and there's something wrong with that picture, but more on that later.

I don't know who killed Annshalike Hamilton. I am just printing information which appears to be relevant and substantive. I am committed to printing information which would tend to cast doubt on information I have already received. My mind is not made up about who did it.

So I called my high ranking police source a moment ago--because seeds of doubt had been planted in my mind by somebody who called and talked to me for almost a freaking hour about Remaro Smith, how innocent he was or MIGHT BE, that kind of thing--no telling if this is a credible, connected source or not, so nothing to publish yet, but let the record show the conversation took place and it planted dark, slippery seeds of doubt in my mind, just a bit.

For a moment. Just a moment.

But nope. Nope. Right away I called my high ranking police source--the same one who told me about the active warrants a while back, click here--and I checked.

The source confirms the MNCIS system shows Remaro C. Smith wanted on an active warrant. So the source checked things another way, just to make sure, because the MNCIS system had been down recently. So it was checked another way. Wanted. Wanted on three warrants. The felony gun thing and two misdemeanors. In regard to the felony gun thing, specifically it is "possession of a weapon--prohibited person--felony." (In one of the systems, the felony charge "trumps" the less serious charges, thus only the most serious charge shows up in one of the systems)

(An aside directed to one particular person, not to all the readers at large: So he's still wanted on three warrants. You say I should check with my sources? I should do that? Well, I did. REMARO SMITH IS STILL WANTED ON A FELONY GUN WARRANT, "Brenda." You want to tell me things? Convince me of things? Convince me something is TRUE? Make me afraid to say something on my blog? Prove you even KNOW Remaro? Well, you'll have to do much better than that. "Brenda." I'm just saying)

Now let's talk about accusations and insinuations this blog is on a "witch hunt" and Remaro Smith is getting, oh I don't know, defamed.

First of all, that's not true because...

...he's not getting "defamed," in fact he's getting FAMOUS, therefore "famed." Ha ha.

But seriously, folks. And let's be dead serious for a moment.

Turn on your television to shows like Nancy Grace and so forth, and you will see friends and family members articulating, in detail, why they suspect so-and-so of murder. There is nothing wrong with the media printing these substantive, detailed suspicions by people close to a murder victim, who wish to reveal details about what happened that night, what they saw, what they suspect. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, FOLKS. It's the media doing its job, playing its role in a free society. Society cares when there is a murderer loose. And who is most likely to have valuable clues? People close to the murder. If the police wanted me to stop publishing stuff, and told me to stop, such a request would weigh very, very heavily with me. But they have NOT.

Yes, there's a police investigation. And yet this murder is as cold as Annshalike's grave. Does Fox9, KSTP, WCCO, the Star Tribune or other media sources fill the internet, the air waves, kill trees on her behalf? Do they cry out, "Who did it? We don't know, but let us tell you--let us tell the whole world--what her mother thinks. What her friend thinks. What her OTHER friend thinks."

But here's the problem. Annshalike Hamilton is not a prominent person. She's was a poor, pregnant, 15-year-old girl of color, who disappeared off the face of the earth--and who even knew that? A few people close to her. Her murdered body turned up in the garage of a slumlord, and who cares? The family has approached the media or, at most relevant times, made themselves available to the media. By which I mean the BIG media, like local television stations.

But it seems like the biggie media doesn't care. A 15-year-old girl is dead on the Northside? Well, that's sad, but it doesn't even seem to merit a follow up story. In fact, only the most high profile, shocking, interesting cases merit the "let's talk to everybody live on television" treatment. Otherwise, the media doesn't seem to care much.

Well, I happen to care. And I have, well, not many resources. A blog. A slightly hot blog. But it might do the trick to keep the story alive and fresh in a number of minds.

Like Tom Cruise said in A Few Good Men, "I'm the only friend you've got." The family and friends of Annshalike Hamilton may not like it--in fact, I know for a fact they don't--but the other media isn't responding to their situation. And so the story rolls down the media food chain, until it lands in my lap down near the bottom of the food chain.

I wish to God it weren't in my lap. I wish Nancy Grace was broadcasting from the roof of a skyscraper, telling the world "Annshalike Hamilton is dead and people should care, very much, about solving her murder. Let us look, let us examine, let us all think and roll it around in our minds. What does the mother say? What does the friend say?"

But grassroots blogger media changes the formula. Because, you see, we don't need people in New Jersey to care about this murder or know its details. We need people RIGHT HERE IN MINNEAPOLIS to know and care. And if there's one thing this blog can do, it can reach Minneapolis...especially North Minneapolis. So, as far as I'm concerned, I'll put on a blond wig and be Nancy Grace. It's not very good or very pretty, but it may get the job done.

So I'll dig up info and ask the tough questions though, at some level, I absolutely hate this story: the grit of it, the sadness of it, and Remaro Smith who is clearly FURIOUS for the story being told and he's got, what? An active gun warrant? But I'm not going to let go of this story.

If Remaro has something to say--from Chicago or wherever he might be--my email is available. The comments function is there. If he has something more to say than Johnny Northside is a bored, no-life-having bitch and everything is bullsh*** and hearsay, he can say it. And I'll add this: WHAT HAPPENED IN THAT FAMILY IS VERY COMPLICATED. And when whoever is at the other end of that cell phone used by Remaro's brother Jonathon texts me and says June Leikas bailed Remaro from jail repeatedly...I don't necessarily NOT believe it.

There is a complex story here, and only by getting info from both sides can the story be fleshed out. But what am I supposed to do when one side talks to me in detail--opens up their heart, provides informative documents--and the other side says "bullsh**" and "talk to my lawyer" and that is supposed to be some kind of ANSWER?

But somehow I suspect--and my long phone call with the unknown, unverified, perhaps not even creditable source still fits with what I strongly suspect anyway--Remaro doesn't want to "feed the fire" by providing more information, whether that information is by phone call, email, or text message. He doesn't even want to put his excuses out there and have those excuses examined.

Remaro doesn't want to be famous. He wants the information coming to this blog from friends and family to stop, stop, stop.

Well, it won't stop. Just today more information arrived in my hands. And that info will be hitting the internet soon. In fact, probably the only thing which MIGHT shut off the flow of info--I'm saying "might," here--is Remaro turning himself in upon his three warrants.

Which are still active, according to my high ranking police source.

No, I'm not on a witch hunt. I'm on a hunt for the truth. Both a witch hunt and a hunt for the truth have some common elements, though: they are ugly, messy, and emotional. People grow furious, people cry out, and from a distance you might ask, "OH, my god, that looks horrible!"

But all I want is the truth. And if Remaro wants to articulate his story in detail--all about why he is innocent, how things may look bad because of what some people are saying, but he's innocent of the murder of Annshalike Hamilton--I'm absolutely committed to publishing his side and, furthermore, I AM SURE WHATEVER HAPPENED IS VERY COMPLICATED. I believe that. So tell me. Tell me your side, Remaro C. Smith, because the other side is telling me PLENTY and you have my word that information will continue to pour into the internet as fast as I can get it out there.

Oh, wait. I promised readers information about how to check for warrants, didn't I?

My high ranking police source says to call 612-348-2000. Another source says to call 1-888-988-TIPS (8477)

So cool! Put it in your speed dial, folks! Oh, but I'm told they need a case number. You can't just call with a name, or even a name and birthday.

They seem willing to TAKE info about the whereabouts of wanted individuals, though. They won't GIVE the info.

JNS BLOG EXCLUSIVE: Source Close To Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton Says She Witnessed Remaro Smith's Violence Toward Sister Anne Marie...

Photos and blog post by John Hoff

"Jackie" (not her real name) was a female friend of the family of Annshalike Hamilton, the 15-year-old pregnant girl whose dead, frozen body was found in a slumlord's garage.

Hamilton's murder remains unsolved, however her mother June Leikas and (at last count) two other close friends of the family have both identified Remaro C. Smith as the person they suspect of murdering Hamilton. Remaro was the steady boyfriend of Anne Marie Leikas, who is the older sister of Annshalike Hamilton. Smith was reportedly very violent toward Anne Marie and had been living at the Leikas household at the time of Hamilton's disappearance.

Recently, I spoke to Jackie--who was in a position to observe plenty of things for a number of years. We talked at a fast food restaurant. Jackie showed me a bracelet she wears in memory of Annshalike, which she swears she will not remove until the day somebody is arrested and charged with Annshalike's murder. On the speed dial of Jackie's cell phone she has the homicide detective reportedly in charge of the Hamilton cold case: Anne Kjos.

Jackie has a...

...professional career and has known June's family for a number of years. She knew Annshalike since Annshalike was very small. In fact, she recently found a video of Annshalike Hamilton as a endearing little girl playing bingo with Annshalike's brother, Mike. The video was shot at a birthday party.

Jackie met the family of June Leikas through a mutual friend. Annshalike often came to Jackie's apartment along with her siblings, Mike and Anthony. (Anthony is known as "Boogie.") At the apartment they would go swimming at the apartment pool, have cookouts, and "do different things like that." Jackie has known the family since approximately 1998 or 1999. Jackie had a great affection for Annshalike and thought, "If anybody in that family is going to grow up to be somebody, it's going to be Annshalike. Her and Mike."

Remaro and Anne Marie moved into Jackie's apartment in 2005. At that time, Annshalike's brother Mike was charged with a DWI. While Mike was in jail, Anne Marie asked Jackie if she and Remaro could stay at Jackie's place. Before that, they had been staying with Remaro's mom, Mrs. Newman, (spelling unknown) and also with June Leikas. But the teenage couple had "basically burned their bridges" with both Newman and Leikas. So now they asked to come and stay with Jackie.

All of the facts as related below are according to Jackie. These allegations have not been proven.

So Anne Marie and Remaro arrived to stay for a while with Jackie and things were OK at first. But one day while Jackie was at work she received a phone call from Anne Marie, who announced "I'm leaving." Jackie asked, "Where are you going? What's wrong." Anne Marie said, "I can't talk about it. I'm just leaving." So Jackie said, well, please wait until I get home and we'll talk about this. When Jackie returned to her home, Anne Marie had a black eye from Remaro punching her.

Anne Marie reportedly said the punch happened in the alley. Jackie is not sure what they argued about, but she "sat them both down and talked to them like a psychiatrist or a marriage counselor." And things actually calmed down, or so it seemed. But a few days later, Anne Marie told Jackie about an incident where Remaro "choked her in the basement." Jackie hadn't known about this incident, and was disturbed by it.

Soon there was another physical incident after Anne Marie and Remaro had been arguing--again, who knows what it was about--but Jackie said, "Anne Marie, I'm not going to let him hurt you in my house."

So Jackie took Anne Marie into her own bedroom and said, “Just sit here.” Jackie thought Remaro would calm down and removing Anne Marie from the argument would help. It was not the first time Anne Marie had been invited into Jackie's room to get away from an argument. Jackie said, "When Anne Marie came into my room, there was a wall she would sit up against. She would just fold into a shell. It was horrible to watch."

This time Remaro followed her into Jackie's bedroom and "began freaking out" because, he said, Anne Marie had been "telling Jackie our business." Remaro then got on top of Anne Marie and began choking her, right in front of Jackie and Jackie's two young children.

Jackie says she will never forget her kids sitting on the bed screaming and crying in fear of this guy Remaro. Jackie thought she could pull Remaro off Anne Marie, so she took her fingernails and dug them into his throat, basically trying to tear him off like a crazed, vicious dog. Jackie tried to pull Remaro back by his neck, but that didn’t work either—the whole time Remaro was choking Anne Marie. So Jackie started punching Remaro. She may have hit him as many as ten times.

Jackie couldn’t get Remaro off and figured, at that point, she needed to protect her kids. So she called the police—right there from the bedroom, with the kids present—and Remaro was still battling with Anne Marie. The fight ended up in the other bedroom. Somehow Anne Marie got up and kept saying three words to Remaro: I love you. I love. Please, stop. I LOVE YOU.

So Remaro had Anne Marie in a fetal position, raining down punches on her. Finally—Jackie is not sure how exactly she managed to do it—she pretended like she was Remaro’s best friend. Jackie told him "it’s not worth it, Anne Marie is not worth all of this." Jackie put her arm around Remaro and said, “Let’s go out on the front step, cool off and talk.”

Somehow, Remaro wasn’t even aware the police were coming even though Jackie had called 911 in the same room, it was like he was possessed and could hear nothing around him while attacking Anne Marie.

So Jackie got Remaro out on the front steps and sat there with him for about five minutes, with Jackie finally saying, “I need to go in and check on my kids.” Remaro said, “OK,” and continued sitting where he was. Jackie got into the house and immediately shut the door behind her and locked it, locking Remaro out.

Once she locked him out, Remaro went around to the side of the house and broke out the window with some kind of object, maybe a rock or a small metal wheelchair ramp from the neighbor’s stairs, Jackie isn't sure which. Glass was flying into the bedroom where the fight had ended up.

Anne Marie was screaming, “Stop. Please stop. I love you.” Remaro broke the bottom portion of the window and tried to climb inside, but Jackie managed to pull down the sash portion of the window, locking it with Remaro's fingers underneath. Remaro managed to pull his hand out and came around to the front door. He tried to kick in the door, but the door held. The police arrived and both officers drew their guns on Remaro.

So Remaro went to jail. Jackie said there was supposed to be some kind of restitution paid for damaged, but restitution never came. Jackie figured it was "a lost cause" to squeeze money out of Remaro, so she never pursued it.

So Remaro was locked up, but Anne Marie would keep talking to Remaro over the phone without Jackie’s knowledge. Anne Marie ended up leaving before Remaro got out. She apparently went to live with Remaro’s family, but Jackie is not sure. It should be noted this incident Jackie is describing does not appear to show up on Remaro's online court records, click here for a link to that blog post.

Jackie has continued to hang out with June Leikas and her family. Jackie says that over the years she has seen Remaro hit Anne Marie "hundreds" of times. Punches. Full force punches. Or he chokes her. It doesn't matter where; in public, in front of other people, inside, outside.

"If he wants to hit her, he's going to do it, and nothing stops him," Jackie said. "Remaro is a sick man."

Anne Marie always has marks on her body, Jackie says, from the constant abuse. Though Remaro is reportedly very skinny--my source William called him a "Q-tip"--Anne Marie is even smaller.

"She's probably 70 pounds, soaking wet," Jackie says. Jackie passed along unconfirmed and unverified info that both Anne Marie and Remaro have health issues, based on medical paperwork that reportedly arrived at the Leikas house. If I get confirmation in the form of paperwork, I will consider printing this info after a long mulling of the legal and ethical issues involved.

Jackie has very little doubt about who killed Annshalike. She figures Remaro just got violent with Annshalike the way he gets violent, all the time, with Anne Marie. She wants to see Remaro arrested on his outstanding warrants but, more importantly, she wants to see Remaro charged with murder.

As Promised, Details Of The Furious Back-And-Forth Text Conversation With Remaro Smith's Brother, Jonathon, About The Murder Of Annshalike Hamilton...

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

Following several posts about the murder of Annshalike Hamilton, and specific, detailed allegations by Annshalike's mother that Remaro C. Smith is the guy who killed her daughter, I had an opportunity to engage in a conversation-by-text-message with somebody who is using the phone of Jonathan Newman (spelling unknown) Remaro's brother. June Leikas suspects Remaro must have had an accomplice--being too scrawny to carry a body on his own--and June named Jonathon as the person Remaro would be most likely to call for assistance.

Remaro is wanted on three warrants (according to a high-ranking police source) but none of the warrants are for murder.

Please note THESE TEXT MESSAGES MAY BE SOMEWHAT OUT OF ORDER due to the difficulty of pulling text messages out of a phone, all mixed with other messages, but the conversation is essentially correct in its details

The text messages began with a salvo from me...

JNS: You should check out what I just published.

(The individual or individuals responding on Jonathon’s phone will be designated “JP” for Jonathon’s phone)

JP: I did thanks for makin my bro a star keep up da good work ur lettin da real killer get away.

JNS: (Texts something about who is the real killer)

JP: Of course mr. smith keep it up johnny dis is like comedy blog u guy’s r funny.

JNS: Are u saying smith is the real killer?

JP: No his not.

(Another message follows)

JP: No dat wat u and june claim

JNS: Were you at the house that night with Remaro?

JP: No u were and 15 other june partners look june house is a flop house u can buy drugs out of her house and get ur dick suck at da sametime look it up her crib been raid so many times no telling who was in da house dat night remember Daniel is a baby killer oh yea do u think people r satisfy wit him getting 10 years 4 killin a baby how da fuck u think people fell y aren’t u post his sick ass and his raperman ass brother mike

(Even more follows)

JP: And dont forget bout Anthony who likes to tie up senior citizens and beat them half dead and rob them look johnny I no u have somebody old in ur family me 2 so pointing da finger at Remaro or somebody else without proof is goin 2 another level but ur da media i suppose y’all like lie and not da truth.

(JNS asks who is Daniel)

JP: Daniel Leikas da babykiller don’t act like u don’t no

(JNS asks what Daniel has to do with Annshalike’s death)

JP: I just told u.they r rapermans, killers an robbers.

(JNS asks for the full names and birthdays of the people being named)

JP: Anthony leikas 3-8-90 daniel leikas 9-22-81 michael lee robinson 12-5-82

(The text messages with Jonathon’s phone take a while, enough to sneak in some calls between the texts. At some point, I called my other source, “William,” and asked, “Who is Daniel?” I am told Daniel is the oldest brother in the family. The other siblings are Michael, Anthony who is known as “Boogie,” Anne Marie and Annshalike. I’m also told Daniel was in prison during the time of Annshalike’s disappearance and remains in prison today. I called my high ranking police contact, who confirmed Daniel has been in prison since November of 2007 and is, therefore, clearly not a suspect in the murder of Annshalike Hamilton. Just today, another creditable source close to the family claims Michael was in jail at the time Annshalike disappeared)

JNS: Are you saying Daniel may have done it?

JP: Mr. William who contact u who name is (provides a name) look everybody is a suspect dat hang around her meaning june

(JNS blog will not print the name of “William” nor print speculation as to his identity)

JNS: U think june is really a suspect?

JP: Who no’s annemarie almost die swallowin a penny y june was smoking crack her parent skills is 0

JNS: Can’t we do this by email. I want all the details.

JP: Hell naw publish it like said

(The plea to have the conversation by email is made twice, rebuffed both times. The person using Jonathon’s phone then turns the conversation to the person he believes to be my source “William,” trying to smear him)

JP: He try to get ann and my sister 2 fight dis white girl cuz she didn’t want to fuck him (name) got lace before he not all da way on earth if you no wat I mean u c he scare 2 put his real name on ur blog and I call him he said ur a bunch of bullshit and fuck u but remind urself I no (name) u don’t.

(The following message I not only send to Jonathon, but to Twitter)

JNS: High ranking police source says Daniel Leikas in prison since November 2007 so telling me to look at Daniel is kinda stupid, huh, Jonathon?

JP: No duh I get it u like 2 switch shit up huh u need some pussy take a vacation

JNS: U texted me to look at Daniel.

JP: No i didn’t u just like to switch shit around.

JNS: U texted me to look at Daniel. And Mike, too. Is Annie texting me from same phone?

JP: No i didn’t y r tryin 2 switch shit up u need help

(Another message follows)

JP: So wat no a high rank officer wat his or her badge # cuz we have cops in r family now sorry to tell dat johnny.

JNS: Oh? Explain what u mean about cops in ur family. Also, I doubt it.

JP: Oh Johnny if my brother so much da killer y wood june bail him out she always come 2 rescue slim and she no it

JNS: When exactly has she bailed him. Tell me when, how much, for what?

JP: Every damn time he goes 2 jail.

JNS: OK. For what? When? How much were the bonds? Be specific.

JP: Ask June.

JNS: No. I’m asking you. Why should I hurt that poor woman’s feelings with the question if u won’t give me specific to make it believable?

(I follow this message with another)

JNS: U told me to look at Daniel. Hard to believe what u say because looking at Daniel is a wild goose chase. Kind of like the night Annshalike disappeared and Remaro was telling June to run all over. Any truth to that?

JP: Well y she wait almost 2 years 2 say oh I no remaro do me a favor and ask da detective what june said remaro was dat nite so post dat

(I fire off some kind of message about Remaro having warrants)

JP: Ha ha johnny his warrant aint got shit 2 do wit murder dats if he has a warrant

JNS: Got anything to say to June about why u harbor Remaro instead of telling him to go clear his name?

JP: Yea I aint harbor nobody remaro got anuff $ to harbor his self and fuck her and y aint she talking bout her babykillin ass son and how he use 2 beat her ass and how he hits her wit beer cans she need 2 stop playin before I have my bm call dat fakeass job and she no her and aries split da check now dats fraud yes I said it she fraudin dat pca shit sit on her ass collectin a check split it wit da patient is dat fraud johnny

(I fired off some kind of message about tell me everything. I’ll publish it)

JP: Good publish it ur not helping solve it ur a bunch gossip u act like a bitch dis wat my babymoma do when she on her period.

(Another message follows)

JP: I call ur bluff johnny I thought u were suppose 2 help solve it dis gossip shit johnny u have no life johnny who no’s u maybe da peepin tom or da killer besides u do no everybody life right look if u or anybody like u had sense they wood focus da murder not dis gossip shit u putting on da internet cuz 100% sure if dis was true remaro wood b in custody.
Me: Oh? In custody? Isn’t he avoiding the police? Didn’t he run to Chicago?

(I follow with another message)

JNS: So tell me about June bailing Remaro. When? For what? How much? Was it for beating Anne Marie?

JP: Dats exactly wat I’m talk bout johnny ur life is base on gossip u have no life.

JNS: Why do u say Mike could have done it? Didn’t Mike try to stop Remaro from beating Anne Marie?

(I wait. And wait. I shovel a lot of snow while I wait. No answer comes)

(But shortly before I hit the “publish” button on this blog post, I will text Jonathon’s phone again. And the messages will probably start again)

Another source close to the family talked to me today, revealing explosive and highly-detailed information about Remaro’s spectacular record of domestic violence against Anne Marie Leikas.

That information is on its way to readers.

If Remaro turns himself in on his warrants, I may lose interest in publishing every bit of info I can get my hands on, including some rumored medical paperwork which came to the house of June Leikas.

Furious Text Messages Fly In Defense Of Remaro Smith...

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

At this moment, text messages are flying back and forth between myself and (apparently) Jonathon Newman (spelling unknown, trying to verify) the brother of Remaro Smith. June Leikas, who is the mother of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton, believes Remaro is responsible for the death of her daughter. June and a family friend, "William" (not his real name) told their suspicions in detail, click here and also here.

The tone of the text messages from Jonathon's known phone number can be described as angry. The messages point fingers at everybody else but Remaro--including June Leikas, older brother Daniel Leikas, and brother Mike--as being possibly responsible for the death of Annshalike Hamilton.

I will be publishing these messages in the near future with this advance warning: the messages are ugly and the family of Annshalike Hamilton will find them difficult to stomach. However, it appears only this blog is keeping alive the story of the unsolved murder of Annshalike Hamilton, trying to focus official attention and resources to the murder. If that means I have to get my hands dirty, well, dirt is nothing new to my hands.

JNS BLOG EXCLUSIVE: Remaro Smith Sent Anne Marie and June Leikas On A Wild Goose Chase The Night Annshalike Hamilton Disappeared...

Stock photo and blog post by John Hoff

Today, I spoke to Anne Marie Leikas, who denied allegations made by her own mother--June Leikas--that Anne Marie's boyfriend, Remaro Smith, was involved in the murder of Annshalike Hamilton. In the course of that conversation, Anne Marie said something very interesting: she had accompanied June Leikas to Cub Foods the night Annshalike disappeared.

June told me a story of going to Cub Foods and having a "bad feeling" as she was shopping, and coming back to find herself locked out of her own house. My previous story did not reveal everything June Leikas told me...but there were some things I wanted to hear from others: Anne Marie and Remaro.

In fact, June told me about being sent on a wild goose chase that night. (She did not use that phrase, however) Remaro called and said to "go here, go there, pick this up, go wait for this guy." But, according to William, "the guy" didn't show up.

The quick shopping trip to Cub Foods took much longer than expected. When June got back to the house, the door was locked...

According to "William," another source, there is a screen door with hooks that lock the door. June was unable to get into her own house, and spent quite some time yelling and banging on the door. Finally, when she got inside, Remaro emerged from the basement, sweaty, "soaking wet," and acting "hyper." June asked him what was wrong. Remaro allegedly responded he'd been doing coke.

"Not in my house, you don't," June says she responded.

William, my other source, says Remaro does not do coke at all.

June also said somebody else was in the house, somebody who dashed outside and was not seen.

Remaro Smith continues to be wanted on three outstanding warrants, none of which are for murder, however. When I asked if he was even at the house that night, Remaro's response is "talk to my lawyer."

When I talk to Remaro again--and I have a feeling I will--I will be sure to ask him, "Is it true you sent June Leikas and Anne Marie on a wild goose chase the night Annshalike Hamilton disappeared?"

ADDENDUM: There was another phone call with Remaro, which went about 40 seconds. In the course of that call, Remaro told me the warrants on which he's wanted are "none of your business." When asked, again, for the name of his lawyer he said he was going to "file for harassment."

To which I responded, "You go ahead and file for harassment, Remaro, with your three warrants. As a matter of fact, how about I tell you where I am right now?" In response to this, Remaro hung up.
