Remaro C. Smith, Reportedly One Of The Last To See Annshalike Hamilton Alive, Incarcerated In Illinois For 30 Month Stretch...

IDOC mug shot, therefore public domain,
blog post by John Hoff

This blog has long tracked the doings of Remaro C. Smith, reportedly one of the last people to see murder victim Annshalike Hamilton alive. Click here for previous story in which the mother of Annshalike Hamilton states her belief that Smith murdered her daughter. The murder of Hamilton remains unsolved and there is a reward being offered.

Now word comes that Smith is incarcerated in Illinois, serving a 30 month stretch in Macon County on a charge of "Obstruct Justice/Destroy Evidence."

Oh, my. I wonder what THAT was about? I'll see if I can get more details to share.

Former Mahmood Khan "Murder Property" Demolished, What A Shame Khan Wasn't Inside When It Happened...

Photos, blog post by John Hoff

It happened a couple weeks ago, but the end of such a notorious property can't pass by unremarked. The house and detached garage at 2222 4th St. N. have been demolished.

The hovel in question was owned by notorious North Minneapolis slumlord Mahmood Khan, but now the owner is listed as Hennepin County Forfeited Land. The property became infamous when murder victim Annshalike Hamilton, 15, was found in the garage.

Her murder is still unsolved and there is a reward.

Backhoe Of Doom Parked In Front Of 2222 4th St. N., The "Murder Property" Owned By Mahmoud Khan...

Photo contributed by Hawthorne Hawkman, blog post
by John Hoff

The endless saga of 2222 4th St. N. looks to be coming to an end. As early as 2009, neighbors thought the house would soon be demolished by slumlord Mahmoud Khan (he of the eight units and one smoke detector) fought a court battle to save the property. He lost.

Click here for previous blog coverage.

This is the property where the body of Annshalike Hamilton, 15, was found in the garage. The murder remains unsolved though Hamilton's mother has repeatedly voiced her suspicions about who she believes killed her daughter.

As of today, a backhoe is parked in front of the property.

It is assumed demolition will begin tomorrow.

Not a moment too soon!
And by "moment" I mean, well, YEAR.

Remaro Cordell Smith, Reportedly One Of The Last People To See Annshalike Hamilton Alive, Is Facing Felony Domestic Assault Charges And GUESS WHO IS THE PROSECUTOR?

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

The mother of 15-year-old murder victim Annshalike Hamilton has not held back with her strong opinion about Remaro Cordell Smith, click here for this blog's exclusive story from early February, 2010. And, of course, Remaro hasn't exactly kept himself out of trouble in the last few years. (Hotel room, cough cough, bail bondsman, cough cough, stand off, cough cough)

Now comes word Smith is (God be praised) facing serious domestic violence charges that could get him off the streets for a long time. And, oh my word, there's a special surprise about who is handling the prosecution. That piece of info is nestled in the charging document like a delicious, chewy, carmel-flavored center.

First let me say the charging document (click here) is very interesting because....

Slumlord Mahmoud Khan Loses Court Battle, 2222 4th St. N. To Be Demolished...No, Really, Even Though That's What Some Of Us Thought Back In 2009...

Contributed photos, blog post by John Hoff

As long ago as 2009, there was talk of the house at 222 4th St. N. being demolished IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE. Click here for my blog coverage from 2009.

Obviously the very near future was a long time away. Slumlord Mahmood Khan kept matters tied up in court but finally lost his battle. Councilman Gary Schiff was the one who "broke the story" by posting info on the North Talk Facebook page even though the house is located in Council Member Hofstede's ward.

The rest of the story about this structure is...

"North Minneapolis Crime Watch And Information" Is Now On Facebook...

Photo used under First Amendment Fair Comment and Criticism, blog post by John Hoff

Pictured above, the grave of Annshalike Hamilton, a horrible North Minneapolis murder that really needs to be solved. Seeking a stock photo for this blog post, I decided to use this image to raise consciousness about this "cold case."

Now for some good news...

There is a Facebook page called North Minneapolis Crime Watch and Information. Here is a link, click here, but it won't do you much good unless you're a Facebook user.

The reader demographic which comes to this blog, over and over, would probably really appreciate this Facebook page. In one sense, it will compete with this blog but it's a form of competition I heartily welcome.

Go there and like, like, like!

JNS BLOG EDITORIAL: Mainstream Media Have Ripped Off The Johnny Northside Playbook, But They Haven't Gone Far Enough In The Aftermath Of Nizzel George Murder...

Stock photo, Lisa Marie Presley's swingset at Graceland, blog post by John Hoff

I haven't written anything about the tragic Nizzel George murder until now, because there hasn't been an opportunity until now for this blog to fulfill its usual role.

Consider: Usually, after yet another North Minneapolis murder, this blog digs up information about the criminal backgrounds of the victim's family and, in the case of an adult, the victim himself. This happens as quickly as it can reasonably be done, as soon as names are available, to have the maximum impact on public discourse.

That wasn't necessary this time around. The mainstream media did what this blog usually does. Take, for example, the coverage of...

Anne Marie Leikas, Sister Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton, Is In Prison...

DOC mug shots, therefore public domain, blog post by John Hoff

Anne Marie Leikas, the sister of "cold case" murder victim Annshalike Hamilton and the girlfriend of Remaro C. Smith, is in prison for a crime involving marijuana. She was incarcerated as of February 28, 2011. Here is a link to her information on the State Department of Corrections Offender Locator, click here.

June Leikas, the mother of Annshalike Hamilton, has publicly expressed over and over her specific and reasonable suspicions about Remaro Smith who, as this blog recently reported, has a parole violation hearing soon.

Anne Marie Leikas is expected to be released in June.

JNS BLOG EXCLUSIVE: Probation Violation Hearing For Remaro C. Smith, Named Over And Over In Association With Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton...

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

Remaro C. Smith, who has been repeatedly, emphatically and publicly named by June Leikas as the person she suspects responsible for the death of her daughter, Annshalike Hamilton, whose gruesome murder remains unsolved and pretty much ignored by all media except for this blog, has a parole violation hearing at the end of April...

Smith, who was involved in a tense standoff with police at a hotel room, click here, just can't keep himself out of trouble.

Here's the latest Trouble with a capital "T" for Remaro C. Smith...

11/18/2010 Interim Condition for SMITH, REMARO CORDELL
- Post bond
- Contact with probation
- No alcohol/controlled substance use
- Random testing
- Remain law-abiding
- Make all future court appearances
11/18/2010 Order for Conditional Release (Judicial Officer: Small, Robert M. )
01/31/2011 Probation Violation Hearing (2:00 PM) (Judicial Officer Small, Robert M.)
Result: Held
04/25/2011 Probation Violation Hearing (9:00 AM) (Judicial Officer Small, Robert M.)

Side note from JNS blog: if any reader can find a news article about Smith's standoff at the hotel, please copy all the text and post it in the comments.

Apparently you just can't trust the mainstream media to maintain their articles on the web. After they've published their story and sold their ads they forget about the fact people may need the information months or years later.

Sammie Burch--Linked To Annshalike Hamilton--Makes The "Mugshots" Paper!

Photo and blog post by John Hoff

Regular readers of Johnny Northside Dot Com will remember Sammie Burch as the no-account jailbird who, at one time, was part of the social circle of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton. Defenders of Burch say he had a "big brother" role in Hamilton's life. But Burch is in prison for trying to strangle his pregnant girlfriend, so...well, he's not the kind of "big brother" any girl would want to have, you know?

Though Hamilton's murder remains unsolved, her family believes they know the identity of the murderer, and have not been afraid to name names. Feel free to search this blog under "Annshalike Hamilton" and you will get the most comprehensive and detailed information ANYWHERE.

However, Sammie Burch was...

...in prison at the time Hamilton disappeared, and neither the family nor authorities believe Burch had anything to do with the murder, according to my sources. All the same, when I bought a copy of the "Mug Shots" paper (so my 13-year-old son could do his daily "reading assignment" before getting his precious computer time) I thought it was cool to see Sammy Burch achieving the kind of public notoriety he deserves.

Remaro Smith Arrested For Assault, Kidnapping, High Speed Chase...

Contributed image, blog post by John Hoff

Word came to me a few days ago from June Leikas, the mother of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton, that Remaro C. Smith had been involved in a high speed chase after being--surprisingly--released from jail following charges stemming from an incident where he held off a SWAT team.

As anybody knows who has ever read this blog, heard about this blog, or stood near a computer where this blog sometimes appears: June Leikas believes Remaro C. Smith murdered her daughter.

Smith is, of course, innocent until proven guilty. Smith denies the charges.

Now comes a new development...

Smith is in jail, facing a raft of charges. Here's the recent Hennepin County Jail Roster:

Full Name: SMITH, REMARO .CORDELL

Booking Number: 2010010737

Date of Birth: 1/29/1987

Sheriff's Custody: IN CUSTODY

Housing Location:
Received Date/Time: 4/23/2010.. 19:31

Arrested By: MINNEAPOLIS PD

1/1 FLEEING A PEACE OFFICER IN A MOTOR VEHICLE MINNEAPOLIS PD ARREST AND DETENTION FELONY $0
HWB BY DC 4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/1 ASSAULT-2ND DEGREE-DANGEROUS WEAPON MINNEAPOLIS PD WARRANT FELONY $100,000
BAIL SET BY DC 4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/2 ASSAULT-2ND DEGREE-DANGEROUS WEAPON MINNEAPOLIS PD WARRANT FELONY $0
4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

2/3 KIDNAPPING-TO COMMIT GREAT BODILY HARM/TERRORIZE MINNEAPOLIS PD WARRANT FELONY $0
4/26/2010..13:30 DOWNTOWN Address

His bail appears pretty hefty, but given the pattern so far Johnny Northside has to ask: how long before this guy is on the streets again in another high speed chase?

Some details about the charges were available to friends and/or family, who passed them on to me. The assault charges reportedly involve Ann Marie Leikas, who is Annshalike Hamilton's sister and Remaro's girlfriend. A source has described, in detail, the troubling and abusive relationship between Ann Marie and Remaro, click here. It is unknown, however, who the kidnapping charges involve.

My source says "The very day Remaro got out (of jail) he was beating the hell out of Ann Marie." But Ann Marie had a roommate, and the roommate called the police. This is reportedly what led to the high speed chase. Reports are Smith managed to bail from the car, but police got ahold of the car and wouldn't return it to Ann Marie "until she gave up the guy who was driving it."

And so Remaro is in jail. And the wait for justice continues.

Don't hold your breath.

Best Blog! Twin Cities! Uh huh! (Making Dancing Motions)

Photo and blog post by John Hoff

Before I say anything else, let me just highlight two of the coming stories here on Johnny Northside Dot Com which you will see, hopefully, in the next few days.

1.) Remaro C. Smith got into ANOTHER high speed car chase a few days ago. June Leikas, the mother of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton, (she suspects Remaro killed her daughter) is in a perpetual state of disbelief these days. That story is on its way to readers.

2.) Peter "Pete the Pedophile's" lawsuit against the Jordan Neighborhood Association and Johnny Northside blog (though he never managed to serve me) went really badly for Pete at the April 20 hearing. Details to follow, but here's a quote from the Honorable Judge: "Explain to me why I should not give you sanctions?"

Now, about being named the Twin Cities' best blog in City Pages, click here for article...

I only want to say the whole reason behind this blog is pictured in this post, and he wants to go to MIT and study robots. He wants to make robots to help the world, to become the Bill Gates of robots. When you support or help Johnny Northside Dot Com with financial contributions, (PayPal button, please note) with juicy information (we are SO far behind, apologies) or even writing directly for the blog like Hawthorne Hawkman, (nice City Pages cover story on Pamiko-gate, thanks Hawkman) you support the support system of this cool young man, pictured above.

Oops, gotta go. The cargo won't load ITSELF.

Friends, Family Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton Vent Their Fury At Remaro C. Smith...

Contributed photo, blog post by John Hoff

Friends and family of Annshalike Hamilton have spoken to me in the last couple days, sad and furious that Remaro C. Smith has been released from jail after the little episode of holding off a SWAT team for hours. June Leikas, the mother of Annshalike Hamilton, believes Remaro C. Smith murdered her daughter and has presented the reasons for her suspicions, in detail, exclusively on this blog. Smith is innocent until proven guilty and denies the allegations as "bulls**t."

Johnny Northside Dot Com needs to cut right to the editorial point, here: I am strongly urging police and court officials who may be reading this blog to take quick, urgent steps to place Remaro C. Smith in protective custody, whether Smith wishes to be in protective custody or not. That is all I will say about that, and Johnny Northside will protect his sources. I've done my duty, and if the police do not take heed, it's not on my head.

Yesterday would have been Hamilton's 17th birthday. It would have been her golden birthday, since...

...she was born on April 17. Instead of a birthday party, family members visited her grave, pictured above.

Word came through June Leikas that homicide detectives went to Remaro's court hearing and spoke to Remaro's attorney. But (reportedly) the police have not been able to interview Remaro about the Hamilton homicide.

June Leikas now has words to say to the police, as follows:

"You let him slip through your fingers again. What the hell is going on? Are you paying him or what? Is he some kind of informant that he keeps getting away?"

To this June adds, "How did he get out of (punishment for) a high speed chase. I would have been UNDER the jail. This is CRAZY."

This happens relatively rarely, but it does happen once in a blue moon: Johnny Northside is at a loss for words about this situation.

Family, Friends Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton Feel System Has Let Them Down As Remaro C. Smith Reportedly WALKS OUT OF JAIL...

Remaro C. Smith is innocent until proven guilty.

However, the mother of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton has made it very clear who she suspects in her daughter's death, click here for that story published exclusively on Johnny Northside Dot Com.

When Remaro Smith was captured after a SWAT raid on a hotel room, there was elation among many who had followed the story. It was assumed Smith would be questioned while in custody about the Hamilton murder. Indeed, just yesterday I received an email from a source who had gotten word--from the mother of Annshalike Hamilton--that police had indeed been speaking to Remaro in recent days about the Hamilton case.

However...

...information came out today which devastated the friends and family: Remaro Smith has been released from the Hennepin County Jail after a court hearing this morning.

Here is what the jailhouse roster days about Remaro Smith:
----------------------------------------------
1/1 POSSESS PISTOL/ASSAULT WEAPON-CONVICTION OF A VIOLENT CRIME WITHIN 10YRS HCSO BENCH WARRANT FELONY CASE DISMISSED $50,000
NBR/JAIL 4/15/2010..08:45 DOWNTOWN Address

2/1 FLEEING A PEACE OFFICER IN A MOTOR VEHICLE MINNEAPOLIS PD BENCH WARRANT FELONY SENTENCE COMPLETED $10,000
NBR/JAIL 4/15/2010..08:45 DOWNTOWN Address

3/1 DRUGS - 5TH DEGREE - POSSESS SCHEDULE 1,2,3,4 - NOT SMALL AMOUNT MARIJUANA MINNEAPOLIS PD BENCH WARRANT FELONY SENTENCE COMPLETED $0

NBR/JAIL 4/15/2010..08:45 DOWNTOWN Address
---------------------------------------------

Behold the revolving door of so-called criminal justice.

According to my source, police originally told June Leikas that Smith was talking and cooperating. Word later came that Smith wanted his lawyer and had stopped talking. Family and friends of Annshalike Hamilton are devastated by news that Smith is no longer in the Hennepin County jail and strongly feel "the system has let (them) down."

Johnny Northside blog suspects this information may be incomplete, however. The standoff with SWAT was at a hotel room in another county. I still don't have verifiable confirmation that Smith is actually walking the streets a free man, and I am still looking for that information.

MPD Chief Dolan Reappointment Celebration In Pictures!

Photos and blog post by John Hoff

With MPD Chief Dolan reappointed by a vote of 8-5, I thought it would be a good time to publish the last of my photos from the public hearing as a sort of celebration. Dolan's reappointment is a victory for decent people in North Minneapolis. The fact our crime is dramatically down mattered a lot more to a majority of the council members than the opinions of, for example, self-styled police brutality "activists," at least one of which doesn't even live in Minneapolis.

And you know what? I don't even have hard feelings for the council members who voted against Dolan. Such voting may have been strategic, along the lines of, "Yes, let Dolan be reappointed, but we have to let him know how deeply we feel about the need for continued reform." Thus Dolan passed with just enough votes to make it close...but not TOO close. Funny how that works, huh? There is no doubt reform must continue to move forward. The only disagreement among the folks who testified is whether Dolan was the man to do it. I say Dolan, you the man.

First, in regard to the photo above, it just looks like some chairs with "reserved" placards, right? Oh, but there was a little bit of drama associated with those signs. One of the anti-Dolan camp walked in and right away she was all, like, how come the POLICE get reserved seats? In a really nasty tone, too, the kind of intonation which makes you think, "Does this woman go around ALL DAY using that tone like nails on a chalkboard over the most minor of life's annoyances? Why does my gut feel like this is the case?"

This was early in the meeting, and there were still plenty of places to sit. I had to open my mouth and say something like, "There's plenty of seats. What's your problem?" I mean, it wasn't like there were no spots for the woman and her friends and only THOSE SEATS remained. Besides, Dolan was the subject of the hearing and it makes sense a few seats were reserved for Dolan and his entourage. Which, as it turned out, is exactly where he sat.

This kind of thing was typical of the rabid anti-Dolan crowd: any paper-thin excuse to heap criticism on the police, up to and including Dolan sitting where the city council authorities had reserved a place for him to sit...

In the photo above, an example of the "We Want Dolan" stickers. I hear some of the anti-Dolan crowd grabbed a few of the stickers and modified them with a ballpoint pen to become anti-Dolan stickers. Near the beginning of the meeting, I turned to Dolan and handed him examples of the signs and stickers, saying, "Souvenir, sir." He nodded and said, "Thank you." One commenter at the podium said all the signs and stickers made him think of a DFL convention instead of a public hearing.

Mark my words, the next time Dolan is reappointed (and I predict he will be) the anti-Dolan crowd will go overboard with signs and stickers. If Dolan continues to do a good job (and I predict he will) then pro-Dolan supporters must be ready to "step it up" to meet the challenge.

Deborah Allen didn't support Chief Dolan because he had fired the officer who shot Fong Lee. Of course, all the other anti-Dolan crowd not only supported the firing of the officer, but they were mad because Dolan didn't fire him SOONER and didn't fire him over the Fong Lee killing. Therefore, Allen didn't fit with the pro-Dolan crowd or the anti-Dolan crowd.

In her hands, she holds extensive files. I wasn't clear if the files concerned the firing of the officer, or an incident involving a crime committed against the business Allen used to own, which the officer was investigating. Or, it seemed, some of both. Due to the impending hearing, there wasn't enough time to talk to Allen but she seems to have a very interesting story.

Allen apparently feels the firing of the officer derailed the investigation into what happened at her business and she is unhappy with Dolan for that reason.

The day of the hearing was the same day an article appeared in the Star Tribune, highly critical of Diane Hofstede. It seemed to me Hofstede had a bit of a downcast look, but she attended the hearing and joined Samuels and Johnson in voting for Dolan, talking about what Dolan had done to slash violent crime.

Does that look like the face of a man who thinks he WILL NOT be reappointed? You be the judge.

The group "MADDADS" showed up in force to support Dolan. Here is one of their leaders. I love it when I'm riding a bus and the somebody from the MADDADS group is on board, helping to keep order.

When this woman got up to speak, I braced myself, thinking, "Oh, boy, she's going to say something about cops being mean to homeless people." Instead, she spoke strongly in favor of Dolan, talking about how police under Dolan have been helpful to the homeless. A representative from the Chamber of Commerce also spoke up for Dolan. When you've got the homeless advocates AND the Chamber of Commerce on your side, that's a rare thing.

Here, Tom Cleland and Michael Cavlan pass a note during the proceedings. Cleland was asking Cavlan how to spell "sycophants," a word Cavlan used more than once with his delightful Irish brooooooogue. Cavlan certainly didn't win over any council members with his rant but I sure did get some great video which I intend to post on St. Patrick's Day! (I will also point out Cavlan himself brought up something about Ireland and its "police state," so it's not like I'm going out of my way to mention his brooooooooogue)

Chief Dolan is known to carry his father's revolver. Yes, it's small, but I'm guessing it's a lot more comfortable to haul around all day than a Glock. Small it may be, but would you want to be on its business end?

Why does the council chamber appear to have incandescent lights instead of compact florescent bulbs? Just wondering.

Here is Matt McKinney, the Star Tribune reporter who wrote the execrable "great escape" article about Pete The Pedophile trying--unsuccessfully--to get me served with his gibberish so-called "lawsuit" in council chambers. Speaking to McKinney and reading his article, I took him to be some kind of young and naive intern. I was surprised to find out otherwise. Here's a word of advice to Northsiders: If McKinney calls you, tell him you'll be happy to speak to a DIFFERENT Star Tribune reporter. It appears McKinney is assigned to the "let's bash the police" beat, which is probably related to the "let's bash Northsiders who want to fight crime instead of give trays of brownies to miscreants hanging out all day on the corner" beat.

Here, Dolan and another high-ranking officer stand tall and receive quite a grilling from council members on police reform issues.

I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the points I made at the podium when speaking in favor of Dolan.

1.) Don't just reappoint Dolan, give him the budget he needs to fight crime. Don't go saying, "Oh, crime is way down. Now we can cut the budget." Administrative staff who help disseminate information--such as former MPD employee Katie Schrieber--are very important to the overall effort, and their jobs should not be slashed in the name of penny-pinching.

2.) Hawthorn Crossings strip mall. Big problem. Crackdown on crime needed there. Haywood Eaton lost his life there, but just recently there was another shooting near the SAME EXACT SPOT.

3.) Part of the crime problem includes uncooperative witnesses who will not identify who shot them, but prefer to engage in cycles of retribution. Maybe these uncooperative witnesses need to be hauled before grand juries, bandages and all.

Last words, in the my last 10 seconds at the podium:

Annshalike Hamilton. Murder still unsolved.

Chief Dolan, please get this horrible crime solved.

JNS BLOG SUPER EXCLUSIVE: The Apprehension Of Remaro C. Smith, Bail Bondsman Calls Smith "Little Punk And A Coward" Who Wouldn't "Come In Like A Man."

As regular readers of this blog know, the mother of murder victim Annshalike Hamilton has named Remaro C. Smith as the guy she thinks murdered her daughter, click here for that story. This blog has obsessively followed up on the Annshalike Hamilton murder story in numerous posts, click here for a good example, with a stated goal of keeping the story fresh in the minds of the public until there is justice for this young murdered girl, who was pregnant with a baby she'd intended to name "Kyra Hamilton."

It is a relief to know Remaro C. Smith is in custody on his warrants--including a felony gun warrant--but important to remember Smith is innocent until proven guilty.

A couple days ago, after the State Senate District 58 DFL convention, word came that Remaro Smith had been taken into custody after a standoff with a SWAT team and bail bondsmen. The first Pioneer Press coverage of the story said the standoff was six hours, but a subsequent story on WCCO said four hours. Click here for the WCCO story.

The video above was shot...

...at Good Sports Bar and Grill, as I called June Leikas--the mother of Annshalike Hamilton-- to get her reaction to the apprehension of Remaro Smith. I was rather surprised to learn she didn't know, and was learning of it from my phone call. She was relieved and as happy as one can reasonably be about this awful kind of thing. I should point out it was the "Pioneer Press" and not the "Post Intelligencer" which published the info on its newswire. I had the name of a Seattle newspaper stuck in my head.

Other exclusive information came to JNS blog, as well. The day before Smith was taken into custody, I learned there had been a car chase and somebody who had been listening on an open frequency told me the details. The chase was at about 12:15 PM, and the name "Remaro Cordell Smith" or something like it was mentioned, possibly "Rodell" The chase was along Southbound I-94 from Dowling Avenue North to Highway 55/7th Street. Police lost Smith before he got to Plymouth Avenue and called off the chase.

However, while police had to break off the chase, Remaro's bail bondsmen were still looking and taking things all personal-like. The following email came from bondsman Jeremy Jacobson, and I'm reproducing it exactly as it came to capture the original flavor of the communication:
----------------
Hello, well Mr Smith was nothing but a little punk and a coward. What all stared this was smith threatened a fellow recovery guy in the buisness. I was at Absolute bonding a few years then Lennie came on board at the company, I stepped away to work at couple different bail bond companies. Hes a great guy with a big heart and a hell of a recovery guy, I have no question when him and I are in a house searching it for someone, I do have complete faith in him for our safety. We have done numourous pickups together with a flawless record of getting people all over the Us

Lennie worked real hard on this file, what all came about was Lennie was trying to get smith to come in like a man, Smith decided against that and decided to run on his bail. Well he ended up getting in to a chase, after that Lennie spoke to him, smith decided to make a threat that he was going to shot him well we decided to get a 4 man team together and start hitting places. Lennie later found smith "our defendent" in a hotel room. we went out there and he was yelling at us and the police that the first one threw the door was going to get blasted. he also made a bunch of other dumb threats too. we started that at about 12:30 to 1 am.. Lennie took that threat personal not like a being scared type way, but a giant F U if you think your going to talk to him that way.

If you can please send the info on this murder case I would really like to know more. Thanx
-------

JNS says: Readers, trust me when I say Jacobson has been directed to the appropriate informative JNS blog posts about Remaro Smith. Given what happened in Roseville, I doubt Smith will get bail ever again for the rest of his life.

Currently, the Ramsey County jail roster shows Smith in custody. One additional piece of info can be gleaned from the roster: Smith was born in Chicago.

On a final note, hearing the name "Lennie" can't help but invoke PTSD-like memories of another Lennie who is well known in North Minneapolis. Let me make it clear how THIS Lennie sounds like a great guy in contrast to this OTHER Lennie, who readers know too well, click here.

Mother Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton Denies She Ever Paid Bail For Remaro Smith, Who She Believes Killed Annshalike...

Photo and blog post by John Hoff

This morning I spoke to June Leikas, the mother of Annshalike Hamilton, the 15-year-old pregnant girl whose body was found, frozen, in a slumlord's garage at 2222 4th St. N.

June Leikas and two other friends of the family have made no secret of their belief that Remaro C. Smith--the steady boyfriend of Annshalike's sister, Anne Marie Leikas--was responsible for the murder. These allegations are unproven and, for the record, Remaro denies the allegations as "all a bunch of bullsh***."

Today I asked June Leikas about allegations made via text message on a phone associated with Remaro's brother Jonathon--possibly used by Remaro, Anne Marie, and/or Remaro's brother Jonathon--that June Leikas treated Remaro like a son and, in fact, had paid his bail more than once...

June Leikas denies she paid bail for Remaro, but told me a complex and nuanced version of the facts. Yes, there had been a time when Remaro needed bail. It was not the time when, allegedly, Remaro pulled two guns and pointed the guns at June and her son Mike. No, rather it was before that incident.

Remaro had needed bail and Anne Marie had the money to pay it. However, since Anne Marie didn't have a regular job, she was unable to be the person responsible for posting the bail. So June Leikas said she'd been willing to use Anne Marie's money and bail out Remaro. She believes the charge that time was a gun charge. The tone of June's voice speaks deep regret.

June Leikas went on to describe how Remaro had pulled guns on her and Mike. The day began at about 5:30 in the morning, when June walked into the bedroom shared by Remaro and Anne Marie. June saw her daughter Anne Marie curled into "a fetal position" with Remaro on top of her, "his fists coming down." June said Anne Marie was "just laying there like, OK, do it." June says Anne Marie's behavior is like those of individuals brainwashed by cults and says police have told her "It's going to take years to deprogram Anne Marie." (Compare June's account with that of a family friend who says she witnessed domestic violence by Remaro up close)

It was later that same morning, after the beating of Anne Marie--at about 8:30 in the morning, according to June--when Remaro pulled two guns, pointing one and June and one at Mike. June said she cried out, "Mike, get back, he's got guns on us." A short while later, Remaro ran from the house, presumably to hide the guns because police were coming. But Remaro came back to the house. That's when Mike jumped on Remaro and hit him, taking Remaro down to the ground. When police arrived, they saw Anne Marie hitting Mike with a toaster. June says both Anne Marie and Remaro were taken away and the toaster was taken as evidence.

June spoke of her deep sadness at the death of Annshalike, saying, "I miss her like hell, that was my baby" and said "I want my baby to rest in peace."

Contact with my high-ranking police source shows Anne Marie does not have any warrants as of today. Remaro is known to have three, one for a felony gun charge.

June said she is afraid Anne Marie will stick with Remaro to the bitter end and would even be willing to take a rap for Remaro.

Demolition of 2222 4th St. N. Is On Again, Off Again...

Photo and blog post by John Hoff

Mike Klick, a very active and helpful member of the Hawthorne Neighborhood Council Housing Committee, (on which I also serve) has been keeping track of the fate of 2222 4th St. N.

The house is owned by notorious slumlord Mahmood Khan, and is well known as the address where murder victim Annshalike Hamilton was found in the garage, her body frozen.

Recently, it looked like 2222 4th St. N. was about to meet its fate from The Backhoe Of Doom, since there were "spray paint marks" designating the utilities. For a house about to be demolished, this is like the moment when the executioner shaves the condemned man's head for the electric chair, and asks what he'd like for his last meal. So Mike sent an email to Cheyenne Erickson, a policy aid for...

...Third Ward City Council Member Diane Hofstede. Cheyenne replied in a timely manner (it's a City Hall miracle) and said as follows:
---------
Hello Mike,

This property is about to go out for bid – a process which will take approximately 3 weeks. From there the contractor will have 30 days to complete the demolition.
------

However, shortly after that, Mike was at a 3rd Ware Care Meeting, and found out that Mahmood Khan "filed a district court claim against the city to stop them from demolishing the property."

And so 2222 4th St. N. is still in limbo.

Oh, and as for the murder of Annshalike Hamilton, it's still unsolved but the mother and friends of the family have made no secret of who they think did it, click here.

Documents From The Family Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton, In PDF Form...

Annshalike Hamilton--the 15-year-old pregnant girl who was found murdered in a slumlord's garage in North Minneapolis, her body frozen, the crime still unsolved--had a family. She had friends. And those friends and family have been talking about who they suspect in her death:

Remaro C. Smith, the boyfriend of Annshalike's sister Anne Marie Leikas, who lived under their very roof.

Recently, the family provided me some documents which I summarized in this blog post, click here. I now have the documents in PDF form. Click here for the documents on the Johnny Northside PDF support site.

In summary: arrest record, very impressive, but reportedly not complete. Documents about the alleged raiding of the trust fund of Anthony "Boogie" Leikas, which Annshalike's mother blames on Remaro Smith and her daughter Anne Marie. A document purportedly from a probation officer. And, last but not least, an image of Remaro and Anne Marie.

A high-ranking police source says Remaro C. Smith is wanted on three warrants; one a felony gun warrant and two for misdemeanors.

This small selection of documents is reportedly not all the paperwork which exists in the hands of the family. I am working to get more information.

Documents Fall Into The Hands Of JNS Blog From The Family Of Murder Victim Annshalike Hamilton...

Stock photo by John Hoff, paperwork, blog post by John Hoff

Papers are now in my hands from the family of 15-year-old murder victim Annshalike Hamilton which appear to document, to some degree, the stories told of (alleged) domestic abuse by Remaro Smith against Anne Marie Leikas--the sister of Annshalike Hamilton--and to provide some documentary substance to allegations about a trust fund being fraudulently raided by Anne Marie and Remaro while living under the very roof of June Leikas.

The mother of Annshalike Hamilton told this blog why she believes Remaro Smith murdered her daughter, click here. Other sources have come forward with other pieces of the story, click here and also here. The mother of Annshalike Hamilton believes domestic violence and what appears to be evidence of fraudulent financial activity helps to paint a picture of Remaro Smith and his girlfriend--who is her other daughter, Anne Marie--and June Leikas believes these facts relevant to the unsolved murder of Annshalike Hamilton.

Yes, she took in Remaro Smith. Yes, there were times she treated him well, arguably even like a son. And yes, she now believes this guy who lived under her very roof, ate her food, dated her other daughter...is the killer of Annshalike Hamilton and Hamilton's unborn child, Kyra Hamilton.

There have been some responses from the Remaro Smith camp, but not of a terribly detailed or informative nature, click here for an example, click here for another, click here for another, and click yet again.

Remaro Smith--as I have checked into over again to confirm with my police source, YET AGAIN--is currrently wanted on three warrants, which consist of two misdemeanors and a felony gun warrant. Call 1-888-988-TIPS if you know the whereabouts of Remaro Smith. If Smith himself wants to check the status of his warrants, he can call 612-348-2000. He should have a case number and birthday ready.

It is the position of JNS blog that allegations are merely allegations, I air the allegations but they are not my allegations.

But due to their substantive and detailed nature about an unsolved murder, these allegations are like those made by the mother of Natalie Holloway saying why she believes Joran van der Sloot murdered her daughter in Aruba. There is, however, an incredible class difference between Natalie Holloway speaking to Nancy Grace on the national airwaves, versus June Leikas of North Minneapolis talking to the only media paying attention to the unsolved murder of her 15-year-old daughter Annshalike Hamilton.

Ah, but let's get to those documents, shall we...?

These documents will hit the JNS PDF support site when it is feasible to turn them into PDF images. For now, I would like to share some of the information contained in the documents as fast as possible.

First, there is a photo. I do not know when the photo was taken, but it shows a young man and woman--both very skinny--purportedly Remaro Smith and Anne Marie Hamilton. The image was PRINTED on 2/24/2009 according to an automatic notation on the back of the photo. Remaro is wearing a long, plain white t-shirt and colorful blue pants which say "Corona." He is petting a dog which has its head on his lap, and he is grinning broadly. He has very nice teeth. He is thin, but has muscle tone. A pack of Newports sits in front of him on a glass coffee table.

The woman who is purportedly Anne Marie Leikas embraces Smith with one arm as he gives affection to the dog. She appears very skinny. She is wearing a black hoodie which bears the image of the Disney character Tinkerbell. A yellow Post-It note which came attached to the photo says, "Notice large scar part of eyebrow missing on Anne's left eyebrow from Remaro."

I look closely at Anne Marie's left eyebrow, which would be to my right. Though the photo was taken from 7 to 10 feet away, a flesh-colored gap is indeed visible in Anne Marie's eyebrow.

The home in which the photo was taken doesn't look so bad. There are matching chairs around a table with a flower arrangement, and a live plant sits on the coffee table.

The next document is a printout of a county jailhouse roster, apparently printed August 28, 2009. It shows Remaro Cordell Smith was received by the jail on July 23, 2009, at 02:15 hours. He was arrested by Minneapolis police. He was released from custody on August 25, 2009 at 15:37 hours. His booking number is 2009021484. (Please note: This number DOES NOT MATCH the number on the "identity card image" provided to this blog, the only image I have up to now of Remaro Smith. I am still not clear what the origins are of that image, but it may be some kind of card which gives access to a gym)

The charges listed on the roster are: Fleeing a police officer, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, possess pistol/assault weapon ineligible person, domestic assault misdemeanor intentionally inflicts/attempts to inflict bodily harm on another, drugs 5th degree possess schedule 1,2,3,4--not small amount of marijuana subsequent conviction.

Court dates associated with these charges were all on 9/21/2009 at 9:30, except for the drug charge, which was 9/30/2009 at 9:30, all the court appearances were "downtown." Bail on the fleeing a police officer was $5,000 and $300 on the domestic assault, the others say "0" bail.

The next document is a letter dated 1/23/09 from Krueger Law Firm of Roseville. It is addressed to Mr. Anthony Leikas at 2655 NE Washington Street, which a handwritten notation on the letter points out, saying, "Notice everything was sent to Remaro's moms house (old house)"

The letter concerns "Requested advice on Peachtree contract" and speaks of signing an agreement to give "Settlement Funding, LLC, also known as Peachtree" a large cut of money from a trust fund in exchange for an early cash out. The total in the fund is $38,652.46. Per the proposed agreement, Anthony (or the person purporting to be Anthony, if you accept the story told my June Leikas) would receive "10,449.93, minus the fee of Krueger law firm, in addition to the future payments." The "future payments" appear to consist of $5,000 on March 1, 2011 and $8,000 on March 1, 2015. I strongly suspect this document consists of more pages and all I have is the first page.

Another letter from the same law firm is dated 1/26/2009 and shows that John A. Kindseth of Krueger law firm told Ms. Leslie of Peachtree that "Krueger Law Firm has reviewed your agreement and written a letter to Mr. Leikas advising him on the agreement. I was informed Peachtree would send payment on behalf of Mr. Leikas. Please forward payment at your earliest convenience." The letter, interestingly, bears an "exhibit sticker" with the notation "Exhibit E." It is unknown if this letter was presented as part of litigation, or what the case number may be of the litigation.

Another document is dated January 13, 2009 and consists of a fax from "Brose, Jared" of Symetra Financial. The subject is "Schedule of Benefits and Current Beneficiary for Anthony Leikas, AA752605 Memo." Elsewhere, the document makes clear that AA752605 is the number of the "annuity contract." This fax bears a sticker that says "Exhibit A."

Another document is a "Statutory Short Form Power of Attorney" and purports to show Anthony C. Leikas of 2655 Washington Ave. N. gave power of attorney to Anne Marie Leikas, of that same address, the power of attorney being limited to (check a box) banking transactions. This power of attorney was signed April 2, 2009, by a notary who affirmed the person who appeared before her was none other than Anthony Leikas himself. The notary was Shelly D. Reimer.

Another document--word processed, bearing no letterhead or signature--says, "Dear Annemarie (sic) This is a reminder that on Tuesday, February 16th, you have a meeting with me at Probation Center North (4336 Lyndale Ave. N.) I have you scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Thank you. Michelle Moran." The document also has Moran's phone and fax.

So JNS blog has these documents, but seeks MORE information, MORE documents, more interviews. This blog will not rest until the murderer of Annshalike Hamilton is arrested.
