Mormanism, blog post by John Hoff
Joseph (Lee) Smith, who shares his name with the founder of the Mormon religion and therefore provides me a thin excuse to find something CLOSE to a suitable stock photo, (always a bit of a creative struggle!) is accused of killing Cabrie D. Young, a transplant from Illinois who was on probation at the time of his death.
The jail roster lists Smith's address as...
...and readers of this blog KNOW those two X's were NOT added by JNS blog.
The use of X's in jail roster addresses sometimes happens when an arrestee can only remember (or says he can only remember) part of an address. The jail does not customarily mask addresses of suspects, not even murder suspects.
Smith's birthday is 3/17/1990 and so, despite his incredibly common name, it's possible to pull up his rap sheet from MNCIS and make sure we have the CORRECT Joseph Smith.
Only one charge turns up like that, but it's troubling enough:
In March of this year, Smith pled guilty to "carrying a pistol" and a charge of stealing a firearm was dropped. Smith had a year sentence hanging over his head but served none of it, not a single day.
Of course, if he'd served that sentence he wouldn't have shot somebody dead in July of 2014. Apparently with a DIFFERENT firearm procured somewhere.
