Solar Panels Installed At Bangkok Market, Near Lowry And Lyndale...

Contributed photos, blog post by John Hoff

The Hawthorne Hawkman blog probably broke the news first when Jeff Skrenes tweeted about the solar panels being installed, but these are apparently the first photos shared in the blogosphere. Unknown if the long-awaited, much-anticipated panels are hooked up and working, yet, but HERE THEY ARE.

Also, are those raised gardening beds in the second photo? I tell you, life in the Hawthorne EcoVillage just gets better and better.

Yes, the solar panels are up and running. I'm in Detroit, so I don't have the exact numbers in front of me. However, better tax credits and technology that improved even from the point where we reviewed the project at a committee level have made the "break even point" (where the savings make up for the costs) even better.

And yes, we had a community garden on the site where there were once two arson houses. Because those two lots, even combined, are not buildable, the EcoVillage community garden is a permanent addition to the community.

Nice to see neighborhood businesses take a few extra steps to improve the neighborhood: now if only there were a good Thai restaurant around those parts.
