Pity me, an unshaven, overworked, unpaid blogger who wears his fingers to the bone late into the night while virtually all of my NoMi friends merrily toast the downfall of Larry Maxwell at Broadway Pizza, hurrah hurrrah.
To make matters worse, no matter how much I write about Larry Maxwell, a significant portion of my audience is left unsatisfied: they are scanning the Maxwell information and looking for one thing: WHAT WAS THE ROLE OF JERRY MOORE, FORMER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF JACC?
In closing arguments for the prosecution, yet another little nugget emerged...
Brad Johnson mentioned the role of Jerry Moore and, at that moment, Hawthorne Housing Director Jeff Skrenes ELBOWED me in the ribs as though *I* was the guy deaf in one ear, hissing, "There it is!"
Jerry Moore--said the prosecutor, Brad Johnson--was paid a consulting fee that said "Windows."
"It was a $5,000 consulting fee that had NO WORK done on it!" Johnson said.
There it was, and then Brad Johnson was moving on to something else. Me and Jeff took notes furiously.
The photo above--taken just yesterday--shows 1564 Hillside Ave. N. The windows, as you can see, are nothing special.
For THAT kind of money, I should be seeing stained glass with Baby Jesus in the manager, and Don Samuels playing the part of St. Joseph, and Al Flowers as a donkey.
Being the amazing, true-to-life adventures and (very likely) misadventures of a writer who seeks to take his education, activism and seemingly boundless energy to North Minneapolis, (NoMi) to help with a process of turning a rapidly revitalizing neighborhood into something approaching Urban Utopia. Actually, I took the picture this morning....and according to my count (taken tonight), 1564 Hillside Ave, has THIRTEEN boards on the windows and three boards on the all of the doors, for a total of SIXTEEN BOARDS! AND....If you look through those windows at the top, you can see mold on the ceiling.
THIS HOUSE NEEDS TO BE TORN DOWN!!!! (Sorry Connie)
By the way one of the ways that perpetuates our agony is receiving a 6000 bill from the city for owning a house that is vacant. Ugh! We went through all that last year when they sent us the bill and thought it was straightened out that we don't own the house ... I guess not... next we received a 2600 bill saying that if we don't pay the back taxes the city will take the home through tax forfeiture. More hours I'll spend on the phone this week!
To second poster - I am guessing you are the foster's who own but don't own the house at 1564 - if you have trouble with the city or taxes again, call the 5th ward office at 612-673-2500 and council member Don Samuels, who lives about 5 or 6 doors down from 1564, and his competent staff of Monique and Jose - they will help you get the city and/or county off your back with the bills that you owe but don't really owe. Keep on keepin' on... you have a bunch of northsider's to lean on and in support of your valiant efforts.
Oh cripeys - I don't know where I got that bogus phone number - actually the 5th ward office is 612-673-2205. That's the correct #.
